i had written 30,000 words of a book when my computer just died lost it all....
Aaaaaaaaaagh! Nothing worse.
Only once lost a hard drive, and that is sitting in a box waiting for me to win the lottery and have it recovered professionally as it has some live stuff I recorded on it (spent countless ages on remastering the sound quality on them, too ). Luckily I still have the cassettes though.
I have got dozens of knackered hard drives. Years ago I rented my laptop so at least repair bills have become redundant.

If that ever happens, I'll take the long walk on't'moors.
There's an over a million word project I've been working on for about four years that is backed up in 5 places including Cloud storage I'm so paranoid, and others.
it was in the days before 'outside' hard drives as back ups...

Both of course Though Talisker just nicks it, the Laphroaig can be a bit strong tasting at times. It's a mood scotch.
Go well with a bit of Applewood and Peakdale Blue (decided the Beauvale was a bit disappointing in the end. Ate it anyway )
Cheers!
i'm with you the Talisker is lovely....i've been to their distillery and was on crutches, instead of doing the tour they got me a chair and gave me about a pint of their different whiskeys to try...it was interesting trying to get back to the car....

I know someone intimately involved in the world of whisky (in a business way ) who was asked to do a presentation on a trip to a particular group of distilleries he organised. He still hasn't done it 7 years later as he hasn't a clue what he did for the week other than he fell down a flight of stairs - at about 11 in the morning - the lens cap was left on during the whole of one visit, and what pics there are were clearly in sympathy with the blurred vision.

Is there a name for a group of distilleries - a grin? a collapse?
Over to you Fink ...

Not tried that - I'm not a Wensleydale fan. Haven't a clue why, it's something to do with the consistency I think, can't decide whether to be a dry curd cheese or a wet cheddar.
I'll hunt some down and give it a try though - the dog will like it if I don't

the proper wheels from the creamery taste completely different to the weird stuff you get in supermarkets....

The Creamery in Hawes is a Shrine of Cheese
they are very generous with the taster plates

I was particularly taken with how you continued the theme by quoting a completely different post to the one you were replying to.

That's been mentioned to me before, and I'd forgotten all about it. Haven't been up that way for years - used to stay at the YMCA in Settle, within a mile of the wonderful train viaduct.
And yes, before anyone says it, it's fun to stay there.

Beautiful countryside, the big corporation who owned it closed it then the workers bought it and ran it themselves....*power to the people punch to the air*.....

Lovely thought, but it's a very large JD for me right now
Actually, if I'm honest, I rather like these nasty little challenges (and this one was a real pig). I've been known to spend a week on such stuff. Somehow it seemed more of a challenge in the old days before all these neat tricksy progs came along to make it a bit of a doddle really. Usually.

It's human against machine, and the plug is looped round my foot as the final threat
PS - didn't Dangermoose nick all the scotch, or did the Moose and I nick someone elses?

My last recollection of Danger Moose is her climbing into a cupboard with a bottle of vodka. And come to think of it that was two months ago and I haven't seen her since. Do you think we should check on her? I think the pickling process should be done by now.

Wouldn't have thought so.
In the days of the (fairly) young Sensible, I wrote a passage praising it after being handed a petition sheet to fill in while on a Settle-Carlisle day trip, and ended up with it being used in the evidence at the enquiry to decide whether to keep it open.
That was the second time I'd been there, and we were lucky enough to be able to walk the line across the viaduct early in the morning as there were only two trains a day.

I love it, but can never decide if it's a monument to bravery, stupidity or plain Victorian stubborness to get the job done at any cost.

She made a fleeting reappearance a couple of weeks ago and then fled back into the cupboard.
