Cal said 'The past two times I've made grave mistakes with axing characters and introducing ones who soon go stale. This time, I'm utilizing every character I possibly can. I hopefully want to get back the show's grittiness that it was most famous for in the 80s,90s and early naughties.' EE RAPE PLOT
New EP of EE, Cal James, has announced that a controversial rape plot is to air in EE next week in harrowing scenes which see Roxy Mitchell, played by Rita Simmons, is raped in the cellar of The Vic, whilst Alfie is away, by Adam White (the brother of Carl White), played by Ben Wigzell. Roxy will find herself alone in The Vic with Adam, but when he comes on to her and she decides against it, he drags her into the cellar and rapes her. The news comes after Cal announced that Adam White has been bumped up to a regular character. Rita said 'Roxy is absolutely terrified. She decides to keep quiet about it and feels ashamed and like she's cheated on Alfie. She's terrified of Adam and has no one to turn to, so she has everything bottled up inside of her.' The scenes will air on Friday 30th August. |

NEW EP AXES MANY CHARACTERS
The new EP of EE, Cal James, has announced a wave of departures over the Autumn of 2013 and early spring of 2014. The departing characters are as follows: Joey Branning, Alice Branning, Whitney Dean, Fatboy, Poppy Meadow, Dexter Hartman, Sam James Tamwar Masood, AJ Ahmed, Kim Fox, Tiffany Dean, Morgan Dixon, Michael Moon, Adam White and Liam Butcher. Neighbors to the EE set say they've seen orange glows coming from the Square, as well as screams and fireworks erupting in the sky. The cast are reportedly filming Christmas and New Year scenes right now, so this leads us to believe that a literally explosive Christmas will be tearing across our screens. Cal has announced that no immediate action will be taken to any of the characters until well into the Autumn, with the exceptions of Tiffany Dean, Morgan Dixon and Liam Butcher, who will depart in scenes airing next week. |

The three characters returning are Ronnie Mitchell, Peggy Mitchell and David Wickes. Ronnie Mitchell is set to return in scenes airing over the next two weeks, as is David Wicks. Barbara Windsor, who plays Peggy Mitchell, has said 'I loved my guest stint, so I've decided to return to EastEnders full time, with my re-entrance to the soap airing in spring 2014. I'm delighted to be working with Rita Simmons, Steve McFadden, Leticia Dean and Perry Fenwick once again just to name a few.' Michael French, who plays David Wicks, has said 'David returns to The Square in trouble, he needs Bianca and Carol 's help. I can't wait to see what viewers think of his re-entrance. It's certainly explosive.' Samantha Womack, who plays Ronnie Mitchell said 'Roxy really needs Ronnie after her ordeal, and after everything becomes clear, Ronnie isn't going to let what happened to her beloved sister slide. It's a blast to work with everyone again and to be involved in some amazing storylines. Look forward to what Cal has in stall for you this Autumn and Spring.' |

CAL'S INTERVIEW WITH DIGITAL SPY
It's been all change at the top of EastEnders this year as Cal James steps up as new executive producer of the East-End soap. Cal has been the executive producer for short periods of time earlier this year for EastEnders, but is now permanently taking on the role. Here, in his first in-depth interview with Digital Spy, Cal chats about his future visions for the soap. How do you like your new job so far? It's a real blast. Amazing actors, amazing opportunities. I haven't gone mad with power just yet. *laughs*. Lorraine Newman is a fantastic woman, so to follow in her footsteps at being at the helm is so overwhelming. What can you tell us about your vision for EastEnders? Really gritty. I want to get the show back to it's former glory like it was in the 80s, 90s and early naughties. Plot twists a plenty, as well as hopefully hardhitting storylines. It's going to very family and character driven. Any teases for future storylines? Well of course, just on my second week on the show, we've had Roxy's rape ordeal, which I hope is very complex and dark. I hope it helps rape victims understand what they should and should not do. We're going to see Sharon Rickman delve into her past with her biological mother again, and also we're going to have a very controversial plot involving a mental illness, just to name a few. Any teases for Christmas? I want to remain very tight-lipped on what happens this Christmas, but we're going to have the rape ordeal for Roxy to basically blow up. Alfie is definitely going to have a dilemma on his hands, and it's going to be a very dark Christmas for Janine and Michael with the battle over Scarlet coming to a terrifying head. What can you tell us about departing characters? Well there's other parts of the year that are very special for EastEnders too, including Halloween and New Years. Let me just say, a New Years party will go wrong, putting many characters in huge danger. We're also going to have another who-dunnit, something EastEnders is famous for, as well as a number of three and two hander episodes. And what about returnees? Well we have Ronnie Mitchell, played by the beautiful Samantha Womack, returning. And Roxy comes clean to her about her ordeal, causing Ronnie to become her rock. Autumn is going to be filled with the lovable Mitchell sisters as Roxy hits rock bottom and Ronnie tries to help her. We also have Peggy, played by Barbara Windsor, returning for a wonderful guest stint. That's going to be great, as well as David Wicks returning to shake things up for Bianca and Carol, at least. We also have a secret returnee, who we will be remaining tight lipped on until their scenes air. Let's just say, someone important for Kat. And what can you say about new arrivals? We have at least one new family arriving in spring 2014, a family whose details will be revealed down the line. They will certainly shake up The Square, and more specifically...the R & R. Thank you for your time. We'll certainly have you back when viewers want more questions answered. Thank you, it's been a pleasure. |

