Hi
I'm going to Donegal, Ireland next month. Just have a quick question. Will I get charged to make a call to another Three UK mobile user that will also be in Donegal? Thanks Baz |

How far this is true I don't know but according to a Support Agent in the Three contact centre, there is an announcement possibly happening this month with New countries added to the Feel at Home list. Also giving an update on 4G coverage?
Would be a weird time to do it at the height of summer as opposed to the beginning. |

The answer is no, you won't. ROI is a Feel at Home country, so your phone acts exactly like if you were in the UK. If you were at home and calling a UK mobile number, you wouldn't be charged extra if they were abroad. It'll come out of your allowance.
Thx for that. I know Ireland have Eirecell and Three Ireland. Does it matter which network I connect to or does Feel at Home work with all available networks? Thanks Baz |

Do you have to be on a plan after a certain time to be eligible to use feel at home?
Or does it apply to everyone regardless? |

It's not that easy even finding a suitable local "prepaid" SIM (their nearest to PAYG) as a visitor. Basically it is unlikely that 3 will find any partners for 3-like-home in such a closed market! |

SIM only on contract is active after 30 days, PAYG is instant and I think contract phones are instant.
I did pop into a 3 store earlier as I happened to be in town anyway and the guy behind the counter said it was for all plans. He mentioned something about having to enable international roaming on the account; I asked him to check if it was enabled on my account, at which point he directed me to customer services to talk about it. No doubt he was probably palming me off as I was not going buy anything -- poor service for something that would probably have taken a few seconds on his computer and had he been helpful, he would have seen that I had been out of contract (and perhaps may have had the opportunity to try and flog me a renewal!). |

Canada is dreadful for travellers, I went to all the main network's shops while in Canada and you can't even get any decent data on any network at a reasonable cost without taking out some deal you have to cancel, and even then it was expensive.
I didn't use any mobile data while in Canada and just remained on Wifi. |

I didn't have any problem with that. Just got one off the Rogers booth. Though it was a few years ago.
But paying for incoming calls however.....pah! "Prepaid" seemed to involve choosing a number of minutes (and would these be local only minutes, trans-Canada, US as well or International?) and low or none amounts of data - with perhaps extra data addons. As they expected that locals would want to prepay for this plan each month until they changed to some other one just getting it for one month - with no subsequent billing ever - was not what they expected to sell!

I didn't 'Feel at home'
Recently my wife and I took an holiday to the USA and were assured by the local 3 store as well as Customer services/support, that all we had to do when we arrived in the US was to switch on our mifi devices and the service would be there. Well nothing was further from the truth - All we got were messages saying 'No Service'.
So I rang the customer support centre from my hotel in New York and was told that we had to activate our 'data roaming' on the device (how should we do this?) and that she, the advisor, would do it for me. Zilch, nada, host happened, then she got me to reset my device (Huawei E5756) after which it changed the name and password of my device and still nothing happened. Can anyone help, guide, assist - we had to purchase around 6 nights of hotel driven wifi and we know that the cost cannot be claimed from 3 - we just want the service to work. |

The Huawei router you have isn't compatible with the 3G frequencies that they have in the USA. So it will not work on 3G there at all as the Mi-Fi was specifically manufactured for the UK/Europe market. so that's why you're not getting a 3G signal.
You probably could pick up a 2G signal. Is there an option in the mi-fi settings for 2G or GSM? But yeh, you shouldn't have been told it would work there because it wont on 3G. Then again its easy to see how someone could get confused as pretty much every other device will work in the USA apart from this one. |

My wife also has a Huawei (E5220) and this had similar issues?
I will take it up with 3-Mobile once we get some responses from them. Thanks very much for replying, it is appreciated. |

Setup Mifi for roaming
You need to log into the Mifi setup pages to enable International Roaming, so connect your device to the mifi as normal and browse the web based setup pages of the mifi:
Logging In to the Web Management Page 1. Make sure the connection between the Mobile WiFi and the Wi-Fi device or computer is working normally. 2.Open the browser, and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the web address box (you should now see the Mifi setup pages) 3.Enter the user name and password to log in to the web management page. The default user name is: admin / The default password is: admin Now you should be seeing the web based setup for your mifi, there should be a settings/ configuration/network page where you can tick Roaming. User guide here EDIT: JabbaMK1 helpfully points out these don't work on US frequencies |

Just had a look at Three's support page and just seen this. Quote:
Device compatibility. So yeh, you probably should have been told about this before you went abroad. All the new phones, Mobile Wi-Fis and dongles we currently sell will work in all Feel At Home destinations. However many of our older Mobile Wi-Fis and dongles don’t work in the USA. http://support.three.co.uk/SRVS/CGI-...se=EXT(EM11925) |

It's surprisingly difficult to find mobile broadband equipment that will work on US frequencies AND UK frequencies. |

I would still advise connecting to a 3 network where possible. I have had problems with charges appearing when not connected to a 3 network.
