He was too nice a guy to pull this off, and let's face it, he is not confident around women. I can understand why he did it, by paying his mother off he could have repaired their relationship. Still it seems that this has happened anyway. Let's hope he gets a chance to earn a few bob to at least pay her some of the debt back. I'm glad he's not the sleaze that he was pretending to be, not that I bought it anyway.

For anyone that's interested I've attempted to transcribe the email from Dexter's Assistant that was read out on BBCouchPotatoes:

Quote:
“Okay, where do I start?
Dexter is a well known paparazzi and also owns his own PR company called "Earth Horse PR". Over the years he's been very wealthy, his Mum was also a millionaire too. He had a very bad gambling problem and was pretty much left broke. He had a lot of help from his Mum and also Gamblers Anonymous. Since then he got his life back on track but his Mum was left in huge debt which sadly drifted them apart. He was approached by a very wealthy company who wanted PR in the UK, so Dexter went all out and organised a PR stunt which involved him running up a £121,000 bar tab. He was paid for any press that was published. He auditioned for Big Brother as a sugar daddy millionaire on the strength that if he was to get into the house he would make more money from his client to help pay back his Mum. He was aware of the hate and the boo's he was about to receive and also kind of knew it would backfire on him in some way, so he pre-wrote a book called "The Pretenders" explaining the reasons why he acted as a character that he really wasn't. He has the last chapter yet to write when he gets out of the house. Now, unknown to Dexter the company has pulled the contract from him due to him not living up to the millionaire sugar daddy role. So he will not receive anything from them. The Dexter you see in the house is the real him, he just wants to be loved and make some friends, he really is a lonely person who wants to make his Mum proud and help pay her back. He also doesn't have a girlfriend, she is a client who is part of the PR stunt. He has got quite close to her and recently only dated her twice just before he went into hiding for the house. We spoke a lot about what he was doing before he went in, I personally was against the fake character, but when I realised the show was called "Secrets & Lies" I said "If all else fails the show will be exciting". I know that he's on a massive personal journey and the money to him doesn't matter, the fact that he has been loved so much by the public will mean the world to him. If he made it to the final it would make him a winner regardless of winning the show. He will be happy that his Mum has been in the UK for the past few weeks and she's sticking around to spend time with him and support him when he gets out. I know this sounds crazy and is very confusing, he will most probably lose some fans for lying his way into the house. The real Dexter though wouldn't have gotten in, the fake Dexter did. I just hope people will understand his reasons. He's not a bad person, he's just trying to make a living and make his PR company work. I have supported him the best I can and I have treated his fans the way he would have treated them. I'm not sure when he will reveal all of this, I just know that the last chapter of his book will reveal all.”

Very few secrets were actually revealed during BB13's secrets and lies theme. Basically when we were told about big secrets they turned out to be pathetic or not exist so we were lied to.
I am not interested in the housemates once they have left the house. Dexter can reveal himself as the man from del monte for all I care, not interested.

"Now, unknown to Dexter the company has pulled the contract from him due to him not living up to the millionaire sugar daddy role."

This, to me, is why this all sounds like BS. Either there's a contract or there isn't. Two, or more, parties sign a contract. There has to be a concrete reason to walk away.

The press release also says that, to be concise, Dexter went into BB for the money because the money was really important to him, and also that the money is not important to him. The PA certainly sounds confused. How does he pay a PA if he's penniless and in debt?

Anyway. This is probably the last I'll think about Dexter. I thought he was a prick and nothing I've read here changes that. I'm sure I'll see him in side-stories, floundering up for the air of publicity but it won't last long.

Short version:

- Dexter tried to play up his 'playa' character to improve his image and future earnings
- He didn't have the "minerals" to do it and was exposed as a failure
- He switched to the sympathy angle to try to win
- He failed, so now he's trying even harder to try and come across like a nice guy to rehabilitate his image, saying anything bad he did was just to help out his dear old mummy.

Maybe its because u look for things that arent there

He went into BB to use the media exposure to portray a character with a view to making money off the back of it - not to win BB as he knew a character like that couldnt win

But he realised he didnt want to be that character and so tried to change to just be himself, which was difficult as many HMs and fans had already made up their minds about him

Because he gave up being that character, the PR company dropped the contract - which they had a right to do.

What kind of company could possibly benefit from a guy going on BB and pretending he is a rich tool? And how did the company benefit when he ran up that bar bill? Either that is another lie or Dexter is taking the hand out of a very simple-minded client.

Typical Dexter really - he didn't stick to the plan, tried to be too clever and thought he could pick up the cheque for playing the sugar daddy and win the £100,000 too with his 'boy to man' storyline - failed at both and is left with nothing.

The only thing that is sad is that BB is attracting these types in the first place. Quite a few posts have stated that a winner like Sam means that the show will attract a dull type of HM which will bring the show down, but I don't believe that this is true; I think that more chancer-types will see what Dexter has tried to do (ineptly) and failed at, and try to enter the house with an ulterior motive. It is more likely that we will have a house full of Dex and Gina types rather than a house full of Sam types in the future - that will make many happy, but not me.

Sam was crowned the winner though, so hopefully that says something about they type of HM the majority want to see.

The kind of company that promotes z list celebrity stuff, the kind of company thats promoting a book about being a Pretender

The bar bill was fake - part of getting media coverage

Dexter is part owner of the company - thats the whole point of the PR coverage

Basically, it's the same as I suspected. He went into BB to get publicity for his OWN PR Company and try to get it off the ground. I suspect his 'PA' and 'Girlfriend' were both paid by him for their performances, hopefully his Mum didn't ask for payment for her part in it.

I suppose this would explain why he chose the lowest figure in the task room.

The section about the contract being pulled makes this look suspicious. The PR company can't simply 'pull the contract' because there will be legal consequences if they have signed off on him going into the house for publicity and then whilst he is in there trying to welch on the deal. That will never fly in a court of law and the PR company will get screwed to the wall. I don't believe that any PR company would be stupid enough to try to do that so the whole story starts to look a bit shaky to me.

I don't think we'll see any difference in the types of people in the house. There'll always be liars and fakes in the process. Sometimes, like Aaron and to a lesser extent Dexter, they've been more interesting than their one-dimensional VT. Sometimes, like Becky or Conor, they're even duller.

Dexter broke the contract by not carrying on the Christian Grey persona - thus the PR company pulled out

I expect it was a very loose contract as Dexter could have been kicked out in week 1

Well, that makes more sense. I thought they trying to say he was simply a PR agent trying to get coverage for the company. It made no sense that Dexter changing his gameplan made the company drop him as it has gotten him far more exposure than the sugar daddy thing. Had he continued with that he'd have been out and forgotten very early on. And I couldn't see how the company benefitted from the bar bill story - the company is never mentioned.

Makes sense if you're saying the company would have gotten their recognition at some big book reveal. So it was all about an elaborate prank and the promotion of a book about how to pull off an elaborate prank, then? Gosh, what a waste of a HM.

And this makes even more sense. I think Dexter realised early on the sugar daddy thing wouldn't work in the house and changed tack, going for the 'journey' dross. I'm sure he's as surprised as me that so many fell for that. Is he ever real at all I wonder? As I said, for me, a waste of a HM.

Actually it makes me glad I supported Dexter - at least the real person is the one I liked. Hope he makes money on the back of this and pays his Mum back all that's due and some more.
