I'd expect Bourne to do decent ratings tonight on ITV.

I'm expecting a very comfortable ratings win for bbc1 at 9pm tonight. A top quality new documentary should ensure 4m for the Nations Favourite Channel. All other terrestrials will be around 2million mark if that. Very poor offering on a Bank Holiday from ITV.

Very poor offerings all round. The most interesting thing on is the most disappointing football match I've witnessed in about five years.

As long as it doesn't interrupt the X Factor, I don't see any problem.

ITV need to sort out their weeknight schedule around the soaps. Seems like they are relying on drama repeats, movies and factual a bit too much. They have done comedies, with Vicious & The Job Lot but they obviously had the scheduling wrong - with TJL over to ITV2, it should free up the opportunity for Birds of a Feather to take the 9pm slot, and Vicious to move to 9:30pm.

Factual does rate well, yes, but it would be nice for them to try out something different. More entertainment would be nice - is it confirmed as to what day Surprise Surprise is going on? It's a 10-part run, but I think it's the kind of show that could work well in the Wednesday 8pm slot (after Big Star Little Star finishes). All Star Mr & Mrs has done well there with 4m+ (better than it had done on the last few Sundays so I don't see the reason for the move).

Their daytime is quite weak, particularly on weekends but most of the time (well, not very recently), the strong prime-time line-up makes up for it.

It will be interesting to see what ITV have on offer this autumn.

On a slightly unrelated note, what are your thoughts of Harry Hill returning to ITV, to host a one-off TV Burp show this Christmas, looking back on the year's television, and without any gimmicks (Wagbo, Heather)? Also, could the format work with another host/comedian? It would be nice to see ITV nurture new talent/newcomers, which could work as long as they have the charisma and charm for viewers to take to well, and to carry the format.

I couldn't agree more. Terrible scheduling from BBC1, but their scheduling has been pitiful over Summer. Look how they messed up The Apprentice final.

You'd think they'd try to get some decent ratings with it as they stuck us with it and ordered more episodes. It's awful now. Take it away please take it away!

Is there any comparative data on Newsnight over recent years? To me it seems to have lodt ots edge once seemingly inferior ptesenters have been engaged.

Newsnight's problem is that the new Editor doesn't start until next month so it's just plodding away being unremarkable until he turns up. They can't do any big, major reporting until he starts.

So basically just once a year, most recently every August on ITV. The 2012 showing was Friday 10:30pm, the 2011 showing was Saturday 10:30pm, so the first time for a while it has been in the middle of prime time at 9pm.

Lots of ITV2 showings but they don't really count, all the digital channels repeat stuff over and over again.

So based on the aggregate audience The Bourne Identity must be one of the most watched programmes of the year every year since 2008.

There will surely be some sort of announcement either way soon, as Waterloo Road usually has at least one series already commissioned or even filmed in the can while the previous one is airing.

I expect them to order another 50 episodes!

All because ITV schedulers have the imagination of a goldfish and the innovation of a cactus.

Not to mention 22:00 on a Saturday in 2010.

Of course ITV used to show old Bond films in prime time. Now that Sky have locked those down, I guess Bourne is the nearest they can get.

I do wonder if ITV had something else planned to air tonight and then whatever reason they found they couldn't air it at the last minute and were forced to scramble for filler.

No other ideas as to why they're airing The Bourne Identity in such a prominent slot. Seems very odd.

They could of course have put on The Dark Knight

To be fair, I can understand why they wouldn't put a premiere on August Bank Holiday Monday.

Do they actually have the rights to that or not? I assumed they did but surely if they did they'd have aired it by now!

The Dark Knight is too long unless they want the news at midnight, it is a film that hasn't yet received a terrestrial premiere along with quite a number of WB titles.

ITV must be sat on them, as I think if C4 or C5 had them they'd have been broadcast by now, given that film accounts for a far greater amount of their airtime.

I think WB should sell their films to Channel 4 or Channel 5 as they'd at least get aired regularly and just let ITV have the Harry Potter films,
