Coronation Street & EastEnders to have their own forums....
I find myself coming on here less and less frequently. In my opinion this forum isnt anywhere near as interesting as what it used to be.
Part of the fact is that I dont like either Coronation Street or EastEnders. This forum is absolutly DOMINATED with CS and EE threads. Both these soaps are big enough to warrent their own forums on here surley? (BigBrother and all the reality shows get their own forums, so why not CS and EE?). Leaving this forum free for other soaps to get be discussed and not be drown out by EE and CS threads. This was the very reason I used to come on this forum, because many people here are fans of soaps from way back, ones that I used to enjoy but never got discussed much because they were either on sky, or daytime soaps. To the moderators/admin team.... PLEASE can you concider this seriously, or at least try it out. thank you! |

I'm afraid I disagree. these boards are a representation of the number of people ho watch the sopas - so EE & Corrie are bound to be the biggest - having said that, I just counted down the top 16 threads on here, and 4 were corrie, 3 were EE, and one each for Emmerdale, Revelations, Knot's Landing, Falcon Crest, General Hospital, Passions, Prisoner Cell Block H, & The Bold & the Beautiful.
Not a bad mix. I have to say that if you take out the EE & Corrie contributions, this forum would die a death - there would not be enough to sustain it. Also, I don't see why those people who like more than one soap should have to move between sub-forums. This is a soap & drama forum and should be available for everyone to talk about whichever soap they want. If a thread here is about a soap I don't watch or like, I just ignore it. Without wishing to be mean to you, your post sounds a bit selfish. You don't like Corrie or EE, so you want to remove those threads so that they don't get in your way, well I'm sorry, but everyone has a right to be heard and if people want to start threads about any soap, they should be allowed to do so. |

It does actually say that this is the 'Soap' forum so I can't see why two soaps should be removed from it.I'd say this was a rather curious request.

The soap forum has become so redundant since Christmas, that I think separating it into sub-forums would actually kill it off completely. There's hardly any atmosphere as it is and all we do is bicker with other.
On a positive note though, these nostalgic threads are going down a treat and bringing back some wicked memories (80's/90's - what great decades). |

I agree with Looby and think that the OP is being selfish. EE and Corrie are the top 2 soaps in Britain, so obviously they are going to be discussed. I would hate it if they had their own sub-forums, it just isn't necessary.
Seriously...if you want to discuss any other soap...start a new thread and then discuss from there! |

GarethMoore1979 I think that there are MORE important things in life, The fact that Eastenders And Corrie are the bigest soaps in the UK, kind of means that people will discuss them in the....Errrrrr SOAP forums!!!!

But do we need a separate thread after every SINGLE episode.
Some people are so sad writing in after every scene. Oooh that was good, what is she wearing, my isn't Dennis fit and all that shite. |

I think in some ways it would be a good idea so you didn't get all of this slagging off the soap you don't like and turning every posting into this.

I agree with the topic starter. If you look there is a general Reality TV forum, and yet Big Brother and X Factor get theor own forum.
There should be a "Soap" forum, and then one each for CS and EE as they are the biggest. |

Gareth - I sympathise with your predicament; I'm sure most people must skim past several threads that they've absolutely no interest in. I know I do!
As others have said, if you want to discuss old bygone soaps, start a thread and discuss it. If it sinks without trace, then no-one else is interested in the topic and it would've disappeared anyway, regardless of whether Corrie & EE have their own sub-forums or not. ![]() Surely something like "Discuss old soap operas here" would be fairly all-encompassing. ![]() Having a quick look around at the bottom of the Soaps Forum, there are already some threads of this nature, and they don't seem to be that popular. Why not "nudge" one up? http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/...ad.php?t=18731 Last edited by Etheric Beam : 27-01-2005 at 17:02. |

I may be barking up the wrong tree, but doesn't the fact that each episode (usually) has it's own discussion thread mean that the DS servers are taxed less than if we had one very large single thread for the discussion of "last night's episode"? Personally, I'd like to see all the main UK soaps get their own Spoilers thread, just like "The Bill spoilers" as there always seems to be endless spoiler posts. But then that's just my preference, and is contradicted anyway by my arguments above!

I don't think the soaps Corrie and EE needs their own seperate threads. I did at one stage thing it would be a good idea, but people should learn to be able to discuss and share their opinions and talk about whatever subjects they wish. Its nobodys fault if the majority of the forum users all want to talk about Corrie and EastEnders.
I like the threads after each episode, but for once I agree with Rovers Rej oops I mean Return that its annoying when users write about each individual scene!

I agree EE and Corrie should be apart that way the mods can see which people are causing bother.

