It's probably worth pointing out how successful X Factor contestants over here were in it's first three series. More than the USA so far I would assume.

I'm actually surprised Danny Cohen didn't notice how bad Lorraine Newman was at her role of EP. It seems strange that virtually as the new controller started then the current EP resigns? Did she resign of her own free will or was she persuaded to resign? Either way, part of me believes that the damage is irreversible.

Do you reckon EE is heading towards its conclusion? All the hype this week and it's struggled to get past 7 million and Emmerdale.

What are the provisional schedules for Saturday 28th September saying at the moment? Is SCD scheduled for about 7-8.30pm?

I think one thing that stands out on "EastEnders" is the quality of some of the actors. And to be honest if some of them were say cast in another drama show of their own id find them interesting to watch. Jessie Wallace is particularly good at making you believe in her character and changes. Samantha Womack is also very good at making an unlikable character sympathic. Kierston Waring is underwritten for. Jake Wood is consistantly good and Micheal French is also a very watchable actor. They certainly have the talent on the acting side of "EastEnders" if not the consistancy of plot and writing.

Id like to see a "Play for Today" with all five in a different domestic setting.

It may be damaged but no, whether you like the show or not it's got many years ahead of it. It will defiantly still be here long after I'm gone.

It's had a year of no drama what so ever. The only good thing that come out of that is a lot of the characters are in really good shape now to move forward. Cat now seems like her old self again.

Newman simply tied up loose ends and placed the show into a position to be re built. She did the foundation work. But it's not her fault it got the place it is, that's the BBC's fault for letting it happen.

wizzywick I think Danny Cohen came across as out of touch on the EE issue. He always used to dodge the question when asked. The channel under him seemed to take it for granted.

But EE can and will be fixed. I am 100% sure of it.

As I said above. It will probably take months if not years for this to happen. Corrie a few years back was in a bad shape and now it just performs incredibly getting 8-9m viewers.

What I think is important is that we look long term when talking about EE and soap ratings in general. We shouldn't really get to worried over abnormally low ratings or to excited over high ones. It's consistency that wins the game in the end. Remember also we are only looking at Overnights.

Anyway I'm going to start repeating myself at this rate!

Well then BBC1 will just have to scrap it and replace with one of the hundreds of other shows that are capable of getting 6 - 7 million viewers three times a week, won't they?

Looks like it's Pointless which'll end up winning the 'teatime ratings battle' for now. I wonder why The Chase isn't doing as well, though. They were practically neck-and-neck earlier this year.


Why do they persist with this show? It's a dead horse.

Repeats of YBF outrate a new edition of The Big Reunion... awkward. Celebrity Juice up on last week at least.

My thought is I'm inclined to agree about an additional civilian series, beginning in January (pre or post celebrity series). As a fan, I don't know if this would be a good thing, as it would amount to a total of 6 months civilian series and 6 weeks celebrity series per year. I think that would be too much, even as an avid fan.

I do wonder how a 'winter' civilian series, immediately following a January celebrity series, would do though.

It does take a few weeks for people to return to their normal habits, and a bit of bad weather to go hand-in-hand. Come October they will be neck-and-neck.

What I would like to say is a big THANK YOU for your hard work, ratings on the rating thread! It's better than some speculation and fantasy stuff. Thank you for your hard work.

The Ratings Thread patted ITV's back for removing Chase from the schedules for a few weeks, and criticised the BBC for only giving Pointless a two-week break, but it looks as though this Thread patted the wrong back.

Thanks a lot. This is absolutely marvellous scheduling from the BBC. Last year, SCD was starting at 6.30pm which itself was later than most of the previous series. Now it looks like the BBC are taking it even more into prime time by starting it at 7pm and ending at 8.25pm. It means there's pretty much no way that XFactor can avoid it so SCD is automatically going to win the PR and ratings war because viewers will stick with SCD during the overlaps. XFactor will be significantly dented for its first 25mins, just like last weekend, and its average will therefore be lower than usual. Looks like this year, BBC are giving SCD even more prime time slots and thats gonna help its ratings and give it the best chance possible to consistently beat XF. Itv are in a no win situation: either start XF at 8pm but it will overlap with SCD for 25mins and dent the average OR start XF at 8.25pm to avoid SCD but it will finish very late and the last 30mins will drop in the ratings due to the late finish. Either way, BBC1 has got it spot on.

What time is Atlantis by the way??
