I think that is a really poor Strictly line-up, quite frankly the worst I can remember. Are they offering less money this year? It's about £50,000, which doesn't seem like a lot at all in the grand scheme of things.
But I do think it will struggle to get the ratings it has been with that line-up. One thing I've read that I find totally bizarre is that Rebecca Adlington wanted to do it but they didn't want her! That to me is madness - she's a massively popular personality, a double Olympic gold medalist, and Britain's greatest swimmer ever. Last year they had someone from Westlife, someone from Girls Aloud, two big name Olympic gold medallists, England's most successful cricket captain. What the hell has happened?! |

It would be disapointing to see "Strictly Come Dancing" then loose the lead it gained by hiring decent celebrities and throwing the ratings away again on an average line up of personalities. I cant see any of them being particularly popular apart from Susanna Reid really. Tony Jacklin isn't going to bring in droves of new viewers. Im not convinced by the lack of celebrity this year.
The kiss of death would be a Series 6/Series 7 line-up, where there was, in both cases, only really one contestant with any discernible personality and, in both instances, they won (in Series 6's case, after John Sergeant had bailed). But, as others have said, Strictly can't afford a duff year when the BBC's entertainment coffers are so empty. I notice there's some finger-pointing at Mark Linsey going on here: although I'd agree that he's certainly responsible for the mess BBC Entertainment is in, he will be having a particularly tough time with the BBC's budget cuts (DQF). Co-production options open to BBC drama (Quirke, Ripper Street, The White Queen) won't be applicable to him and although I wouldn't dispute for one moment that there are some lousy decisions being made, there are wider problems for all BBC programme-makers. |

Great result for The X Factor and that it grew from Saturday. Any news on CBB Mike?

Jill Halfpenny and Alesha Dixon were hardly household names when they won the show, yet became hugely popular. We won't know until several shows in, and characters start to emerge. |

Corrie - 6064 + 496 Countryfile - 5364 ![]() Bad rating for "Coronation Street" there. "Countryfile" just is a ratings banker for BBC One. The best decision Jay Hunt ever made. |

Twitter is saying Vera got 5.22m. In other news, most watched prog between 9am and 6.30pm was.... Andrew Marr - 1307 so have the big 5 FTA given up on Sunday afternoons? |

Vera turning into a brilliant drama for ITV, taken a while but really seems to have improved on earlier series.

Wow Corrie in axing waters there.
If this is "axing waters" then all soaps are due to be axed across the board as this was still a better figure than the full August average for Emmerdale and EastEnders. I think this was a very good night for ITV across the board. 19:00 - Corrie beat and dented Countryfile which still held up admirably. 20:00 - X Factor added extra viewers from Saturday. Hopefully this will continue, and ITV/XF will have a better year than last. 21:00 - Vera did REALLY well to average close to 5m for a drama which didn't finish until around 11pm. The BBC surely can not wait to have SCD back in their weekend line-up as ITV are currently averaging out as the top prime-time broadcaster in the UK. I have read many of the posts with interest, and can not help to notice that both BBC1 and ITV goes in swings and roundabouts...with no real overall explanation. The EastEnders vs Emmerdale debate was not too long ago the will Corrie ever overtake EastEnders debate not too long ago. This will continue to swap and change. The BBC do not seem to be able to achieve a new light entertainment hit for the weekend - not too long ago, ITV were in exactly the same position. Marriage Ref anyone? Both channels seem to have a similar programming budget at the moment, and both have their share of flops and hits. I for one still say we are very lucky in this country to have a commercial channel and the state funded channel producing such a high level of homegrown drama and entertainment formats.

Itv sources still haven't tweeted XFactor's rating yet which is quite surprising. Could it have already rated badly last night??
