CDMA Phone
If I bought a CDMA phone in the USA on a pre-pay tariff, could I then get this assigned to a CDMA network in a different country like Australia?
When I say assigned I don't mean roaming! I want to use the same phone I bought in USA but have it connected to network in Australia (Telstra) on their pre-pay tariff. With a GSM phone I would just change the SIM card but CDMA phones don't have them. Anyone know if this can be done? Thanks |

I did a bit of searching on this and foung an Aussie and US site and they both agreed that this wasn't possible. Quote:
A customer is able to change from one GSM network to another and use their existing mobile phone. At present there is no protocol to enable CDMA phones to move between networks.
They both state that CDMA is better than GSM, but GSM has such advantages of the swapping of sim cards to change networks.

Thanks for checking that out.
I heard that CDMA is better that GSM and has better coverage over larger areas. I would buy one a phone if I could use it in different countries and have it assigned to the local network. |
