Though I am sure you're comment is tongue-in-cheek, I would like to clarify the following:
If this is "axing waters" then all soaps are due to be axed across the board as this was still a better figure than the full August average for Emmerdale and EastEnders. I think this was a very good night for ITV across the board. 19:00 - Corrie beat and dented Countryfile which still held up admirably. 20:00 - X Factor added extra viewers from Saturday. Hopefully this will continue, and ITV/XF will have a better year than last. 21:00 - Vera did REALLY well to average close to 5m for a drama which didn't finish until around 11pm. The BBC surely can not wait to have SCD back in their weekend line-up as ITV are currently averaging out as the top prime-time broadcaster in the UK. I have read many of the posts with interest, and can not help to notice that both BBC1 and ITV goes in swings and roundabouts...with no real overall explanation. The EastEnders vs Emmerdale debate was not too long ago the will Corrie ever overtake EastEnders debate not too long ago. This will continue to swap and change. The BBC do not seem to be able to achieve a new light entertainment hit for the weekend - not too long ago, ITV were in exactly the same position. Marriage Ref anyone? Both channels seem to have a similar programming budget at the moment, and both have their share of flops and hits. I for one still say we are very lucky in this country to have a commercial channel and the state funded channel producing such a high level of homegrown drama and entertainment formats. ![]() Lets just remember that Coronation Street is a 50+ year old colossus that at one time next to nothing would have dented let alone a magazine programme that would never have even been scheduled after 6.00 in the past. If any proof were needed that soaps are not what they were, this is it. Its a poor rating for Coronation Street. |

6.13m for the first episode of What Remains, excellent timeshift of 1.65m. Hopefully its decrease in overnights was just due to Vera being on later and boosted by X Factor, and it continues to timeshift well.

Looking at the multichannel, what really impressed me is how well both Endeavour and Mamma Mia have rated whilst be repeated many times before.
On Friday Endeavor (the pilot ep) rated at 816k (3.9%), i think this may have been the 6th or 7th showing. Then Mamma Mia on Friday in ITV2 had 680k (3.3%) for what must be the 10th showing (if not more) then 500k (3.8%) on Sunday afternoon. Another rpt of Lewis on Saturday had 942 (5%) and Foyle's War 1.02 (5.2%) |

Didn't know What Remains had started, will have to catch up on iPlayer, how come it's in the new OBG trailer if it will have aired and finished within a week or two of them first showing it? Isn't it usually used for shows coming soon, rather than already on and started?

I imagine your a little bit disappointed you can't gloat on another drop in The X Factors ratings, aren't you?
After two auditions shows, we have confirmation that last year's slump was not a blip or an aberration - this concretes it in. Quote:

In a rare change-around ITV (inc +1) beat BBC One in all-day share yesterday, by 17.1% to 16.4%, although without +1 it was probably a slight BBC One win. Channel 5 probably beat Channel 4, by 4.5% to 4.4% (There is uncertainty due to rounding after deducting 4Seven on the C4Sales website). BBC Two did quite well with 6.0%. ITV2 had 3.0%.

The most interesting mention I think is that the number 30 show in ITV SD's top 30 on BARB is 1.73 million!
Number 30 did go lower during the Olympics though, 1.66m and 1.68m respectively.

. HD wouldn't have added many, especially as ITN haven't gone HD yet...

That's a great figure for What Remains. Sadly it won't be over 6m again as it already dropped in the overnights for episode 2. It's a good drama that deserves more viewers.
It will be good see in the morning whether Doc Martin can top last years excellent rated opener or similar. Its a drama lacks any negative reasons not to watch. |

TXF is a tired format these days, people going through ups down and bad songs, last night the rating was great in comparison to other shows, but the show is so samey. I won't bore people by listing all the cliches.....I can see why it doesn't hold its viewers year after year, viewers get bored easily and seeing somebody murder a Beyonce song gets repetitive after a while.
Its still the best talent show in britain no other singing show comes close to it. The Voice tried and failed to make a impact they haven't even found a star. |

Wow. Amazing consolidated figures for episode 1 of Under the Dome. Not just for Channel 5 but also for 5USA where the repeats did well above average business with even a late night showing on Saturday scoring a significant rating. You'd have to go back to at least 2002 to find a more successful series premiere for the channel at 10pm.
UNDER THE DOME: UK PREMIERE - THE FINAL TOTALS 2.98m consolidated (Channel 5, Monday 19th August 22:00) inc. +1 547,000 repeat showing #1 (5USA, Tuesday 20th August 21:00) inc. +1 369,000 repeat showing #2 (5USA, Saturday 24th August 23:10) exc. +1 |
