why oh why does it not load videos? its been like this for the last few months and doesnt seem to be getting any better.

My net is around 7-10mbps and i can happily watch 1080p videos on other sites without it even buffing once, so why does youtube not work?

When i say not work i mean if i click on a video it will probably start playing in 360p for the first 1minute if im lucky then bang it doesnt load anymore and just stops, clicking different quality levels doesnt make a difference either.

Im using chrome browser but ive tried I.E and thats exactly the same.

Is everyone else having this problem or just me?

It can go well for ages, then suddenly I get the problem you describe - last night for instance, nothing on TV for me, so watched some old shows on youtube, suddenly stopped in the middle of one episode and couldn't get it to restart. In help, it said to wait for 1/2 hr and retry, but it was already past my bedybyes time, so didn't bother, Haven't got around to checking it today, but I expect it will be fine, for a while............

You must have installed something or have changed something that's stopping you or blocking you accessing the site. Depending on how many programs you have installed recently, you could try doing a system restore back to when you could use YouTube and then checking your browser settings.

I don't know about Chrome but you could reset IE and see what happens (make a note beforehand if you have customised any settings). I have IE9 with YouTube in the Trusted zone on Medium (default), the Internet zone set to High with Active Scripting enabled, and I switch off the ActiveX Filtering if I want to watch YouTube ( via Tools).

Edit: OP, do you have the latest version of Flash Player installed?

nope im not mate, we are actually using my phone and tethering(Three) that to the laptop, we dont really do much on the net apart from surfing, email and a few youtube videos so i didnt bother paying for standalone broadband.

Nobody can say this is the reason im having issues as other video sites work fine...

There's a known issue about Virginmedia connections and YouTube problems - a couple of weeks ago it took me ages to watch a 10 min vlog. Gave up in the end despite watching on my tablet and having 120 meg BB.

Seems to have been a lot better recently though.

It'll just be that Three was slow, the tethering is given a separate capacity limit shared by tethering users, so when the cell site is low on capacity the speeds may suffer. It's likely it just got a bit slow due to heavy usage.

What speed tests do you get when you are tethering. This is probably more for the mobile section, but it sounds unrelated.

Note i said at the start that i can watch HD video content on other sites, just not YouTube
