Re the Steve Williams "not going to beat Countryfile" statement. It is an unbelievable turn around in viewing habits and the structure of tv that there would be any suggestion that Surprise Surprise would struggle with a format like Countryfile.
If Countryfile had been scheduled against SS in the eighties it would have been: SS 15 million Countryfile 8 million. The potential audience for a show like Countryfile has probably not changed all that much over time but the LE audience has flung itself to many other pursuits/viewing. The only way Countryfile would have found itself in primetime in the eighties would have been on BBC2. |

I'd say even higher than that, the final got 7.32m last year and it's already getting close to beating that.

That is huge. What a marvellous piece of scheduling it was on the first day of the new term for most schools in England. But as reflected in these 7 day numbers, a show that can benefit greatly from word of mouth.

8.65 million for New Tricks. Great stuff, as always, although I did expect the consolidation to be slightly higher than that (here it seems to have been about 1.27 million, when in recent weeks it's been closer to 1.4) - then again, the past 2 episodes haven't been made available on iPlayer in some regions on TV, including where I live.

Coronation Street
Sunday 8.09million (inc+1 8.55million) Monday 9.25million (inc+1 9.47million) 9.37million (inc+1 9.64million) Wednesday 8.92million (inc+1 9.34million) EastEnders 7.82million 7.64million 7.60million 6.70million Whitechapel - 5.54million (inc+1) Through The Keyhole (roughly) 5.04million (inc+1) Vera (roughly) 6.5million (inc+1) Although Whitechapel has time shifted 1.5million, I believe this will be the final series, unless ratings begin to rise, which is unlikely. |

Well worth posting the first set of figures for BT's Aviva Premiership rugby union coverage in here. Because the improvement on what ESPN got for the same games is very noteworthy! Indeed I am impressed by what I'm seeing.
BT Sport - Gameday 1 2013/14 Season AVIVA PREMIERSHIP RUG (SATURDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER 2013 1614) 116,000 AVIVA PREMIERSHIP RUG (SATURDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER 2013 1300) 82,000 ESPN - Gameday 1 2012/13 Season LIVE: AVIVA PREMIERSHIP RUGBY (SATURDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER 2012 1330) 37,000 LIVE: AVIVA PREMIERSHIP RUGBY (SATURDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER 2012 1610) 21,000 So the 2pm game was 122% up despite a longer intro. The 4.30pm game meanwhile was up an incredible 452%. ![]() Also from that game week last year, but on Sky Sports: LIVE PREMIERSHIP RUGBY UNION (SUNDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER 2012 1430) 92,000 Meanwhile back in the present day BT's equivalent game on the Sunday managed: AVIVA PREMIERSHIP RUGBY (SUNDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER 2013 1300) 75,000 So BT comes out very favourably here in a comparison with Sky. Particularly as BT's programme had more padding as the programme was an entire hour longer than Sky's equivalent programme. Had they been the same length, BT could well have equalled or even bettered Sky's figures. In summary it seems as though securing exclusive Aviva premiership rights was a very savvy move indeed from BT's point-of-view. |

ITV Ratings: Surprise Surprise series 2 launches with 5.3m, peaking with 6m. Vera was watched by 5m, highest rating drama of the night.
Nice numbers there, especially for Surprise Surprise. 4.3m (17.9%) for What Remains. Vera was 4.91m (23.5%) tapechecked. Quote:

Just two weeks to wait Samuel! Exciting isn't it?
![]() Quote:
The X Factor seems to have stabilised - of course it's two weeks to early to know how the season as a whole will fair but nevertheless it seems fair to put the idea of the 20% year-on-year declines back in the draw.

Emma Willis looks like shes having a brilliant year. She is on "This Morning" instead of Holly!.
Holly was off because she has had minor surgery to resolve the problem that has caused her voice to be rather gruff since she and Phil returned from the summer break. Holly is due back on Wednesday. As for The Indian Doctor the BBC site says the new 3 parter will be on i player soon (after Thursday's screening on BBC 1 Wales presumably). If that means everywhere and not just Wales then it will predate any daytime BBC 1 (non Wales) screening by some time I presume if it is not yet scheduled. |

1 THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF (TUE 2001) 7.17 When you look at these ratings, Bake Off seems so out of place, a 4m+ chasm between the first and second most popular show on the network. 2 UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE (MON 2001) 2.87 BBC One execs must surely be salivating at the potential prospect of this switching channel and going out at 8pm on Sundays next time around. |
