Dave I spat my tea out. BTW I think biscuits might be needed on the British Intergrity thread. It looked as if it might be turning nasty when I left 10 mins ago
Seems ok - I'm just distributing biccies in the Vicky was right universe. Stuff's vanishing !!!

BTW - congrats linmic on the 5000th here

Ah, I was going to visit Amish country later this month, just for a day trip whilst visiting New York. Is it worth a looksee?
If the Amish look see doesn't come off. I would seriously recommend going into upstate NY or New England. The legendary colours of autumn or fall as they call it are not hyperbole. truly breathtaking. My only worry is that late September might be a tad early for the full show.

This is the UK - we are all close enough to be insulted geographically.
Indeed geographical insulting is a national pastime.

I don't think you fully realize the emotional turmoil this kind of stuff is for me.
Unless it's a place I know of by name, I have to Google it. Then when I see it on the map, I mentally tick back to all the locations I have pinpointed on my genealogy map. Then I have to decide, geographically, is it close enough to anywhere my ancestors lived to be insulted or not.
and a

Robertsbridge in Kent has had a fairly large Amish community for years. Lovely area, and lovely people too, from what I remember of that part of the 1970s .

Not necessarily this year. Our huge tree outside is already turning, and the leaves have been trickling down for a week or so. We've had really funky weather this year, lots of unseasonable cold when it should be warm, and unseasonable warm when it should be cold. Was a full week around 18 a few weeks past, now this week it's back up to 32.

Under normal circumstances, I'd say early October is best, but it's all messed up this time.

I have done New England many times and loved it. It is maybe a little early for the fall colours.

Weird isn't it. We're so far behind this year that I've got cuttings of last year's pinks planted months ago just about to flower for the first time, ditto lilies, and some fuschias are only just in full bloom. And the hostas are usually getting a bit moth-eaten by now, yet they are stilll flowering profusely.

No fair play. The knob gags seemed to do the trick every bit as well as biscuits.
