I think it is best to move on, end their stories and now develop new ones. Joans was a two series take down and Frankie a three series character development, i don't want either to be ruined.”

I would agree with this I was gasping when Ferguson strangled jess and yet was delighted for franky, it would be sad to lose 2 big characters but there stories have been tied up perfectly

I can totally see what you mean. Fenner's story became laughable and I'd hate to see that happen here. I want Joan to be remembered as the badass freak she was, if that means that being the end of her, I'll accept that.

Quick question: Did Bea, Frankie or Will realise the fire had been started because Jess was set alight? Did they realise she was in there in the first place?

The question is where do they go next season now?!

I very much agree too. Ferguson has been brought so far down, it would be farcical to have her anywhere but in a secure institution for the mentally ill. No authority would put her in the same prison to serve time as that in which she was governor so I trust that won't be the storyline. Fabulous as she's been and great as the actress is, it was bordering on pantomime latterly.

As for Frankie, well she could easily reoffend and be sent back inside - she was already showing signs of crumbling at the thought of being released so might not be able to help herself. And let's not forget Jackson knows she confessed to murdering his wife, so he's holding that over her. But, like gilesb, although she is a fantastic character and I'll miss her for that, I feel her story has kind of reached a conclusion ... and I do like a happy ending! So if she features next season, I hope it's only on the outside. Thinking about it, she could well be involved in helping her old prison mates in some way, hopefully not so that she gets caught violating parole.

I think one or all of them suspected but I'm not sure how much evidence investigations into the cause of the fire and the forensic search of the scene will uncover to prove it.

520,000 (4.6%) for the final feature length episode.

Not good at all lucky for channel 5 people are recording or watching on demand to keep it at 1m

To be fair it aired very late.

But Five have been awful for this show. Its better than anything on British TV, If the BBC had this it would be getting 3/4 million viewers an episode.

Anyway spoilers for who is back in Season 4

Spoiler
Bea, Kaz, Boomer, Liz, Doreen, Joan, Will, Maxine, Franky, Bridget and Vera are all confirmed to be back. Fletch has left. While Juicey Lucy lol (love that name) has been upgraded to season regular.

So from this

Spoiler
and going off this promo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlT99VNZAEM

we will be seeing Joan locked up in some shape or form. I read on a Prisoner Cell Block H forum that Franky's main story is how she adjusts to live outside.

I have faith in the producers. They haven't let us down before but like others I think Joan should be left now, they got the length of time right with Jac's, anymore and she would have become a joke. So I hope they know what they are doing with Joan.

Pamela Rabe and Nicole De Silva are in the main cast list for Season 4.

Ferguson won't end up a prisoner, if you break it down there's no concrete evidence that puts her in the frame and anything that can could be put down to her breakdown, the 'stress of the job'. My guess is she'll return but demoted to a basic officer and she'll be at war with the new governor!

For Kelly Bryants story to be taken seriously as evidence she'd have to admit that Jianna didn't kill herself but was murdered by prisoners, would she admit to that? The phone was destroyed in the fire and as we've previously seen Joan has several phones locked in her office, she wouldn't deal with her thug on her regular phone, she's not that stupid! Fletch is still suffering with memory spells so could his testimony be taken as gospel? Joan will easily manipulate her way out of this! All they really have is Vera's testimony, which will mean her demotion but also lets not forget Joan is still blackmailing Channing, if he wants her silence he'll surely pull a few strings, whether he wants to or not.

NEVER underestimate the FREAK

Though as a side note i agree that Joan and Frankies storylines ended this season so perfectly that i could accept that as their final exits.

Fergusons iconic walk of shame as she was led off in handcuffs, dishevelled, wide eyed, exhausted and humiliated as the prisoners she terrorised looked on.

It was the perfect fall from Grace

As a 3 Season arc it was so perfectly orchestrated. It built and built so beautifully and the payoff was incredible.

Emotionally satisfying in every possible way.

I get the feeling the Producers were given unto SEASON 3 as a contract and planned a beginning middle and end for the long arc with the assumption they wouldn't get a fourth season

They tied up all the loose ends (Frankies Parole, Jess the baby killer, Joans downfall) but with just enough wriggle room to warrant a fourth.

I Do think had they been given a fourth earlier on that Joans story could have bubbled along nicely for 4- 5 Seasons with her subtly pulling the strings in the background. Quietly bumping off any problematic people.

But they revved her up to 100 in the last 4 episodes.

Its a shame i LOVED her at the top manipulating everyone. She is probably the best TV villain I've seen.

As a 3 Season arc Wentworth is just about the most perfect TV series I've ever seen. I look forward to the fourth but I'm apprehensive that they won't keep the quality going now such iconic characters have either been taken out of the mix or shifted in their power base.

I wasn't sure about this season at first but the show just keeps getting better and better. Definitely the best thing on TV, shame it's over. Bring on 2016!

I think the producers know how much Franky is loved by viewers so will do everything to make sure the character still has contact with the prison and inmates, not sure how but her law degree could come into play somehow. I agree it wouldn't make sense for her to re-offend and get put back inside especially after her journey this season.

Bridget no doubt gets her job back at WW.

As for Ferguson, anything is possible, she is the best tv villain EVER! Even topping PCBH Joan Ferguson. Hope Pamela Rabe wins stacks of awards, she deserves it.

Frankie could come back as some sort of councilor.

I could literally watch a whole hour of Darth Ferguson strutting around the prison snarling everyone and shouting 'Slot her'

One of the best things on TV at the moment and that finale had me watching open mouthed. I hadn't read any spoilers so I was dreading there was going to be a surprise death of one of the main cast (like Franky or Bea) - thank goodness I was wrong! I was pleased that Franky had a happy end to the finale. I am excited to see what happens in S4!

I reckon Frankie killing Meg Jackson will re surface and Frankie will be back.

What a good three seasons Wentworth Prison has been. I really hope it's not finished. Danielle Cormack and Nicole Da Silva are great actresses. I so hope it's not finished. I thought I'd give it a chance but to be honest, I thought it would be almost the same as Bad Girls. The writers kept it very much like Prisoner Cell Block H, even though it obviously had to be brought into the 21st century.

Pamela Rabe played the 21st century Joan Ferguson great.

But the tape recording can't be used in court so they would need more evidence than just that, doesn't seem to be any.

Tremendous finale! Both me and the missus were getting heart palpitations with all the tension and drama. I have said it before but the writers/directors of many (most? all?) other dramas could watch this as how you do it. The finale especially was pretty much constant tension and the end was almost too much. I don't think I could handle binge watching it as two episodes was more than enough to take in one sitting. The whole series was just great and it was wrapped up so well with all the threads handled really smoothly over time.

I also hope that we see Joan again as Pamela Rabe is surely now one of the great TV villains. I suppose there is a chance they might stretch credulity if she stays (as happened with Fletch this time) but as long as it is not too ridiculous I am on board. I used to watch Prisoner and remember her story got pretty absurd over time but that was a very different show. I could go on for ages about aspects of this show and might try to say more later but for now I will just echo many of the sentiments of others here.

This is simply the best TV show around, and the best for a long time too.

They probably didn't show it at nine because they couldn't. IF any content in both episodes was deemed to be 18 certificate stuff, it would need to be shown after 10pm.

I have watched Wentworth Prison from the very beginning, and have enjoyed the three series so far. This finale, this week was great viewing, so I will be watching the new series when it returns with hopefully quite a few more surprises along the way.

A very meaty and thrilling series, with, well for me anyway, hardly any likeable characters. In fact some of them are appalling, and that is why the fans love them!