Michelle Ryan signs 5 week contract with British soap
Digital Spy can confirm that Michelle Ryan, who famously played Zoe Slater from EastEnders, daughter of Kat Slater, for a number of years in the early naughties, has decided to sign a 5 week contact with the soap with a massive shocking story line. Viewers will see Kat and Zoe confront their demons about their dysfunctional mother-daughter relationship, 12 years after Kat revealed to her unsuspecting sister Zoe, that she was actually her mother. A massive storyline will also see Zoe reveal to her mother Kat that she has been forced into an arranged marriage by a powerful and abusive family. Michelle Ryan said 'I loved EastEnders, and I've always said I would never go back as I don't want to ruin Zoe. But for 5 weeks of hard hitting, jaw dropping drama, I couldn't say no. Viewers are on for a thrilling ride this autumn on EastEnders.' Cal James, the new EP of the soap said 'I'm delighted to welcome Michelle Ryan back for 5 weeks. It's going to be fun, we have a lot of stuff for her and Jessie Wallace to sink their teeth into.' Ratings soar for EastEnders The arrival of new EP Cal James has seen ratings sour to 9.8 million this week, which saw Michael Moon kidnap his daughter Scarlet and hold her close to the waters edge of the river Thames, as his desperate ex-wife Janine pleaded with him, and the shocking and dark scenes of Roxy Mitchell's rape. Cal has said 'I'm delighted that the ratings have picked up with the edgy and gritty storylines. Steve John Shephard, Charlie Brooks, Ben Wigzell and Rita Simmons have all been exceptionally awesome this week. A special mention also to Gary Lucy. I love my cast already!' |

New Characters Announced
New EP of EE, Cal James has announced 6 brand new characters, all set to appear on screen in November this year. The news came after Cal made an interview yesterday stating he'd like to integrate his own characters into the show before moving already existing characters out of the show. The Sparks family Age; Yvonne (40), Xavier (30), Robyn and Logan (18). Residence; 87 George Street, Albert Square. Owns; The R & R club. The first 4 characters will form a new family on The Square - The Sparks family. They consist of mother Yvonne, her fiance Xavier, and their teenage twins Robyn and Logan. Yvonne is described as a 'feisty and quick to attack anyone she thinks is threatening to her or her family. Yvonne has rose from being in the gutter to being a successful businesswoman, and no one will stand in her way of top woman. Sadie Young better watch out.' Xavier is described as a 'womanizer and not very intelligent toy boy of Yvonne's. He's immature, and is purely a rebound from Yvonne's ex husband Daniel, whom she divorced due to his violent behavior. Xavier isn't scared to speak his mind and is not afraid to sleep with any woman he wants.' Logan is described as a 'quiet and shy boy. But don't be fooled by his cute boy exterior, Logan is cold and calculating, and if he wants something, he will most certainly get it, and he doesn't care who he hurts in the process. He aims high, like his mother, but is quite lazy for an over-achiever.' Robyn is described as a 'mean, cranky bitch. She's also incredibly sexy and uses men to get what she wants - money. Robyn does not aim high like her mother and brother, and is most certainly lazy. But be a cow to any of her family and Robyn will kill you. She's going to give Lauren, Lucy and Lola a run for their money.' The White family Age; Victoria (30), Tyson (33). Residence; Kirsty's old flat. Ownership; nothing. The two characters, Victoria and Tyson, are the siblings of Carl and Adam White. Victoria and Tyson arrive after getting in trouble with the people in their flat complex, and hear Carl's found a good place in Albert Square. Victoria is described as 'a lazy, incapable and not not trustworthy, Victoria is possibly the worst sister Carl could have asked for. She is very reliant on her family, her brother's in particular, for life's necessities. Victoria is very bitchy, and will destroy most of the female's on The Square.' Tyson is described as 'Tyson is very much like Carl. He is always the brains of the operation and the lowest in the pack of White brothers. Adam and Carl both overpower him, Tyson is very secretive, and will always have a back-up plan.' All these characters are set to appear in August. CASTING Yvonne Sparks - Patsy Kensit (Emmerdale) Xavier Sparks - Matt Littler (Hollyoaks) Robyn Sparks - Sacha Parkinson (Coronation Street) Logan Sparks - ? Victoria White - Emma Catherwood (Holby City) Tyson White - Philip McGinley (Game of Thrones) |

