Nokia 6230
Is this phone any good? Thinking of getting it on Orange contracted for £15 per month
This will be only my 2nd phone.... is the video messaging any good, picture quality of images taken for MMS nice? Think if i remember from yesterday it came with an inbuilt radio - is this good, and loud on speaker phone? Does it come with expansion slot for memory, as i think it is also AAC and MP3 compatible |

There's one in my house on O2 - can't really comment on the video and camera much. The inbuilt FM radio is an OK job, fine for local stations with a direct frequency input, 4 preset sound levels, and 10 presets. It is possible to listen to the radio through the loudspeaker but the earphones must remain connected to act as an aerial. Loudness of the speaker is fine to fill a small room.
The MP3/AAC player is a good job and is stereo unlike some other Nokia phones. The phone itself comes with a 32MB Standard MMC Card that can be easily swapped with one with a bigger capacity. Nokia claim to only support up to 128MB but I've tested a 256MB Viking card in it and it works no bother while others have worked cards up to 1GB but it depends on brand. For the player, the MP3s are converted to 96kbps AAC to reduce filesize and sound good enough for portable use. Video format is in 3GP standard. Not mindblowing quality but excellent for filesize. If you had a big enough card you could watch complete TV shows on your mobile! |

that sounds pretty good then with the expansion slot.... what type of media files does it play then for video - avi? mpeg?
Does the phone come with a cable to link it to the PC? Though my PC doeshave an MMC reader in it already.... not sure how it will interface thats all |

The video format is 3GP which has been designed for mobile phone screens. Coverting them isn't too much of a hassle, there's a tool from Nokia you can use to convert.
There is no cable with the phone unfortunately although taking the MMC Card out of the phone isn't too much of a hassle and it doesn't upset the phones clock. |

Is this the phone advertised in the new argos catalogue? I want either this or the sharp gx301i or whatever it's called. (unlocked of course to fit my t-mobile sim thingy)

no thats just a 12 month contract, called orange sales to ask, they say you are only tied in for 12 months but they will extend the promo to 18 months if required.

I've got a Nokia 6230 with "Orange". One thing that isn't that widely advertised is that if you place a MP3 file on to the phone or MMC card you can assign it as a ring-tone.
![]() I've had about 8 or 9 different Nokia's and this is the best, very stable indeed !!! -- Regards, Overlord. |

real good phone i bought one yesterday for 150 squid!
it rocks. the camera and videa are good. no zoom on camera o, but u can zoom in on pics. radio is a standard nokia accessory now mp3 player is real good touch. 32MB standard is rubbish. try get a 512 if ur into your mp3s and vids! bluetooth headsets and dongles arent too expensve on ebay! |

there are rumours of a 6230i coming out, better screen, mega pixel camera
http://www.mobile-review.com/forum2/...ad.php?t=20709 might be worth waiting a little longer, there is a conference coming up this month when new phones are likely to be announced |
