Ramsey's Hotel Hell (Mon 2nd Sept, 10pm)

Many thanks

I prefer lucky dip

It doesn't me. It was easily the best highlights show of the series last night, so nice to see that reflected in the ratings.

Great number.

Agree. Louie's comment about Sophie having Botox was so funny, as was Charlotte calling Bruce a 'tomatoes head.'

The ITV schedule being overloaded with their big hitter dramas this week might have something to do with Doc Martin's decline. Hard to imagine it would be down so much ordinarily, i.e. if Doc was the main event of the week.

On the plus side their average across the week will be that much higher but possibly at the expense of standout figures for individual programmes.

It had funny moments (pretty much anything involving Charlotte), serious moments (Bruce's aggression, nominations) and genuinely moving moments (Lauren and the photograph).

All bases covered really. Just terrific reality television.

2011 - 8.43m (32.4%) / 8.73m (33.6%)
2013 - 7.60m (32.6%) / 7.96m (34.1%)

There was 26 million people watching in the 21:00 hour back in 2011 vs 23.3 million last night, so clearly some difference is to do with that.

If it's any consolation, the share is up on 2011, and with the TV audience being smaller it was bound to be down.

Going by that share, if it got 8.4m, the share would have been about 36%.

Doc Martin does timeshift well, however. The officials should push it to 9m. I don't think it's a bad rating by it's own standards at all - with +1 included its higher than the opening episode in 2009.

How did The Chase do?

Audience booking for presumably a new pilot ITV gameshow 'Amazing Greys'.

http://www.applausestore.com/applaus...?id=2725&bid=1

The show is called AMAZING GREYS and sees young contestants taking on some of the nations most talented golden-oldies for the chance to win thousands of pounds.

One for Daphne Fowler maybe ?

And presented by Philip Schofield no doubt.

The rating is fine, the higher share suggests that more people would have watched had it not been a warm late Summer day yesterday. Two years ago, i think it started late September when the weather was worse that it is now.

And Doc Martin does time-shift well, often 2million+, and no doubt this ep will as with the rest of the series.

Only 2million for the chase. Well beaten by pointless. Thats the risk of having a break, the viewers switch sides and then it's difficult to get the viewers back.

Surprise Surprise in ITV schedule at 7pm from Sunday 15 September.

So Celebrity Chase presumably destined for Saturday Nights. Pre-XF.

However, the risk of not having a break is that the show becomes over-exposed.

See: Deal or No Deal.

Don't worry Samuel, as soon as those viewers realise that The Chase is back on, they'll return in their droves. Pointless will be....well, pointless.

But Deal Or No Deal would've still probably burn out after 6-8 years anyway, even if they'd have had episodes only half the year round rather than the whole year around. Channel4 definately got their money's worth showing it every week of the year to strong ratings for 7 years. Better to do it that way business-wise than showing it only half the year for strong ratings over 8-9 years. DOND, as with any game show, wouldve burnout either way anyway. Might as well pack in as many episodes into the schedule whilst it's popular. BBC seem to do this well with their daytime lineup too, packing in as many episodes of their shows as possible, whether new episodes or repeats to win the ratings.

And Life Stories back on Friday 20th September. Comically stupid scheduling from Channel 4 however on that day: Celebrity Fifteen To One is at 20:00.

That's a bit of a shocker.

I'd imagine it'll grow back to its normal levels soon enough but that's still very very low for its standards.

Did ITV promote the new series at all?

Surprise Surprise held up well against Strictly last year, and so should do well again this year. Should put a dent in Strictly's ratings. The C Chase should get a good lead in from X Factor and hold up well against Strictly - more-so that Stepping Out will.

Indeed early days, and already well up on the Twisters. The celeb editions will also raise its profile further.

Nope. We've seen this situation before, it will grow as did Tipping Point when it began in the 4pm slot earlier this year. Starting from 1.4million to over 2million by the end of its run.

When I had ratings access a while back, the last new series (September 2012) started out with under 2m. It slowly grew as the months passed, and was hitting 3m by November.

Do ITV ever even promote The Chase? Never seen them run an advert for it. People most likely forgot it was on but I think it'll definitely grow back to normal levels eventually.

Richard Osmond [of Poitless] says on twitter he predicts it will take a week for the Chase to get back up to its normal ratings. Mark Labbett [of the Chase] is slightly less positive, predicting two weeks before the chase returns to competing well against pointless in the ratings.
