Hi all

I have just recently moved from Australia to the UK and brought the Sony TV that i purchased from there to the uk. the tv is a Sony Brava - KDL46HX800

When i press the home button on the remote and move to the video icon and then select the bbciplayer app, nothing happens. I have spoken to sony, but they said that this is an issue with the bbciplay app.

Has anyone had the same issue? If so, what did you do to resolve this or is this something that isnt solovable??'

Look forward to hearing from you

Michael

Hmmm, so the app worked perfectly well in Australia but now that you are in the UK it is not working?

Did you make any changes to the TV? New firmware etc?

How exactly did you get the app to work in Australia? (i.e. VPN or DNS)

Do any other apps work? Or is this the first time you are trying the app? In other words, you have Australian firmware and used Australian apps, but now that you are in the UK it detected your new IP address and installed UK apps?

all of the other apps such as youtube, demand 5, sky news etc etc work and it is just this one that doesnt.

I hope that this helps?

Hmmm, what a pity as you are missing the best one. Demand 5 is not really anything to compare with.

I can't think why it shouldn't work. Maybe you could force a full factory reset on the TV. This will reset everything and possibly fix the problem? Check with Sony how to do a full factory reset if it is not in the manual.

Interesting that an Australian TV works at all. They use 7MHz bandwidth for DTT.

However I can't help re Iplayer. Sony's answer is a typical get out. They (along with other manufacturers) have never been helpful re sets from other markets to protect the UK agents.

Worse case scenario, you could buy the Now TV set-top box which costs only £10 and includes the BBC iPlayer. This is effectively a rebatched Roku LT, and you don't need any subscription to use it. It really is only £10 and until your set is fixed, it will get you the iPlayer.

Or, if you have been looking for a Blu_ray player, go for a good Samsung F-series as some have ALL of the UK FTA catch-up services including 4oD and ITV Player (+ BBC iPlayer and Demand 5, not to mention Netflix, Lovefilm and more) but check the models first as I think some of the lower numbered ones don't have them all.

As it's not a UK TV then it's very possible it won't work, certainly Sony UK and Sony EU won't be at all interested in helping, it's nothing to do with them, and it's a model that's ever been sold here - so they won't even have any information regarding it.
