Anyone seen the news about what's in tomorrows papers? I think it's the Sun that reports Eastenders ARE or WERE 48 hours from Axe as they had run out of storylines and scripts....Worrying that news, didn't quite catch the entire story yet but I'm sure we'll hear more about it on this thread throughout tonight and tomorrow...

Most probably the Daily Star. They are always exaggerating things. The show is always around six weeks ahead with filming so whichever paper has this headline is spouting a load of rubbish.

I can say without even knowing what newspaper that is, that it's nonsense. And I am not even an EE fan.

Rubbish!

They would have found something to keep us 'entertained', even if it did mean 4x30min weekly episodes simply showing Den in front of a webcam.

They make themselves look so ridiculous now. Do their readers actually believe it? Eastenders bosses, whoever they may be in any given week, must have a chuckle sometimes at these sort of headlines.

I wouldn't eat fish & chips off the Daily Star, I once watched a documentary about it, they reported that some womans son had been abducted by aliens but she then believed he was a fishfinger and she kept him on a plate or something. This paper is highly deluded!

EE won't be axed for a very long time. The BBC would be crazy to axe it as it is it's highest rated show and is an established brand. If they axed it and tried to launch a new soap it wouldn't be anywhere near as successful.

And as for running out of storylines? Soaps can never run out of storylines. There's always something to write about.

I doubt they mean in turns of TV screentime, they're probably referring to filming time and so the viewers would still get a month's worth to see.

But yes, what TOSH. The BBC would never axe this unless it plummeted to shockingly low figures on a regular basis. Mind you, the BBC don't rely on ratings all that much...

Even though it is behind Corrie at the moment, why on earth would the BBC want to axe it's most popular programme.

Its not that bad that its worth axeing, this is probably the 2nd time in its 20 year history EastEnders has hit a really bad time. And with it now back to hitting 11-12million viewers per episode, its hardly likely to be axed now or for a very long time. And if it was, I doubt the Daily Scum would get the Exclusive, unless they dreamed it up.

It's not always that black & white though...

When Michael Grade suspended Doctor Who for 18 months in 1985, it was getting viewing figures of up to 9million, which even back then was a very respectable figure.

One reason for the suspension was reportedly to free up finances for the BBC's new daytime television service. And also for a new twice-weekly soap set in London...

It would be the most amazing irony if 20 years later, Doctor Who comes back and they get rid of EE!

Well the other reason he axed Doctor Who was because he personally loathed it.

I have just read about it in The Sun but the BBC is quoted as saying: “Under no circumstances would we let EastEnders be taken off air.”

I am probably out of the soap loop, as I was addicted to BB and not watched a great deal, but I am suprised to read that Kathleen Hutchison is reported to have left though. I thought we were only just starting to see her work now?

There are other reasons too, but it's not that easy to discuss them without getting potentially libellous.

I do think there was unrest behind the scenes. I think there was talk in the papers a few weeks ago that the Slaters faced the axe and this may have been true. KH may have got too merry with the axe and scripts were being rewritten all the time. We will never really know all the facts. I still think that killing off Den was a big mistake too.

The Sun didn't state it was being axed in 48 hours... being axed leads people to think the shows completely ending. Face facts.. Daily Star is a joke paper.

Skipping back a bit!

She kept "him" in the freezer, which is genius.
Chances are, she's eaten him by accident.
