That's what you get for airing a fifth series since August 2011. It's overkill is becoming worse than The X Factor.

Good. What an awful line up of reality tv stars especially that girl from geordie shore.

Yep, in the end, I've got to accept the show isn't being made for me, but it really was a depressing watch.

The fact that girl was cheered as well, just unbelievable.

2.7m is not a bad result at all for CBB. You can only compare it to last year's summer edition which netted 2.7m WITH +1, so overall, it will be up. After 9 weeks of civilian Big Brother, a launch show getting 2.7m is a very good result.

No, you can only compare it to the last summer series which didn't come in the middle of a post-Olympics uprising against reality television, i.e. Summer 2011, when it launched with 5.16m.

Comparing it to that year is a bit skewed because CBB aired before the regular series and it was the first episode on Channel 5. BB on Channel 5 has never been over 5m (or 4m for that matter) since that episode, so the big drop in viewers isn't to do with the amount of times it airs per year.

2.7m is an OK result for it, but as I said last night the summer CBB tends to make up its viewers in officials rather than in overnights.

Going into production during Spring 2014 - so Scott & Bailey being held back until Autumn 2014. So three dramas we already know for this time next year: Downton Abbey (99.9% likely), Broadchurch and Scott & Bailey.

Contestant in reality tv contest = civilian,
Winner of reality tv contest = celebrity.

2.7 million average for 2 hours is a great result for Channel 5.

.”

What should we compare it with then? Channel 4 never aired a Summer series of CBB so there is nothing to compare last night to in terms of external factors.

Are you serious? You CANNOT compare ANY BB launch against that- it was a highly inflated figure filled with a lot of curious, non-returning viewers because it was the inaugural episode of Big Brother on Channel 5.

And I'm not accepting 'post-Olympics uprising' as an excuse. The Olympics may dent programming DURING the Olympics, but you cannot conclusively prove that it had any affect on ratings after it finished. The Olympics deflated BB13 viewing figures to around 1.1m. Celebrity Big Brother 10 rated close to 2m, if not over, every night. I hardly see that as 'affected by post-Olympics uprising against reality television'.

I suspect any delay may be as much to do with Sally Wainwright as with anything else: she has two shows in production with the BBC and doubtless other shows in development as well ... there is a limit to what she can do - hence Amelia Bullmore writing half the next series.

I fail to see any good reason why it shouldn't be compared to last year. If you're going to use any external factors for year on year comparisons then that makes the entire discussion aspect of this thread redundant. It did well for Channel 5 and it was in line with last year, there isn't really much more to add and certainly doesn't warrant pages of arguing the toss.

Emmerdale looks lower than usual, it hasn't fallen below 6m for a while.

Soaps must have been dented by the football.

Meanwhile...

"Tom Hardy's documentary Poaching Wars interested 1.23m (5.9%) at 9pm."

Yikes!

That's not a bad figure, but the trouble is considering the line up was absolutely terrible two I've never even heard of. I can only see it falling.
