I don't think the BBC has any problems with Sunday nights with Countryfile, SCD to come, and solid drama offerings. BBC2 should be able to hang onto their successes and build their own channel identity rather than losing out to BBC1 just to chase ratings.

Is there any evidence to suggest a BBC2 show has seen any change or tinkering with it on a move to BBC1?

Last night's Great @BritishBakeOff was @BBCTwo's second most watched programme of the year so far, only behind #TopGear.

The Telegraph are clearly listening to Robbie today.

The reason for the uplift in Great British Bake Off is that it has suddenly become a massive hit amongst twenty and thirty somethings.

It had a 30% share amongst 25-34 year old's last night. It's now a bit hit with all ages.

I would hate to see this programme moved to a Saturday night slot on BBC one. I like it on BBC 2 and it could suffer against higher rating shows. It is growing naturally where it is rather than suffering the hype of Saturday night entertainment.

I stopped reading at "X Factor and The Voice, Britain's favourite talent shows" - the majority of the British public cant stand both of those!

Still, fantastic figures for GBBO.

The thing is Great British Bake Off isn't really BBC2 any more.

As a former controller of BBC2 once said "BBC1 is the big stadium, BBC2 is the town square outside." Or words to that effect.

GBBO is now a Wembley sized stadium show. The town square is getting awfully crowded.

Also why should BBC2 lose one of its best programmes to BBC1?

It's bad enough that Beeb's second channel has a high percentage of daytime repeats, without losing one of its recent hits in the hope of adding a million or so extra viewers.

The only people who 'missed' it yesterday were hardcore Holby City fans.

Andy you sound a bit annoyed there that the GBBO has done so well. Am sure if it was on itv 2 and getting those ratings you'd be saying the same thing.

Five and a half million is now a mega hit. And yesterday the9m watching X Factor was described as nobody. Go figure that one.

It's on a par with Paul O'Gradys dog show or Long Lost Family at the moment in reality.

It REALLY is a BBC2 show in everyway, except for the ratings. On BBC1 it would be treated differently, they would change the tone, presentation, shunt it around the schedule, everything.
Thrilled to see this wonderfully good natured, simple show doing so well.
It is SO entertaining, watching it last night, you instantly fall in love with the format, presenters and contestants.

Why oh why, would they put this on a Saturday night? It's NOT a Saturday night show, it works where it does, because it's perfect midweek treat, something good natured to watch as you settle down at the TV for the evening especially as it is getting chillier and slightly darker out, NOT on a Saturday evening when you want something more uptempo.

Its a novel format that works. Why would BBC One change any of it. I think it could do really well in a Saturday or Sunday slot. Its a refreshing idea away from the usual shiny floor rubbish. Theres no reason it couldn't work in a weekend position. Im am unsure why it was not moved weekdays to BBC One regardless of promoting it elsewhere. Seems an odd decision to leave it on Two after "The Apprentice" and "who do you think you are" moved without any major changes to their formats or had any difficulties in retaining the original audience figures.

POG was on ITV main channel where as BO isn't on BBC main channel. So imagine if it was it could really be an even bigger hit.

Pointless is an example, they started a celeb version and changed the format. Stellar rating for GBBO though......

It would die on Saturday nights on bbc1 against the X factor. I therefore agree with your proposal to move it.

It's a million ahead of both those, more when we get the officials through.

EastEnders is "on a par with" Corrie too is it?

BBC One wouldn't change a thing if it moved, only the timeslot. And I'd be shocked if they put it on Saturday nights. It would either be Sunday, Wednesday or Thursday. Probably Wednesday.

However if it was to be moved, this series was probably the one to move, as I think it's going to peak with this series.

Staggering audience for Bake-Off there - is it too early to call it a potential ratings smash? It could be pushing 9 million for the final if it increases like it did last year. , but time will tell.

ITV didn't hit a million until 6pm for the news, so it goes to show how weak their daytime schedule is at this time of year.

Solid night for BBC1 as well, and a quieter night for Channel 5 with BB having finished. Decent launch for Top Boy on Channel 4.

Fantastic 13 tentmates, you could tell there would be trouble ahead and within 15 minutes the knives were out. That Toby, what a name, annoying accent, boring...had to go.

This series is on a roll. Another success for Emma Willis.

Theres no reason not to give it a go on BBC One next year, if this series does well the brand will become stronger. A shame that its been too late to move this series as a wider audience could have been built on its success. There has already been a celebrity version on BBC Two
