The pairing of The Cube/Family Fortunes with X Factor didn't seem to hinder it. The demographics are likely to be slightly different between Stepping Out & XF so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

As for Great Night Out, would they really give a late night repeat run for a show they are 100% not going to give another series? They are seemingly only repeating it because they are not completely sure about the decision to axe it. As mentioned, a similar situation to Not Going Out.

I suspect Stepping Out is part of the bigger picture of getting the figures up for X Factor. If it only gets 4m viewers, yet a large proportion of those are viewers who stopped watching X Factor and switched to SCD, then they may be more inclined to watch this series of X Factor.

Dance programmes on commercial TV tend to do quite well anyway, I see no reason why this one won't because ultimately its trash TV and viewers love that in the autumn. It should be on for 4-5m at a minimum, and there is no reason for X Factor to not be hitting 9m over the launch weekend.

Of course it could be un-axed if it got a better reception and a following. It wouldn't be the first such show to be reprieved.

Someone mentioned giving Peter Kay a Saturday night show the other week, and I pooh-poohed it immediately, but thinking about it, Kay could work a treat on Blankety Blank, although he would invite rather too obvious comparisons with the 'leg-end' that was Les.

I dont think that "The Great British Bake Off" would work pitched against itv's "The X Factor". I think a Saturday evening slot would work in Q1. The early part of BBC One's year would be a better place for the show,

I wonder how close to transmission it will air, or whether it will be on a several month delay? In this day and age, broadcasters should be trying to get it on air closest to the US date as possible.

I think it will depend on how ABC air it, is the 'two blocks of 12 episodes' thing just for returning series or will they be doing it with the new ones? It would make things a lot easier for Channel 4 if they did.

For a new show I still think January-May is the best time - gives the broadcaster the chance to see how it goes down in the US and also allows the show to build a little hype through word of mouth etc. Also means they avoid a lengthy gap midway through the first season - returning shows can handle that but for a first run I think you need to keep up the momentum and run back to back, with Jan to May being the compromise of allowing an uninterupted run and the second part of the season to air shortly after US transmission.

Not really sure how this will work for C4 - it's presumably destined for the main channel and might be a bit too geeky for E4, but also not mainstream enough for C4. These sorts of shows are tricky to schedule, and frankly C4 might only have to worry about scheduling eight episodes anyway - though I think it'll probably do well enough in the US to make a full season.
