I'm quite disappointed three hasn't added any additional countries lately. I was hoping for Germany and Portugal next!
Considering the Dec 2015 deadline for the end of roaming is just a little over a year away I was hoping for more action from operators..

APPARENTLY! DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT!”

I will though! Any idea when it could be announced? Would come in handy for end of December for me.

I have this horrible feeling that Three Like Home will end when the roaming charges become illegal.

I'm sure it'll continue, and even expand to more places. A lot of the places in Feel at home aren't even Europe anyway.

The EU roaming rates bill still has to be agreed by all EU member states, there is some debate about exactly how it'll work.

I don't think it applies to your minutes allowance, I think it is based on the per minute national calls a network charges.

“European fixed calls

Operators will lose the right to charge for incoming calls while a user is travelling abroad in EU as of 1st July 2014.

Operators will have to charge no more than a domestic long-distance call for all fixed line calls to other EU member states. Any extra costs have to be objectively justified.”

As I say, it is the per minute rates that matter, you won't get to use your "plan" minutes I don't think. Most networks already charge quite a high out of bundle rate. The stick is that customers can switch to the prices of a roaming network when abroad.

From the official European Commission website http://ec.europa.eu/digital-agenda/e...67489/#roaming
Quote:
“Roaming

Operators will lose the right to charge for incoming calls while a user is travelling abroad in EU as of 1st July 2014. They will additionally face a choice between a carrot and stick .

The carrot is that they can be largely free of European regulation, if they extend their domestic plans/bundles from 2014 so that by 2018 at the latest, customers throughout the Union are able to use their phones and smartphones while travelling throughout the Union at domestic rates. There will be a glidepath from July 2014, allowing operators to adapt either the number of plans they offer or the number of countries they cover at domestic rates.

The stick is being subject the 2012 roaming regulation which forces companies to offer their customers the possibility to roam with new competitors (alternative roaming providers) as of July 2014. From this date a customer will have the right to leave their domestic operator when travelling and take cheaper roaming services from a local company or a rival company in the home country.

Operators should take advantage of the opportunities to offer Roam Like at Home to their consumers. The Commission will review the implementation of the Roaming regulation in 2016 and may consider further Regulatory options.”

But I'm sure the main change is that roaming fees are now illegal?

Three removed this service before, what's to stop them doing it again?

What makes you think they would remove a service that has got them a lot of publicity, I don't understand why you think they would remove it. Can you supply a reason why you think they would, or a link to anyone suggesting it might be the case?

Share with us why you think they would.

The could do whatever they like.

But their current strategy seem to be a success. They are increasing their process whilst improving their customer experience.

I think they are rebranding as a premium provider and moving away from the bargain basement. This requires offering desirable services to justify higher price tags.

Being someone that is not particularly interested in price, it must be working to some extent.

Why would they change something that is working?

Their previous offering was not attracting much attention or extra revenue at the time. Commercial success is the best reason to maintain/improve services.

They never offered *this* service before. They had something similar, but it was much more limited and never advertised as heavily.

"Feel at Home" is advertised as being part of their current price plans, so stopping the service would be quite disruptive.

It's also important to remember that many of the "Feel at Home" countries are not in the EU/EEA, so I don't think that actually means much when Three is choosing countries to offer the service in.

Has to be Spain, given the photos.

Great news for MWC in March!

If the photos are a giveaway, why would they post the Golden Gate Bridge? Yes, I know Feel At Home is available in the USA, but then all the photos could refer to already available countries.

It looks like Spaina and New Zealand will be added in April according to the Feel Like Home page on their website: http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Phones/Feel_At_Home

Quote:
“Use your phone abroad at no extra cost.
Your device is already set up so you can use your allowance abroad at no extra cost.
Available in 16 destinations, with Spain and New Zealand coming in April.

D'oh. That's no bloody good for Mobile World Congress then!

So it's back to paying £5 a day then (which, to be fair, is still bloody good for effectively unlimited data).

What I would also like to see announced at some time is 4G roaming. They do have it on some of their networks (Denmark, Sweden) but despite EE and Vodafone offering it on some networks, it seems Three UK hasn't made any progress.
