Funny but I never expected EE to ever sink below 12 million but it has, and while not impossible i find it hard to believe as ratings fragment further for terrestrial tv that EE will buck the trend and add the three million viewers it has alienated anytime soon, last night was an embarrassment. It is the nations third soap so its best not to hope for passion, pathos and dramatics from the tired show.

New Tricks was an outstanding rating, itv needs to sort Tuesdays out as it is frankly a mess, Top Boy deserved the dire ratings, unwatchable.

I agree. EastEnders is not the same show it once was. Who the hell gives a fig about sodding Cindy Junior? Or Dexters new romance? The BBC have totally lost the way with EastEnders and come Christmas it will not win the Christmas ratings war this year. ITV know how to manage their best soaps. Corrie and Emmers are doing well because they don't take their viewers for granted. When Emmerdale was struggling in 2011 they devised massive storylines and won their audience back. The difference was that Emmers had a ratings slump for about four months. EastEnders has been declining for about 18 months. It is absolute drivel at the moment, there is nothing, absolutely nothing about EastEnders that can keep a viewer fully engaged for half an hour. It needs resting for a month and then come back with a week long of live episodes as a brand new storyline is launched with current storylines resolved by means of conversations within scenes of the live eps. All current storylines need scrapping. Fast. The only way to do this is to take it off air for a month and get Simon Ashdown to write scripts for the massive relaunch storyline. Otherwise it is going to limp its way to embrassement.

Slightly off topic (well, not exactly - just away from the usual discussion around here), but I was wondering when DS are going to re-upload Part 3 [of the Ratings Thread], some of the ratings data there would be quite useful for future reference. I contacted them, they stated that they could re-upload it if it wasn't too big but didn't really hear anything else from there...

The Strictly Promo is far slicker and more entertaining. The Stepping Out Promo is dull by comparison.

If you were a casual television viewer and saw both trailers, one after the other, it's a no brainer decision as to which one to watch. One is a slick, glossy high quality trailer. The other one pales in comparison.

The thing is Stepping Out needs to promote what it is; everyone knows about Strictly Come Dancing, even if they don't watch it.

New Tricks and The Great British Bake Off both performed brilliantly; I'm not quite sure why New Tricks is airing on a Tuesday, though surely another new drama could benefit from the lack of competition rather than an established behemoth? As I said in an earlier discussion, maybe it's so the new cast can have a free reign to bed in but...

The Champions League performed as expected considering it was basically a dead rubber. Top Boy is struggling but Celebrity Big Brother did well.

And I am pleased Only Connect has made the move to BBC Two, if only for the Champion of Champions. I think it will do well for the channel.

Stepping Out is ITV's 3rd string light entertainment format for the autumn behind XF, & I'm A Celeb. In the pecking order for ITV its much lower down.

Whereas Strictly is the BBC's one and only autumn light entertainment format.

XF has already had the slick mash-up of past performers, and then the bigger scale promo treatment.

Comparisons are, I suppose, inevitable, but Strictly is the main event for the Beeb, whereas Stepping Out is merely the warmup show over on ITV. They will be marketed differently accordingly.

For what it's worth, the range of predictions for the premiere of Stepping Out in the RPG was between 2.7m and 5.6m excluding +1. Somewhere between the two, I think.

Just repeats of course, this week.

I can understand that it's not at the top of their priority list, but perhaps we should send a reminder at the end of September.

Might I ask, why the end of September?

Give them a month to settle in after the summer.

Oh right - they must be feeling a bit miserable.

Apparently, it was so big it would crash the servers. Anyone who's knowledgeable on this kind of thing, is it possible to upload a thread onto a different server, and then split it into bits [before re-uploading]?

Both Stepping Out and Through The Keyhole will muddle along with only 2.5million for their run, if not lower. I can only see one way in which this will end. SCD will crush Stepping Out, although we don't yet know how well it will go down with the viewers. However even if they rate low ITV will not pull them.

'Derivative' - a bit like your posts then. Seriously you're the only person here who ever even mentions Stepping Out.

As opposed to between 8m and 9.5m (exc +1) for The X Factor. Me thinks it'll be pushing 10m, but we shall see.

What's the worst prediction ever made in the RPG? I looked back, people were predicting 13-14m for the BGT final (average) and look how that turned out.

I suppose you could look at The Voice in the same way.

I see that some ITVistas are already downplaying the prospects for Strictly: It Takes the P*ss.

I'm hoping that Brucie will have ammunition for another ratings-related gag or two. How about:

"I hear they're not having a phone vote on that rival dancing show...on the other side."

Audience: 'Boo!'

"No, they're getting a courier to collect all the votes by hand."

Sad thing is people remember Through The Keyhole as a genteel game show, now it's become a vulgarised show hosted by Keith Lemon. I think it will probably go the way of Lemon Aid.

I'm sure he has the stenograph machine and the telegraph machine ready to send out the message. Last time didn't he use carbon paper and the typing pool?

No downplaying, just simple logic. Stepping Out is going to flop, its against Strictly, another dance show that is in a strong position, you can't get more difficult competition if you tried.

No it's not...Granted Emmerdale has beaten it a bit in the Overnights but OverAll EastEnders has come out top...The Officials tell a different story and if we were to include Omnibus/BBC3 ect EastEnders is well a head.....

7.5 official for a Monday episode in August is not bad for a supposed 'Tired' show.

Please tell me the Euromillion numbers for Friday seeing as you can see into the future. Same thing was said last year and oh look what Happened. EastEnders not only managed to come out top and beat Downton in the Overnights but the Officials too and with loads of stuff coming up and DTC having a say on what happens at xmas I think it's got a damn good chance.

I bet by mid September EastEnders will be back up and everyone wondering why people have tuned in again.

Mmm not convinced by "Stepping Out" promo. Should have gone for more sequins and dance to tempt the "Strictly Come Dancing" fans. Think people will want to see Brandon and Barber perform together, as they were big in the 80's together. Shame neither were invited to be on "Strictly Come Dancing". They could do with a few more star names. Racheal Riley is a bit bland to be asked and Sophie Ellis Bextor. Vannesa Feltz..not big names really , but I guess Ann Widdicome did well as did Alex Jones even though she is quite insipid.
