The last time I used Feel At Home in Sweden, Netflix didn't work at all. Well it loaded up on my phone and let me select a film (to clarify, you can use your Netflix account in other countries, but only view what is available in that country) but then just sat with a spinning circle and never streamed even a single second of video.

I still managed to consume quite a bit of data though. Data that would have landed me a bill in the hundreds, possibly even thousands, of pounds otherwise.

Are they deliberately making it so you can't stream then?

Probably just low priority. Could be latency too, since all traffic will get routed via the UK.

I found in the US, everything would work really quickly apart from anything to do with streaming. Even Spotify would have trouble.

Would LTE Roaming fix this problem ? Know we are certainly getting to around the time when LTE Roaming becomes the norm not the exception.

Based on my experience, no. I would often get 10 meg on T-Mobile in the US and Youtube still wouldn't stream.

I was lucky enough to have tried Three at home in many countries over a short space of time as I work for a luxury cruise line.

I never tested streaming but data speeds in general was as good as they was in the UK (I get up to 13 meg in Lincolnshire).

I got to test in:

Italy
Sweden
Denmark
USA
UK

And they was all within a month

Shame it doesn't work in Funchal, Madeira or Barcelona otherwise I would be happy on my cruise as well

Need to find some decent internet on Madeira to download from iPlayer all the items that I will have missed on the TA from Miami

I've just come back from the USA and made full use of Feel At Home although I only used about 4 gb of data which was mostly on maps, uploading photos and email. Streaming was pretty much non existent on either T-Mobile or AT&T. One thing I did notice though, is that the data seems to route back to the UK first kind of like when using a VPN. An easy way to tell this is to connect to a wifi network and go on the BBC website where you'll see lots of adverts. Use the mobile connection instead of wifi and it takes you to the UK version of the site.
4GB!!! How long were you there for? I used 803MB in 6 days and thought I had done well

Well I don't know if this will help but I used a VPN on my Android phone when I used the euro internet pass and streaming worked then?

VPN is basically the de-facto gold standard for bypassing any ISP imposed throttling, shaping, or blocks.

VPN didn't help me when trying to use RDP.

Tried reading the thread but it's so big now. Rung CS and they gave conflicting answers.

1) If I'm in the US and calling a UK mobile that's also in the US will I be charged?

2) If I'm in the US and I SMS a UK mobile that's in the US will I be charged?

3) If I'm in the US and receive a call from a UK mobile that's in the US will I be charged?

Sorry, I just need this answering.

Feel at home means you just imagine you're in the UK. Do that and it's easy to work everything out!

Hmm, just got back from the US and I've received a text from 3 telling me I've nearly reached my credit limit. I've used it within the rules established above so have 3 made a mistake?

I know it would be easier me calling them and finding out but I'm recovering today.

Well, have you used My3 to check on your spend ?

Did you use your phone to call US numbers while there? That's out of bundle.

Was this on PAYG or contract? If PAYG then you needed to have an add-on allowance that gave you mins/texts/data to benefit from Feel At Home - if you were just using PAYG minutes etc. then they cost the full international roaming rates.

Precisely.

Oh no....hang on, though. If it were PAYG he wouldn't be getting advice of reaching his credit limit.

Using My3 is always a good idea! When I used Feel at Home in Austria in January on a PAYG phone I used My3 to check that calls and data were coming out of my bundle......luckily they were!!!

For data the 150Mb given "free" with each top-up seems also to count as a "bundle" - it used it before moving onto the add-on I had purchased.

888MB in 20 minutes. What was he downloading?

Obviously the cost is insane, but it IS advertised and at some point he lifted the block.

But what a surprise, it was cancelled as a goodwill gesture as always happens when people moan. Far more profitable to charge those rates and have many users pay, while refunding a few, than bring the charges down for all.
