It's the average that matters.
Don't know what happened there. Probably a lack of a loyal audience - rather than the Strictly clash.
But, there is usually a dip between the first and second show (in this case, the first and second weekend).

That 9.1m peak is without +1 I think. Last week it peaked at 9.7m without +1, so not down over a million.

X Factor may have dropped below 8m if it only got a peak of 9.1m.

Still don't know what went wrong - presumably, the lead-in was pretty poor as Stepping Out must have gotten crushed by Strictly.
As i predicted with X Factor down from last week, it just wasn't a strong enough episode. Tomorrow will be just the same.
That is a good start for "Strictly Come Dancing" at 8.4 million. Didn't think it would go so high. Could be a good year again for the show once it starts properly.
Was "The X Factor" episode not as good as last week then? Its peak is still good. 9.1 is a huge part of the audience these days.

Xfactor averaged below 8million yesterday, down about a million in the averages from last week and down from the rating last years second episode got. This must be a huge concern for ITV that xfactor is already down into the 7s despite all these format changes and major promotion. Itvs whole autumn schedule has looked very shaky over the last 5 days.

It's not going to win back the viewers instantly. As I mentioned, it was bound to drop after the first weekend like it usually always does. It looks worse because it started from a lower base this year.

I think people are overstating the quality of previous casts, this is a typical Strictly cast imo just without a big name to boost it, not that it matters as they normally get voted out very early anyway. It's quite similar to Series 8's cast imo, with a slightly weaker male half, and that of I'm not mistaken was the highest rated series.
Great rating for the launch show, up 0.4m on last year. I see the Daily Mail have decided to stick the boot in, another sign of its success.

Not too bad if you look at it like that but both the average and peak are down from last week. I don't think there'll be a huge rise for tonight either.

In other news, Wife watched the tennis last night and recorded the ITV2 repeat of X-Factor for viewing today.
ITV will count her as a viewer, but very few on here!!
Good ratings for both. Strictly wins round one of the war but only just.
X Factor's Sunday episode was quite badly received last week though so wouldn't be surprised to see a drop there tonight.

X Factor is a 10year old show still getting ratings of about 8million, i'd like to see whether The Voice UK could ever reach that milestone or even produce a potentially successful singer.

Not too good either considering the competition (or lack of it) elsewhere. It will be interesting to see how ratings hold up once Atlantis starts.

The X Factor still did well but it was a cooler night so I thought it would average 9m again.

Are the BBC putting Atlantis across as their new "Merlin"? Merlin usually always went up against X Factor and was still pulling in 5-6m. It'd be good for the BBC to put something up against it that won't get dented.

I'd love for you to find me the 7 in 8.3m.
It did fine. Down a little more than they'd have liked, although the Strictly overlap will have accounted for a bit of that. I suspect we'll see a similar drop tonight too and much excitement in the morning. But if they hadn't made the changes and promoted it we'd be seeing numbers around the 7m mark at this point.

The bit where you said yesterday that it was obvious it was going to be down because a 6th of the show clashed with SCD, which would dent the average, is presumably now being forgotten?

Bringing up the voice is just an easy way for vistas to deflect from xfactors poor rating yesterday. Fact is, even after all these changes, the rating is down year on year from an episode last year which aired against the Paralympics. If its only getting 7.8million now, how is it going to cope when the Scd clashes get longer and it faces harder competition than national lottery? Whole Strictly is still showing excellent form and building audiences in its 11th season, xfactor once again for the third season in a row is experiencing decline. Looks like it will be Scds year once again!
