I've always rated Bedell over Mark Linsey. He's done nothing to show he has any idea about Saturday nights. ITV has launched several shows that worked but a lot of them are resurrections.

Do you have the rating for it? I suspect it was top multichannel with +1. Foyle's War was top.

But they filmed a whole series of it last Autumn. Both Alexander Armstrong and Emma Willis were in Mozambique for two months at the latter end of last year filming 8 episodes of it. Wont these be shown?

Also I thought Reflex's whole series has been recorded too and should be on soon.

No point is showing them if the commissioners think they are no good. They will both flop. However i suspect ITV might put Prize Island out next Summer, that's if the whole series was filmed?

Total Wipeout's not on now so what's the problem with ITV commissioning a similiar show? And plus, we're not sure if they are even going to show it.

I suspect they'll never be shown, but it's a hit business. And she has had plenty of them this year. If you've got decent shows lined up you might as well bury the crap rather than smearing it across primetime Saturday like BBC1 did last night.


In both cases I think everyone involved keeps saying the shows will be broadcast eventually... but maybe the commissioners are just stringing them along too? No sign of either coming soon anyway.

2m and 2.3m official is what this series is heading to... this is great for Ch5. And people say 6m all the time.... on average on Ch4, that was it's peak. Also, Saturdays in BB7 were getting 3m, despite the next days getting 5.5m. Saturdays make a massive difference. People can knock it, but if it continues to do this well at 2m, it will stay for many years more... other shows would love the longevity BB had had.

2m for Ch5 is an equivalent of 6m for BBC and ITV.

Perhaps Reflex will be on pre-Six Nations next year. Maybe this schedule for Saturdays:

Both Prize Island and My Man Can were canned. They probably would've aired in the summer instead of YBF repeats and Family Fortunes.

RE Friday's EastEnders, it was only down 200k yoy and that Super Cup match didn't feature an English team and only got 2.1m.

Great rating for Keyhole. The Proms only got 3.2m last year so it should hold up next week.

The Beeb will be glad to see SCD back next week. It got 8m at 6:30 last year so it should be a bit higher in the slightly later slot.

Only pilots made for both then, so no massive loss, although Prize IsIand will have been quite expensive with the location filming in Africa. Bit of a blow to Richard Osman, but that's showbusiness.

Drama is one of the BBC's strengths, but they really need to address entertainment, which in the main is dire. Also they have fallen into the Channel 4 trap of overkill with certain programmes, who really wants to watch a repeat of a property show or a four year old episode of Eggheads?

I'm not sure if the Corrie lead-in will help X Factor much. It comes to mind because when ITV had it sandwiched between BGT, it didn't happen to boost the results much (which still ended up being 2m down on the performance shows).

About what I thought for X Factor. Up for these early stages due to tinkering. Can it sustain it? Once live shows start I expect it to be down y-o-y.

Lazy to focus on CBB's worst performing day every week, only someone with an agenda would do this.

It was only slightly lower than it normally rates on Saturday nights despite not meeting the ITV junction.

The list of shows that are that much lower than their peak that are still on air is endless. And guess what? They have fallen away like that without moving to a channel that had no successful entertainment programming in its schedules whatsoever.

It's been a great week for CBB on Five. Wentworth launched big out of it; the show has been bringing in 2m every night except for Saturday; Bit on the Side is holding up okay despite Toothy and his sidekick making it unwatchable. All positives. And it will come back bigger and better in January without having to face the hard task of topping an excellent series of BB before it.

I went to see a recording* of Reflex back in the Spring. Looks a promising show but it dragged painfully being in the audience. Shane thought it would be coming on in the Autumn but not against The Cube as it is the same production company apparently.

*I saw two 'halves' of episodes, as in the same games for two different episodes (4 teams in total). In total saw 4 games played in 5 hours and didn't get to see the second halves of the episodes so don't even know who won.

A major achievement for ITV and a big success for Leigh Francis on the main channel after Lemon Aid failed last year. 9.2 million was very good for TXF, but we'll know how it's really faring after a month. It's a case of watch this space.

Think CBB will do well tonight, especially airing straight after X Factor some of those 9 million look at their EPGs and decide to watch CBB?

There is a crossover as most XF fans are young and CBB/BB trends young and female.

If anyone was wondering why the BBC have let slide certain aspects of TV entertainment my view is that such stuff is very difficult to sell overseas.

They have let slide the programming that only UK audiences would favour; the sitcoms, the comedy duo sketch shows, the light entertainment presenters that you can throw at any old format and get a hit...

The focus has been on "formats" and international drama like Merlin, Sherlock, the Classic Novels and so forth.


I think not consciously though, it would be moronic to do it on purpose.

Xtra Factor never really does do that well until the live shows. Until then its just full of auditions that aren't good enough for the main show.

CBB will be straight back up to about 2 million tonight I'm sure. Saturday figures need to be looked at in context, not isolation.

Big night for Five with The Expendables following, should be a strong day in terms of audience share.

You'd almost think those figures for Keyhole and Stepping Out were accidentally switched. I'm sure ITV got pretty much exactly the ratings they were expecting - only in reverse!

As for Saturday night TV, it's been said before, but I really would like to see some sort of horror style drama, a bit like the Outer Limits or some of the old monster type shows, standalone stories, a bit gruesome but a bit camp and OTT to lighten them up (though the episodes could vary in tone) with different guest stars each week. Would be great fun, and something for 9-10pm perhaps in Q1 for either main channel, though ITV could do with it more as at least BBC1 have some Saturday drama hits.

The talent show thing is wearing thin, so unless you can find a totally new twist on it (like Bake-Off) general entertainment needs to look elsewhere. The same with celebrity related things. Time to bring back shows with regular people.

Some kind of Gladiators/Crystal Maze style adventure kind of show with a big grand setting and where viewers really root for the people involved or can take part in some way by watching and interacting. Neither of the above should be revived but there must be a market for something like that.

I don't think Casualty should be moved from Saturdays, It provides a more sober alternative to TXF and is popular with older viewers, who tend to avoid TXF. The BBC should really try to attract the anti XF audience, most men and older viewers, by showing drama opposite it, same as they show factual against Coronation St, as they know most men and middle class viewers don't watch it.

I agree. Saturday night, after a bit of consideration, is the best place for it. But there needs to be less of it! It needs to have that "Wow!" factor again. I used to love to play "Who's going to die this week" but now it has become a soap focused more on the staff than the patients. Less is more.

My Man Can was definitely a full series, that DS article is wrong. Pretty sure Prize Island was a series as well.
