I'm a Sony man, but...
... unfortunately, I think they have missed the boat again!
Yes, the DVB version will come out and yes the 710 oozes quality like the rest of my Sony equipment, however, being the "proud" owner (for all its misgivings, some to be solved soon), the Panasonic TUCTH100, apart from not having a DVDR, has 2 tuners and are incredibly useful ( I often find that I am recording 2 channels - especially to pad out EPG timings, whilst another commences - and watching a recorded item or recently, and I didn't think I would, chase playing a live programme) Whilst actually not watching more TV, I find that the Panny has changed the way I can manage our lives, incredibly easily, and frankly I could not live without 2 tuners. I would have loved to purchase the 710/ 910 (especially so that I could record to DVD, my sister always want me to record something for her!), however, I am unlikely to for the simple lack of twin tuners. Please, please Sony bring out a twin DVB tuner and you will rule the world again

Whats HDMI and an extra 150 of HD space cost?
While we're looking at prices I see that the 910 is set to be £699 and the 1010 £999.
If the 910 doesn't have HDMI then the difference between the two is HDMI and a larger Hard Disc on the 1010 (400 as against 250). Do we think £300 is reasonable for just a connection and 150 extra HD space??? IMHO it seems Sony are going to find it difficult to justify such a big difference. |

It would appear to have HDMI:-
http://www.avland.co.uk/sony/rdrhxd910/rdrhxd910.htm but of course I cannot say how accurate the site is. Just seems a bloody long time coming, Sony! |

And I agree with JB Link - Let's get our fingers out SONY! and back to my earlier point, is the £300 extra really justified for an increase of 150 in the size of the HD?? |

The HX710 is supposed to be out September time, but I have just found this website which claims to have them in stock now (and they even have one user review).
http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/8882...iter-with.html Does anyone know if this is correct? Cheers |

The HX-710 only has an analogue tuner, we are waiting for the HXD-710 which has the Freeview tuner.

Ah, thanks very much for that, I did not realise the difference between HX and HXD.

I get the impression manufacturers are stalling the release of recorders with DVB-T tuners so they can shift the glut of analogue ones.
Maybe I'm being too cynical. |

(not sure if Telewest's output is digital, or converted to analogue). Thanks |

What I can say about the 710 is that it has class. The 1.5x fast playback with sound is flawless - believe me you get quite used to using this feature when interested in getting through a boring part of a programme quickly! The fan is audible - but after a day or so this dissolves away and you really only notice that it WAS noisy when you turn it off! Fantastic simple menu and setup. You hardly have to read the manual to get this thing to work. Well impressed. I want to buy a high quality DVD Recorder with a digital tuner. The RDR-HXD710 should be my natural choice. However, because I wish to copy an entire 4 hour VHS Tape to the HDD and then split the results into 3 minute segments (music videos) over any number of separate DVDs I would hazard a guess that the Sony can't do it. What I am not prepared to do is spend £500 just to confirm my suspicions. |

VCR's have managed well enough with single Analogue tuners, because people had tuners in their TVs, so I see no reason why DVRs can't do the same. I'm thinking I will go for a 910, although I am hoping for HDMI connectivity.... not because I have a TV set which will take it, but merely because I want future-proofing as I don't intend to get rid of it any time soon. |

But consumer expectations change as technology improves. Dual recording is very available on products that use similar technology. For a high end brand like Sony it would have been a great opportunity as Nirm said. The reality is that is is a marketing ploy to get people to replace the units before they really need to by staging the introduction of these "must have" features. You can only wait so long and October seems about it for me

Thread has been active a long time. Does anyone have any new or updated information on when these are going to be available. Like Servo said, I can wait so long and if October is the promised date then I can live with that but not too much longer

I haven't seen anything to say there will be a change in release dates. The best place to ask would be in a Sony Centre though...

![]() No, Sony wouldn't have included fast forward/rewind buttons and you would have been limited to 15 minutes recording time per day......... I can't understand why people are currently salivating over the promised 710/910 models afterall Sony executives in the UK are sitting round the table right now dreaming up options (available in the Japanese models) that they can leave out of the UK versions! |

Yesterday, I briefly visited my local Sony Centre, however no news to report other than September-ish. Sony addict I may be (and as you can see from the left, already have 2 DVB's from them), however no amount of coaxing (even if it was free!) will make me part with my credit card for either of the Sony white elephants... basically no twin no win, sorry Sony, you really have missed the boat this time... and I actually feel in the past 18 months or so that they are losing direction as a whole which is worrying for such a technology stalwart