Murder plot to rock Albert Square
Digital Spy can exclusively reveal that a murder plot will rock Albert Square in coming weeks. The murder is set to become a huge who dunnit, one of the biggest in the show's history, claims new EP Cal James and cast member Rita Simmons. The plot will see Adam White, played by Ben Wigzell, murdered in the middle of a fireworks display funded by Janine Butcher in the middle of The Square. In the run up to the shocking murder, viewers will see Adam make enemies with various members of The Square, including his rape victim Roxy Mitchell and her sister Ronnie. More news to come on this exciting news. Interview with Patsy Kensit Digital Spy sat down with wonderful actress Patsy Kensit, who is set to join the cast of EastEnders in coming months. DS: Hello Patsy. What's it been like to join EastEnders? It's been amazing. Cal has been great, my fellow cast members are so friendly. My first day was very nerve racking, since the only soap I've been on lately was Emmerdale, and that will still a long time ago. DS: What can you tell us about your character? Well I play a very successful business woman named Yvonne, whose the leader of a very feisty clan. She won't let anyone stand in her way of becoming top bitch on the Square. DS: What kind of storylines can we expect from Yvonne? Well Yvonne and the rest of her family harbor a deep dark secret about their life before Albert Square and Yvonne is the most affected by it. Over a small time period Yvonne's feisty personality will deteriorate and she will become dependent on her family after her role in the incident that happened before begins to take it's toll. DS; Can you give us any hints into what the secret is? *laughs*. I'm going to be honest and say that I don't know what the secret is. As far as I know the only people to have that knowledge are Cal James and Dominic Treadwell Collins. They're remaining really tight lipped on it until it's absolutely necessary that it's revealed on screen. Whatever they did, Yvonne and The Sparks are certainly going to get their comeuppance. DS: How has it been playing your character among other actors? Well when I first walked into Elstree I saw Jessie Wallace and Rita Simmons. They were the first people I saw. I was totally starstruck, but managed to play it cool and make my way to the set. On one of my first days I got to film with Letitia Dean so that was really amazing. DS: Thank you for your time. It's been a pleasure. Be sure to catch Patsy on screen in November, only on EastEnders BBC One. |

Shelia White Returns to EE
Digital Spy can now report that Shelia White, who most famously played Bet in Oliver!, is returning to EastEnders for recurring cast member status, as Sharon Watts' birth mother Carol Hanley. Shelia's re-entrance to the soap has already been filmed, but Leticia Dean, who plays her on-screen daughter Sharon, has said 'Sharon wants nothing more to do with Carol, but she's now desperate for cash and claims to want Sharon back in her life, but Sharon can't trust the woman as far as she can throw her and feels guilty on her adoptive mother Angie'. |

Thoughts on Phil's car crash and Carol Hanley's return?
Halloween in Albert Square Digital Spy have recently got a second interview with EP of EastEnders Cal James for a special in depth discussion on Halloween in Albert Square. DS; So, what's this Halloween going to involve for the residents in Albert Square? Well, everything that can go wrong, will go wrong between Halloween and Christmas. The residents gather for a Halloween party in the Vic, but a deep dark secret is going to revealed which will rock at least 2 resident's life. As revealed before, Carl White's brother, Adam, is going to be murdered in the coming weeks, with a long list of suspects, which I can officially give to you later. Halloween will see one resident reveal to another resident the truth about who killed Adam. DS: Do you hope that Halloween could possibly be a trademark for EastEnders in the future, much like Christmas is? Well, I'm pretty sure the show will always make the effort when it wants to. I personally think Halloween is Channel 4's Hollyoaks trademark, but I'll always make the effort as long as I'm in charge. I really can't wait for Halloween to air, it's going to be a big moment. Lots of great actors and actresses are involved in the episode, such as Michelle Ryan, Jessie Wallace, Samantha Womack, Rita Simmons, Jake Wood, Shane Richie and Daniel Coonan. So who are the suspects for Adam's murder? The line up: Roxy Mitchell Ronnie Mitchell Phil Mitchell Alfie Moon Kat Slater Zoe Slater Carl White Kirsty Branning Max Branning Lauren Branning Abi Branning Will we be surprised? Hopefully. A lot of suspects on that list are obvious, so we don't want to go for the obvious, but then again the obvious can also be more shocking as it throws the audience off. I really want to shock my audience to the point where everywhere, everyone is talking about EastEnders. Thank you, hopefully we can speak again. Thank you, |

Her biological mother, Carol, is desperate and needs Sharon. But Sharon's loyalty lies with Den and Angie, so she struggles to cope.' EastEnders ratings soar for Phil's car crash The ratings have soared for EastEnders car crash, which saw Phil and Carl get into deep trouble. EastEnders reportedly pulled in 8.9 million viewers, with a large share of the audience raked in on both BBC One and the repeat on BBC Three. |

Thanks, this means a lot, considering you're so good you should be writing for EastEnders yourself