Talking after every scene isn't TOO common though, I mean it's not exactly overwhelming the place, is it? Just make sure you start the thread no more than 5 minutes before it starts, the habit of starting them hours before they begin is a bit daft..
I've only discussed EE whilst watching for the last few episodes I've watched, but given what I think of the show right now (and what certain others think), that's to be expected. With the others I will just write an opinion once the episodes finish... Compare this to the Big Brother forum where people feel a need to comment on every little detail 24/7, ("ooh so and so just scratched etc") and where you'll be lucky to find a thread more than ten minutes old on the first page, and somehow it seems positively SANE and quiet in here. And I don't agree with the soap forum being separated at all. It's busy but not massively so. And if you look there are plenty of Emmerdale threads and other soaps usually. |

Anyway, I once thought we should have seperate forums, when all everyone was doing was fighting. But I do not know, everyone seems to be able to discuss positivie/ negative points about each soap ok. So, I disagree Sarge that the forum has become redundant! We've seen an increase in larger threads recently aswell as new posters this must mean something. xD

When I read a thread like this I wonder if people get the whole idea of forums. People are sad to talk about soaps, and people talk about soaps you don't like so you don't want them here??? It's ridiculous.
Every person on this site is sad because we're all wasting time talking about pretty inane stuff. If there are threads on topics you're not interested in, scroll past them. Just as you do in every other folder on the site. The threads on EE and Corrie do not stop threads on any other soap from occurring or being posted too, if you want to see threads on different soaps, start them. Or if there are existing ones, post in them. |

I think that the majority of us would certainly class Knots Landing & Falcon Crest as soaps. I also don't think that a soap must be continuous to be classed as a soap. I'm not sure where you get that definition from. Oh dear, if you ban these, plus the original poster's EE & Corrie, there definitely won't be much of a forum left. |

Dallas is a soap, it continued every week and when its rerun its on everyday so it is a soap. Infact all those soap shows have JR on them and since he was in Dallas I would say it was a soap.
I always liked the idea of seperate forums but to be honest I dont think there is enough people to support them and in reality I dont think I would post about Eastenders or really be bothered to move forums. But here I see posts that get my interest about other soaps, I think thats a good thing. I really dont think I would be as interested in Eastenders as I am now had it not been for the Eastenders discussions on here which caught my imagination. |

but what if there wasnt a big brother forum.... and people started to post threads on BB in the programmes and channel forum. People would get pissed off with that!
CS and EE are both big shows, and whilst I dont like them, I fully understand how big and important they are to soap lovers. Wouldnt it be in there best interests to have thier own forums? Then let them start a new thread for each episode if thats what they want. The revelations thread.... how would everyone feel if I started a thread for each episode.... 52 episodes = 52 threads! Im sure that wouldnt go down too well with anyone! I'd be interested to know that out of all those who have disagreed with me in this topic, I bet you all like either CS and EE and discuss them. And now I come on here and see that Katheleen whats-er-face been sacked. Be interesting to come back to this thread next week and count up how many topics have been created on THAT! The reason I first started to come on here was because this was a forum where people liked to discuss the soaps from the early 90's.... it was the only place we got to discuss them. So OK, I COULD start up a topic.... but the next time I log on here its right down on page 3 or 4 somewhere (gone and forgotten). There are 30 topics on this page.... There are 13 topics combined on both CS and EE..... thats nearly 50% of the topics one page one! Even The X Factor has its own forum, and CS and EE are surley bigger than that! Wouldnt it be the better solution all found, for CS and EE fans, and non fans like myself! |

Footballers Wives and Bad Girls are drama. I dont think 8 episodes a year would pass it as a soap. But Prisoner Cell Block H.... not a soap?!?!?! SINCE WHEN?! Are the TV scheduals, tv mags, media and forums like this so dominated by soaps like EE, CS and Emmerdale that we no longer concider things like Prisoner a soap anymore. Failing my first idea.... how about a forum for "classic soaps"? |

Gareth, it's the way the forum works that if a topic isn't popular, it will sink without trace.
You can keep nudging a topic back up to the top, but if others don't want to talk about it, then sadly no discussion will ever take place. I can't remember, in a year of being on the Soaps Forum as both a lurker and then a FM any discussions of really old soaps. Also a Forum is only a place to talk and debate, and if the forum is different to how it used to be, then that's simply because people have moved on. There's little you can do about that. Again, I'll say that if you want to talk about Classic Soaps, start a thread and do so or nudge an old thread back up to the top.

There are actually some good places to discuss classic soaps and soaps from the early 90's on the web. (Let's Talk Soap has a few boards I think).
I can see what you mean though, especially your point about the X Factor, Big Brother etc. having their own forums and Corrie & Emmerdale not. I myself would rather they stay together. I don't think it'd work really on here, like it does on other boards. I can see what you mean, as it can be annoying having to scroll for two/three pages for a topic that you are interested in. Personally I sometimes get annoyed if there are several topics on Passions, Prisoner, The B&B, GH etc but I don't mind too much. |
