fibre roll out conundrum
comtal
22-08-2013
Hi,
Just been looking on the open reach map which gives my location as being enabled Sep 13. However if i check the BT wholesale ADSL checker it gives a date of Mar 14.
Bearing in mind the road 250metres away was dug up in march this year for a new cabinet sited close by and open reach engineers have been wiring up ever since which date is likely to be correct.
My contract with BT runs out before xmas and would like the fibre option when deciding who to go with. Thanks

sep 13 will probably be the exchange "go live" date.
mar 14 will probably be the date when your cabinet is due to be upgraded.

you should be able to see which cabinet you are connected to using that site. once you know the cabinet number, go for a walk and find it and see if it had a fibre cab close by.

the one you mentioned might not be the one that you are connected to.

Thanks chenks,
Looked on the site and apparently its cabinet 15 but for the life of me i cannot see any numbers on the old or new cabinet. So if Mar 2014 is the date it will be upgraded how long after that before actually getting it to the house. Cheers

there will be a number on the old one somewhere.
PCP then a number.

it might be very faint though, or scrawled somewhere un-obvious. mine is written top right corner in black permanent marker.

Hi, I got this link to check for availability which someone had put in another post
https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html

(Apologies if the results don't align properly when copied here).

Can anyone tell me what this means, I'm currently 8 months into a (very poor service) contract with Talk Talk and have not cancelled my broadband:
There is currently a Broadband cease pending or in progress against this line. This cease is due to complete by 13th September 2013. This will not stop you ordering Broadband from a new supplier, but it will delay the provision of the new Broadband service.

For all ADSL and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage. Throughput/download speeds will be less than line rates and can be affected by a number of factors within and external to BT's network, Communication Providers' networks and within customer premises.

The Stop Sale date for Datastream is from 30-Jun-2012; the Formal Retirement date for Datastream is from 31-Jan-2014. The Stop Sale date for IPstream is from 31-Jan-2013; the Formal Retirement date for IPstream is from 31-Jan-2014.

Note: If you decide to place an order for a WBC fibre product, an appointment may be required for an engineer to visit the end user's premises to supply the service.
