GeorgeS does have a point though. Kylie is a great signing for The Voice and I'm sure that paired with the earlier slot, the ratings should see a benefit. I look forward to seeing how she gets on. But Kylie is everything that The Voice is supposed to be against. Fundamentally, shes a manufactured brand and can't sing.

I think the premise of the show has always been about experienced industry people coaching amateurs. I think they missed the premise of the show with Danny especially. But Kylie will supply that bit of experience that Jessie wasn't able to do to those who don't necessarily know who Jessie is. I know 25 years ago she was manufactured, but not now.

If so that would be 4 Oct - 27 November. Leaving 3and 4 December, 10 and 11 December and 18 and 19 December for Last Tango if they choose a Tuesday and Wednesday airdate. Could work! Last year the last two episodes of Last Tango aired on the Tuesday and Wednesday before Christmas. Re; airing at 8.30pm. George Gently usually airs at 8.30pm - 10.00pm. So there's no reason why Quirke wouldn't or why GG won't again. Doctor Who is often rated 12 by the BBFC but that doesn't stop BBC1 showing it at 6pm!

Out of interest though, what else have ITV got lined up to air before IAC starts? And what have they got for afterwards? I am aware DA and Bletchley Circle are airing soon but is there anything else of significance? I know Benidorm is due back soon. But will that air in Autumn, Winter or Spring?”

Forgot about MOTD2, the trouble with starting the dramas at 8.30 on Sunday though is that it pushes the Strictly results too early, which is what I believe led to slight dip in ratings last year (the performance shows were up year on year, the results were down quite a bit.) Yes, The Paradise is 8 episodes, it was last series as well.

Can't see them wanting to risk stripping Last Tango across two nights, it worked once last year but there's no guarantee it'd work for a whole series. I take your point about the ratings. as I believe George Gently gets a 15 rating as well. There's certainly a lot to try and fit in, and I'm not sure I trust the BBC schedulers to do it right.

ITV have Breathless as well, which will probably take over from Whitechapel, not really sure what else they have for this year.

Edit: I wouldn't be surprised to see this taking over WDYTYA's slot: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/lat...tish-year.html

Believe it or not it was an hour long special written by a single writer, not two separate episodes stitched together.

With the BBC schedulers I am always suprised when they get the 6 and 10 o'clock news in the right slots.

Masters of Sex is being screened today as well, apparently due w/c 28th September, given that it only airs on the 29th in the US it'll be airing on a week night. Why do I get the feeling Channel 4 will do something completely stupid and air on Fridays after SHIELD? It's either then or Tuesday at 9.

Bit unfair. She might not have a massive range but she is a competent singer. I thought her Abbey Road Sessions album was wonderful.

Also, those who say The Voice is about manufactured artists etc. well I say that's exactly what it is. The winner will ultimately, from scratch, the moment a coach secures them, be created to be a totally artisat to what they started out as in order to be good enough to secure a recording contract. If that isn';t manufactured I don't know what is! What it doesn't have though is a controlling mogul owning their lives afterwards!

It's not a mystery - it's pretty simple. Whitechapel does not have a dedicated/returning audience like the likes of Doc Martin and New Tricks have (even if Doc Martin is slightly down on last series a bit).

It's being beaten by a relatively cheap (but likeable) entertainment show.

Both ITV soaps doing well, rating wise and share wise. EastEnders just isn't getting anywhere, is it?

Not a lot new to get excited about. Only Citizen Khan - I would assume that is moving to prime time, especially with Father Figure showing at 10.35. If they are doing that, I'm very surprised they haven't given series one a repeat run, they could of screened that instead of yet more repeats of Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow or Mrs Brown's Boys. I'd guess Friday nights at 9.30 for it.”

I wonder why they've waited so long to air it.

If the figure is correct, I'm almost certain it is appalling whatever about demographics etc! The reach in the US is clearly phenonemal..and 4 million? Wasn't Splash getting that on ITV?

Ouch that's dreadful. Season 2 started with 8.73 million (I guess that's the official figure).

Yes. There are two Mrs. Browns Boys this Christmas.
Don't tell Icedragon and Samuel that ITV soaps are doing well and EastEnders isn't. They won't believe you.
Citizen Khan may go to Friday nights with Miranda series 3 repeats perhaps?

Yes, it always surprises me how low U.S. ratings are considering the population size. Even American Idol only peaked at like 30-odd million which is only 10-15% of the population.

Whatever I might think about TXF, it's not evil and DW is a totally different show.
TV has done reasonably well, but certainly hasn't hit the heights BBC One expected of it. . However, compared with some BBC LE shows, this is like the World Cup final and the BBC shouldn't be too worried. 7 million is still very respectable and maybe Kylie should add an extra million in January.

In British terms this would equate to 6 million. American audiences are very fragmented as they have so much choice, though the same could be said of Britain now. If Coronation St had 8 million viewers in the eighties, then it would have been written off as dying and had been axed, now this is a very respectable audience.

Have I got this right, that one Glenn in this thread is mad for ITV and another Glenn made for the BBC? Confusing

Miranda series 3 is surely too recent? I can still remember the punchlines. Maybe Gavin & Stacey? Can't remember series one and two of G&S ever being repeated on BBC One.

He he.

I was at a Q&A with Steven Moffat a few weeks back, and I was far from the craziest one there.

(And I'd love to say Dr Who has the most mental fanbase, but sadly Big Brother has had that crown for some time. )

Horrific looking fall for Hayley Turner on Channel 4 Racing / At The Races, as her horse Seal Of Approval clipped heels with another horse.

Still surprising considering their population is 4 or 5 times that of the UK.
