Oh good. I think I picked up the other thread that you wear a head scarf. I assume you wear it open faced. My question concerns the full face covering.

Although i respect a woman's right to wear what she chooses I do have a thought on the scarf that covers all but the eyes (in fact I have seen the eyes covered by a sort of gauze too).

It feels to me that the face is important because it is sort of where our humanity is communicated. You look to someone face to see if they are friendly, happy, angry etc. I find it quite disconcerting if I can't see a face and the person almost vanishes. It is almost like a real world equivilant of how people think they can be rude to people on these forums in a way I am sure most would never be in real life. They think it doesn't matter if they are rude because they are not faced with a real person just a name on a screen

i just wondered if any such discussion take place in the muslim community i.e by covering the face you are vulnerable to being treated as less than human because the thing that we derive our cues from is hidden.

Sorry if any of this is offensive. I am expressing myself badly because I am going fast because can't expect you to stay up all night waiting. So I hope you will be generous and read the intentions behind the enquiry.

wondered who it was in the garden.
Seeing as it's either quiet on the forum (compared to earlier) or covered by you lot, I'd just popped out to hear the owl patrol and thought there was something rustling around the gibbet.
Feel free if needed.
Edit - I'm off to bed. Night all x

Most ppl I have talked to, male and female (also my own opinion) firmly believe that when in a public place, especially places such as a bank, shop, the doctors, or where a face to face chat might transpire...then it's pretty rude and unnecessary to hide your face.

I would find it difficult to converse with a woman whose face was covered, and i'm a muslim...so I can only imagine how hard it would be for non muslim to fathom what the flip was going on.

Most ppl I know share my opinions, and struggle to understand why a small fraction of women who make a big hoo ha about not uncovering their face for anyone...are drawing so much negative attention towards themselves, especially for something so minor.
Also, a large portion of muslim do work, especially ones born and bred in this country. It goes without saying that covering your face at work is not going to work. Not sure my clients would be half as nice to me if I did.

I'm not disregarding women who do observe the full purduh, and to be frank they have a lot of guts to do so. But it's not usually the ones who have the whole body covered who make a big and song dance about their face. It's (imo) the ones who only cover their faces.

There are three different types of veil thingys.
The burkha covers you from head to toe, usually black, and probably quite rare to see. The niqab covers your face, bar your eyes. The hijab, is like a headscarf, which would leave your face uncovered, and which is what the majority lean towards.

Hope this has helped.

Very helpful. And thank you for the names of the garments. We see quite a few burkhas around here. Mostly black but some make me smile because they are black with very blingy and to my eyes rather 'street' designs on them. Seems contradictory to me but I don't know enough to say.

However I have found myself not noticing someone in a burkha, Again I find it hard to express appropriately. I have to remind myself that there is a thinking feeling human just like me inside what appears as a black object,

Hard subject to discuss and I certainly wouldn't have dared on another thread. But how we gain understanding if we can't talk I have no idea. Thanks for enlightening me a little.

Glad to help.
I'm always willing to answer curious ppl who are genuine when asking me what they feel they need/want to know.
If you don't ask, how will you ever know, right?
My friends are always grilling me, but the questions they usually ask are about sex, dating, and other slightly colourful stuff.

very interesting thanks Bagshot for taking the time to write.
where i used to live a lot of ladies used to wear the full burkha with the gauze bit over the eyes that An mentioned, it used to worry me to see them driving as i thought it must totally hinder their periphery vision.

I took me a while to find this haven.
It was actually by default.
I took a wrong turn, and kinda gatecrashed.
Now, i'm more or less squatting.

I wouldn't presume. Besides I am fairly confident in assuming that Asians have sex in much the way Caucasians do. Its seems unlikely they have a unique way - but if they do and its better I am all ears!

Glad to be of service, and feel free to ask in the future.
I'm quite curious (nosy) myself, so don't mind.
