Does seem to be much more of a buzz around the x factor this year, people in the office here mostly seem to have watched this weekend, some of whom said they havnt watched for couple of years.purely anecdotal but, you never know could be indicative.

It's a good start for The X Factor after the mess of last year. BBC1 won't have a decent Sunday between 8 to 10pm until January.

Good for CBB... although i've dropped it, can't be dealing with the celeb version anymore, and not so soon after the normal one.

X Factor?? wow..now that is impressive.!

And of the four you name, two failed to engage with the public. It isn't about the magnitude of the names Strictly gets - it's about the quality, and the chemistry with the pro's.

Jill Halfpenny and Alesha Dixon were hardly household names when they won the show, yet became hugely popular. We won't know until several shows in, and characters start to emerge.
I've no idea if he can dance but I suspect Ben Cohen could attract a big following.

Good start to the series for X Factor. Up y-o-y and last night up quite comfortably on the night before. Real test will be next week I think as we'll see if people have taken to the new format and come back in the same numbers.

That's my guess too - judging by some of the pictures to be found of him online ...!

All he needs is a personality to match his physique!

the ratings were delayed

TXF - 8241 + 972
Vera - 4623 + 323
Antiques - 5156
What Remains - 3730
MotD2 - 2714

Dragons - 1774
OUaT - 611k
Film:The Dilemma - 538k (I want those 2 hours back of my life)
Rating of the day must be Andrew Marr's daytime winning 1.3m!

Ratings of the evening are the bumper figures for Countryfile and Antiques Roadshow against what should have been an all conquering pairing of Corrie and TXF Sunday.

Corrie did dismally, TXF only a gnats crochet higher than Saturday. 9.2m feels a bit meh after 8.8m the night before.

Agreed, as soon as I saw the line up I knew we'd get people in here acting likes it's the worst ever and gleefully proclaiming drops, but it's really not that different from Series 8 and 9. yes, last year had a few "big names" but the series turned out kind of flat (and so were the ratings, they where still high but it didn't really grow throughout like other series.) Ultimately it's about the dancing and the personalities not how big the names are, as you say look at Jill Halfpenny, Alesha Dixon and Kara Tointon, the three most popular winners, and I think they've found someone of a similar mould this year in Natalie Gumede.

Great rating for X Factor, I'll probably get sucked back in at one point but I'm still managing to resist. Shame for What Remains, hopefully more have decided to record it and haven't given up on it.

X Factor did quite well last night. I would have guessed it would have nudged 9m without +1.

Because often (possibly always) it'll be written into the contestant's contract that they'll only receive their prize when their episode is shown on TV so by not airing it, even on ITV2 they'll be saving money..
Accounting wise though a broadcaster doesn't account for a programme until they've broadcast it, so even though they've spent the money on it on the books at least they're probably better off not broadcasting it. Also usually any winnings are not paid out until a show is broadcast, so if they don't show it at all they don't have to pay out any of the prizes.
Obviously this must be true as Brekkie just said the same, but I had no idea about that - you'd be fuming surely as a contestant! Is this made abundantly clear to them or is it a small print job?

Imagine you've won a million. "Yeah sorry, show's crap, we're not going to air it. Save your celebrations and I hope you've not started spending already..."
This seems shockingly unfair! What about 'Take Me Out' - do contestants there not get to see their 'prizes' if their episode doesn't get aired?
In other news, most watched prog between 9am and 6.30pm was....

Andrew Marr - 1307
The expected boost from Marr's return following his stroke there.

well up on episode 2 of last year I do believe, so the momentum thing is working.
So far. I'd suggest you avoid reading the majority of the comments on DS's "X Factor goes supersize: is it too much?" article if you want to sleep tonight.

9.9m peak 11.2m inc +1
Higher than every single rating last year bar the final (if you include +1).

Looks like it'll be an upwards trend this year.

Interesting to see 729k tuned in on +1, what could have been on at the same time?

400,000 - about 5% up on Saturday.

didn't the Sunday shows always get massively higher ratings than Saturday? Wasn't that the point of doubling up the audition shows over both weekend nights?

It started at a lower base this year. Later on in the series is when there is usually a huge jump between Saturday & Sunday.

The point was to halt the decline, not only have they done that, but also increased its ratings above last year. Result!

I imagine your a little bit disappointed you can't gloat on another drop in The X Factors ratings, aren't you?
