Surprise, Surprise takes the pre-XF slot on a Sunday for 10 weeks so it can't go there. Could go on Saturdays pre-XF instead when the live shows start.

Dom Joly says a new series of Fool Britannia starts on Saturday 5th October. This is going to get a very small audience for Itv in the pre XF slot and give Strictly a huge push and dominance in the 6-8pm slot.

It smacks of ITV 2 in the noughties, getting Z listers to do mundane tasks and probably start moaning and bitching all the time. This concept is very noughties and I'm surprised Channel 5 considered this, as without CBB, it will drop.
Actually not bad for CBB, but I think the second series is resembling overkill and one a year is enough.

You say that but it could be...

6.15pm - Fool Britannia
6.45pm - Catchphrase
7.30pm - The X Factor (or 8.30pm on ITV+1!)
9.30pm - The Jonathan Ross Show

Whatever it is, I doubt Fool Britannia will get the slot immediately before X Factor which will probably go to Catchphrase or Celebrity Chase.

I do think it's excessive having two celebrity series a year. They'd be better off extending the civilian series if they wanted to get more out of the show during the summer.

I'm thinking it could be...

5:45pm - Fool Britannia
6:15pm - Celebrity Chase
7:15pm - Catchphrase
8:00pm - The X Factor
10:00pm - The Jonathan Ross Show

Could lead to a strong night for ITV if that's what they go with.

And the ratings for the summer celeb series now support that.

Rather than more Big Brother though what C5 should be looking at is the ratings BOTS still manages to provide them consistently at 11pm throughout the series - and look towards doing something at that time which could do that outside of Big Brother.

For the 12th October anyway. You could swap around Fool Britannia and Celebrity Chase. They've filmed a series of the latter so it's going to have to go in somewhere. Catchphrase starts filming today but there's a possibility it could slot in this autumn.”

If they have that, I think it would be better to have Fool Britannia first.

I would think that could hold up well against Strictly, more-so than TMO which only attracts the younger viewers. Celeb Chase and Catchphrase would attract all ages.

They damaged Take Me Out by putting that against Strictly.

Catchphrase & Celebrity Chase should hold up fine (like TV Burp) against Strictly, and provide a good inheritance for X Factor when the live shows begin.

I think this is what ITV should do. Fool Britannia isn't a strong enough show to anchor their night, and the other two are much stronger shows so it'd be better to pair them up.

ITV though really need to invest to find a new format that can dent SCD. Obviously Take Me Out wasn't it, and I don't think Celeb Chase can do any better really. Saturday Night Takeaway could do a job against it but its needed elsewhere in the schedule.

Their attempt to spoil it rather than schedule against it with Stepping Out this year was daft. It needs to be something other than a talent show and a quiz. I don't know what, I keep going back to a reworked Gladiators (with Total Wipeout elements). Obviously it would have to involve celebs

How about a new family comedy format? We saw how well TV Burp did in the past. That's obviously not coming back, but it'd be good for ITV to do a similar show.

About a reworked Gladiators - someone mentioned a while back that it would probably be promoted as the show of the night, rather than something to provide inheritance for another.

They need to find a format that rates well against Strictly first (which I think Catchphrase can do, a game that you can play along with) and if it dents Strictly in the process then its a bonus. However Strictly is a fun format which is made very well, it would be incredibly difficult to dent it. I think it will outlast both BGT and TXF.

Ratings are up

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/news/...channel-5.html

Elton John did very poor 2.41m. Big School 2.93m. Mrs Brown 3.61m.

Everything looks low.

Big School has finally found its level.

ITV's all day share must have been helped by a strong Emmerdale & Corrie.

It would be better just having the ten week summer series and the three week CBB in January. However, I think Channel 5 should really have this as their only reality show, as they managed quite well without the genre for six years, as Celebrity Spa and Celebrity Wedding Planner are so noughties and shows about people like Amy Childs rightly stiffed.
The big error for Channel 5 was losing their Europa League contract. OK I don't do football, but a final with Chelsea in could have gained them their highest audience ever. I think when the rights come up again next year, they should bid.

Or could not. A celebrity version of a show currently struggling to regain momentum after an extended break, some Sunday filler, and a chat show which got ratings probably meriting cancellation in it's last series. Not seeing much joy for ITV there at all.

Oh dear. Wasn't this the first of a series of "Audience With...."-type shows featuring pop stars?

No the first Brit Icon Awards. Not a series, only an annual event I believe.

Something different from the Pointless Celebs, and Strictly combo each year, every year

Nope. It was probably first in the series of "BRITs Icons" shows.

Ratings for Big School so far:

Episode 1: 4.24m (20.6%) --> consolidated to 5.28m
Episode 2: 3.63m (17.4%) --> consolidated to 4.50m
Episode 3: 3.02m (14%) ----> consolidated to 3.68m (squeezing into the top 30)
Episode 4: 2.89m (12.7%)
Episode 5: 2.93m (13.9%)

As mentioned, it should be doing better.

It's the demos that presumably keep Jonathan Ross going, but the overall figures are pretty disappointing.

It would be something different though.
