Because that is not an inclusive allowance. That's an out of allowance charge. If he had bought a bolt on that came with mins/texts/data then that's an inclusive allowance.

The user was told this multiple times on MSE before going abroad and still got it wrong...

My wife (on a 3 contract) happily used her UK allowance over same dates. Very satisfactory. No text from 3 arrived or needed on her phone.

However, my 321 plan 10p figure comes from this page I think:

http://support.three.co.uk/SRVS/CGI-...T%28EM11925%29

If you run out of your allowances.
If you go over your allowances, you’ll be charged at roaming rates that are lower than normal. These rates are:

20p per minute to make calls
7p per text
10p per MB.

So, the confusion is coming from this: On the 321 plan, you don't need an 'allowance' for data. It is simply 1p/MB.
Everywhere on the Three website it emphasises that the rate should be exactly as at home and applied to all plans.

Still no response from 3... I will probably go the Twitter as suggested.”

I would find that correct and it is what I would expect.

I used both 3IRL and 3UK in Italy last week without issue. However, in every 3 country since 3UK rejoined the scheme, I have received an SMS from 3UK stating that I could go ahead and use voice, SMS or data.

That began for me on the 27/08.

I see. This is interesting. I would have expected to be charged 1p per Mb. Tell me more.

What is MSE?

So you know on contract you get 100 mins 100 texts and 1GB data for example right? That's an inclusive allowance so you just use that allowance. Once you go over you pay standard roaming rate per unit.

When on pay as you go you DO NOT have an inclusive allowance. So you pay standard roaming rate when abroad. If you buy a pay as you go bolt on. E.g 100 mins, 3000 texts and 1gb data for £10 then that is an inclusive allowance and you can use that allowance abroad. Once the allowance expires or you go over 100 mins you pay standard roaming rates.

Mse is money saving expert forums. The poster was told this by at least 3 different people before going abroad.

That's good info, thanks. I get it, but it isn't what I would have expected as their terms and conditions do state "whatever plan or tariff" you're on but then go on to refer to allowances with regard to PAYG.

Fortunately, I only need to be told once as I was considering using one of their SIMs for use in iPad when say, in Dublin, @ 1p a meg. In view of this, no thanks, Irish bundles are much better (100Mb free for topping up by 5€, then convert that amount into a data add-on of 500mb = 600mb).

I just returned from the US. I got myself a Straight Talk sim from Walmart and put it in my iPhone (you'll need a sim cutter if your iPhone takes nano sims). I put $45 credit on it and that got me unlimited data and loads of other stuff. Worked a treat for the whole 3 1/2 weeks. No issues whatsoever.

Ah.... I also did not get the hint

From early December we should see the USA become a "Feel at Home country". Three will have the same roaming partners as before and same coverage as before.

A few more countries will also launch in December. More European countries to come in 2014.

Game changer!

Go Three. Really leaving the other networks for dead!

I expected more European countries to be added through 2014 but never thought they would do the US.

Any idea if it's just USA or is Canada included?

If if the USA is going to be joining Feel like Home, I'll be getting a PAYG sim and buying the £15 a month unlimited data bundle for whenever I'm in the USA, or won't/can't payg customers use Feel like Home?

It'll be interesting to see how other UK networks respond to this.

With the 3 months in the UK for every 12 months, does that mean id need to have used and had the sim active for 3 months or could I literately get a sim tomorrow and use Three like Home next week?

Yes

A new contract connection has to be activated before you go abroad though. I think you need to wait a month as well or something. Pay as you go is already activated and ready to go.

I wish they do Japan. Japan is a real killer as they dont do Pays as You go at all. The only choice is to rent a mobile there.

60 days after the start of the contract to enable international roaming (2 months paid bills).
