So much buzz about Celebrity Big Brother tonight. My Facebook and Twitter have gone into overdrive. A good mix of characters, probably the best of the C5 celebrity series.

Watching law and order uk tonight, making me miss the bill, is there room for a new cop procedure show??? Since the axing of waking the dead aswell, bbc1 used to be swarming with them, reliable ratings bankers aswell, I know there came a point when bbc were probably looking for anything but law, but now I think they could do with some more.

So in a nutshell, I think they've done well. Nobody walks away impressed with the lineup but they can see where the drama and excitement that goes with any good series of Big Brother might come from. Job done. |

Not the best lineup they've had in terms of names but a good mix of characters definitely which should make for an entertaining series. Considering they are doing two series a year, so upwards of 26 people signed up, they aren't doing badly considering this is now their fifth series. And in any case, big names don't equal big ratings if they are bores. Look at the money they wasted on Pamela Anderson going in as a house guest during the civilian run, she was so uninteresting the numbers were actually lower than average during her stay.
So in a nutshell, I think they've done well. Nobody walks away impressed with the lineup but they can see where the drama and excitement that goes with any good series of Big Brother might come from. Job done. The main series is a solid ratings banker for Channel 5 but if we're being honest, the 3 they've aired have been quite hit and miss and in terms of attracting a big audience, its a complete non-starter. But they consistently get the casting right for CBB and get people talking. Tonights mix may not be the biggest names, but they're well known enough and big personalities. If Louie Spence, Carol McGiffin, Charlotte from Geordie Shore and Lauren Harries aren't enough to produce some absolute car crash and trash TV at its best over the next few weeks, then theres no hope really. |

Still don't think CBB will break 3 million. Seemed well received on twitter- doesn't mean the ratings will be any good however as we have seen before. Think it will get a bit higher than CBB10 maybe 2.7-2.8m

I wouldn't be that surprised if the CBB launch rates lower than last year. BB started with 2.1m which shocked me at the time, and in contrast I was surprised by how high CBB rated in January, so I don't go in with any expectations now. The fact that BB went on to rate better than usual could be a positive and it could also be a negative. I just don't know. |

So in a nutshell, I think they've done well. Nobody walks away impressed with the lineup but they can see where the drama and excitement that goes with any good series of Big Brother might come from. Job done. It's a long standing issue with Celeb BB that they seem to forget it only runs 3 weeks but put almost as many people in it as a regular series - had they dropped these nobodies the overall perception of the line up would be so much better, even if it is "reality" top heavy. The magic of CBB is it used to feature people who wouldn't normally be filmed as themselves - nowadays it seems to be dominated by people famous for being filmed as themselves. As for the big name issue - completely agree it's often not the big names who make a series but I would suspect it's the big names that can pull people into a series. I'm just not sure they have anyone to do that this year - perhaps Abz at a push maybe as he had that kind of role on Big Reunion. In a way what Big Brother needs is this series to flop and for C5 to realise they'd be better off just extending the main summer series an extra 3 weeks, which would have only required them to have an extra couple of HMs. I guess 1.6m is the low end of that benchmark this year (that's not taking into account the cost of casting celeb BB - after all they'll have to replace the bottom of that barrel!). 2m probably should be the target for nightly shows - but I would say considering with BB on C5 we're usually talking about margins of 100,000 or so that for every 100,000 viewers an extended regular series would get less than a summer CBB they could probably make back in CBB in January due to it being more of a novelty when it airs once a year than twice in the space of five months. |

Another 1-sided football game tonight, so next Tuesday ITV1 have the second leg of Arsenal vs Fenerbahce (3-0), whilst ITV4 next Thursday have Spurs vs Tbilisi (5-0).
Just the way these things go. |

No competition for CBB however- BBC One will win the slot obviously but I think CBB will come 2nd.

It's a poor line up dragged down significantly by two people who have no media profile at all in the UK - and two people that they didn't really need numbers wise at all.

Channel 5 do now seem to have their eye on the ball with Big Brother and made many changes to this years regular series, and one of the main criticisms is that CBB shouldn't air twice yearly. They're locked into a contract until next year for the programme, but if its renewed beyond that then I can see either the regular or summer celebrity series being dropped, and my money would go on the summer celebrity series. Next year though, perhaps they should bring the regular series forward to start in April or May, enabling a good month or so between the regular and celebrity series. |

We'll see in the morning. CBB could do really well but I expect not. 2.5-2.7 million is a relative success especially considering with people from GS and TOWIE it is a advertisers paradise so many 16-24s

And was that overnight figure which Samuel pointed out actually wrong? I was going off DS so...
No surprise that DS didn't revisit their report when the correct figures came out. |

Jay Hunt must be close to getting sacked right? Where was a gun when you needed it?

Jay Hunt's interview isn't very challenging. The inclusion of E4 into her arguement bizarre. But she doesn't seem too worried that nobody is watching her channel. "The Mill" was indeed a success for Hunt but there hasn't been alot of other hits since she joined. I think she is out of her depth and it shows in that small clip. She shifts uncomfortably in her chair during the question.

Job done. The launch night last night has drawn me in, but they could have done with one or two more bigish names. The cast is a bit too top heavy with 'constructed reality' stars this year, but I guess that's popular with young people these days...not with me though...and one or two of them may as well have gone on the regular Big Brother, as I'd never heard of them before, like that blonde American girl. Still, I think it will have done well last night and I think viewers will have been hooked in. My prediction is 2.5-2.8m, I don't think it will have quite reached the 3 million mark for the launch last night. |

Was always going to be lower than January, but a strong percentage for a two hour broadcast so I think Channel 5 will be happy. As shown by this years Big Brother, a low launch does not mean that we won't get a higher average than last years summer CBB.
