That's the problem though, those key channels are the very channels people expect when opting for pay-tv.
VOD is best suited as a bolt-on to an existing multi-channel broadcast service (i.e. like cable in the US and now launching here in the UK), not as the main selling point with a few broadcast channels added on as an afterthought.
The picture quality via Homechoice is said to be poor too, yet those in Glasgow say ntl's VOD quality is excellent. Is this because Homechoice is using less bandwidth for its streams? Will the increased broadband speeds further erode Homechoice picture quality as I've heard TV picture actually degrades when used with broadband, or is it the broadband service that suffers?
These problems need to be sorted out before Homechoice can be considered a serious contender in a market already dominated by Wanadoo, AOL, BT, Sky and cable.
