No, Im just saying the truth that Coro St boosts ratings for shows after it, even the flop ones like The Peoples Medal. Just see this in effect in a few weeks time when Whitechapel returns. This was averaging 6million in a Monday night slot after Coro St last year. Now lets see how it rates on a Wednesday night after a 3-4.5million rating game show, I bet you a £100 it doesnt get 6million again. Which will prove the impact that the Coro St lead-in can have.

If so, I'm not too sure about Stepping Out as an X Factor lead-in, but it does face Pointless Celebrities, I Love My Country and 10 minutes of Break the Safe, so it should get a nice launch audience. As for X Factor, virtually anything can happen. I cannot see Break the Safe denting it though.

New entertainment format 'Big Star Little Star' is Wednesdays at 8pm. Pat & Cabbage Thursdays 8.30pm.

4million in the summer for a new cheap pre-recorded game show, which has a lead in of just 2.5-3m, is a success in my books. It did get over 4million the other week in hot weather.

Wow - didn't think the Big Brother final was a big enough event for an untimely new ratings thread. And the ratings show it isn't - 1.7m for the final is pathetic considering some regular episodes have hit that - and considering C5's point of view has been it's about the casual viewer rather than the loyal viewer the finale ratings show there are virtually no casual viewers around - the show is just no longer in the public consciousness.

No episode of Break The Safe has hit 4m in the overnights. It is doing fairly well, but you'd expect it to under the National Lottery banner.

Funny how 9m watching the X Factr is nobody. And funny how even 3rd place runners up seem to be able to sell 29m records and launch their own movie this very day.

I doubt some lottery format will trouble it. It might attract a few oldies and anti-itv'ers who usually hang out on the guardian website but that about it.

And of course despite losing80% of its audience Big Brother is still a raging success......apparently. Of course it seems to attract more than its fair share of racists and thugs as contestants but that's just coincidence I'm sure

Through the Keyhole looks suspiciously early to me for the sort of show it is going to be [lots of swearing, rude humour]. I got a feeling this schedule could change lots by tomorrows confirmation, it might be like that to trick the bbc schedulers.

Ref: Pat and Cabbage being half an hour not an hour like Great Night Out...the repeats of GNO are on because ITV are considering rejigging thast show's characters into a 30 minute comedy slot. So they seem to have seen the problem.

Crumbs. I'm going to have to upgrade its performance in that case if a show that according to you is no longer in the public's consciousness managed to improve on a channel's typical performance by about 150% across four hours, launching a new show successfully in the process. If anything I'm more impressed than I was earlier.

Interesting take anyway, and we of course enjoy reading your many tweets on the subject. I think an uplift of 600,000 for BB and 1.1m for celeb is a plenty big enough uplift for the final to be honest. It would be most unrealistic to expect much more than that. Last year was embarrassing as it only delivered 1.5m but it had valid excuses. It's come on for that as expected and done the business.

I'm probably just about done with defending the show's performance on here now as I don't really see the need when both BB and CBB have reversed a downward trend and are heading back the other way. It's been renewed again- if the performance is as bad as you claim, I have only one question, why do they want to do more?

Based on this, looks like Breathless will be getting Thursday nights from 26 September.

Good for Doc Martin though, ITV should dominate Mondays for a good 8 weeks - like New Tricks does for Tuesdays.

Quite a weak slot for Breathless. Would have expected better for an expensive lavish drama like this.

Don't think ITV are trying to "trick the BBC".

If you're saying that Through the Keyhole includes "swearing & crude humour", then it's sort of in the same league as the likes of QI & Mock the Week. First run episodes don't run before 9pm, but they have shown them at 9pm before. Can't be that bad, and it could benefit from X Factor of course.

Big Star, Little Star occupying the Wednesday 8pm slot should be good for it, better than a weekday. 4 million is very possible.

On the subject of Doc Martin, it seems to be a show that is capable of getting 8m+ on its own, it doesn't have to be paired up with X Factor or Corrie, but of course, doing so will help it further.

As for Pat & Cabbage, the title would be a turn-off, but at least they aren't dragging it out to an hour, and the trailers don't look very bad. Worth pointing out that Vicious got a lot of promotion on the channel as far as the promos were concerned, and yes it started well but fell away after that. I don't know what'll happen as far as P&C is concerned, it could be a hit, or a flop. We'll see.

Where else is there for it? Breathless, Whitechapel and Doc Martin are all important shows for ITV, and they can't all get Mondays. What it does mean is that the benchmark for Breathless is a bit lower, although it will depend quite heavily on how Pat & Cabbage does.

Quite a strong looking autumn lineup from ITV I guess. Plenty of crowd pleasing older skewing drama. Some inoffensive looking new entertainment as well. And a good number of ratings bankers from one night to the next, apart from the usual weak spot of Tuesday.

The BBC a little slower out of the blocks it would appear with the likes of Motorway Cops and Celeb Masterchef playing out at 9pm that week. Might not be a bad thing that. I guess they'll strengthen up in time for Strictly's return, in the same way ITV still build around X Factor.

Yet another embarrassing flop for BBC1 Saturday nights that has had to be dumped in an early evening slot. I wonder if they will edit out all the 'it's Saturday night' references?

BBC1 are quite quick at dumping flop shows thesedays, obviously ratings chasing, a bit like ITV were about 10 years ago.

It has been over 4m consolidated for every episode - so Samuel is right.

20:20 to 20:35 - under 3.57m
20:35 to 20:45 - 3.74m
20:45 to 21:10 - 4.34m

An average of 3.99m or under. So Samuel is not right, really.
