I find it hypocritical of Celtic saying politics has no place at Celtic Park.

Michael Davitt, was invited to lay the first bit of turf at Celtic Park in 1892, Davitt was an Irish Republican and MP who had been jailed by the British for Treason.

One of the first people to meet the Lisbon Lions, again invited by the club was Eamonn De Valera, the President of the Irish Republic who fought the British.

And just a couple of weeks ago ex-IRA man and MP Martin McGuinness was at Celtic Park shaking hands with the Manager.

Probably worst of all is they condemn Republican songs yet have the cheek to play Let the People Sing on the tannoy at every game
First time I have heard of that happening. Didn't see any pictures.

For those who are in love
There's a song that's warm and tender.
For those who are oppressed
In song you can protest.
So liberate your minds
And give your soul expression.
Open up your hearts,
I'll sing for you this song.

Let the people sing their stories and their songs
And the music of their native land
Their lullabies and battlecries and songs of hope and joy
So join us hand in hand
All across this ancient land
Throughout the test of time
It was music that kept their spirits free
Those songs of yours and of mine

It was back in ancient times,
The bard would tell his stories
Of the heroes, of the villain,
Of the chieftains in the glen.
Through Elizabethian time
And Cromwellian war and fury
Put our pipers to the sword,
Killed our harpers and our bards.

Let the people sing their stories and their songs
And the music of their native land
Their lullabies and battlecries and songs of hope and joy
So join us hand in hand
All across this ancient land
Throughout the test of time
It was music that kept their spirits free
Those songs of yours and of mine

Ireland, land of song,
Your music lives forever
In its valleys, in its mountains,
In its hills and in its glens.
Our music did survive
Through famine and oppression.
To the generations gone,
I'll sing for you this song.

Ironic that the club plays this song at every game and now threaten to ban people who sing said "Lullabies and Battlecries" about "Famine and oppression" of "their Native Land".

It baffles me why the demise of Rangers has led to an increase in pro IRA songs at Celtic. Surely we have the wit to come up with some new songs.

The Billy Boys as far as im aware is the only song banned and its banned because it was an illegal(sectarian) song. If you sing it in the street now you would be arrested and found guilty of singing a sectarian song.

But all other songs are merely just "offensive" they are not illegal, so why are people being arrested for it? it makes no sence. What if a Police officer came up and arrested you in the street for singing Lady Gaga saying he was offended by it? it would never happen. As it would be absurd that someone could arrest you because they were offended.

People get offended by people having dogs barking in the street or by people who smell or people who look like neds/chavs. If offending people was a crime, most comedians would be locked up.
Is the sash illegal? There isn't anything offensive in the lyrics but is it illegal?

Must be pure boredom due to absolutely no competition. The only thing now keeping Scottish football interesting is the Scottish cup.

It hasnt, same as always.

Heres a game at Tannadice from almost 40 years ago April 1974 where Celtic fans sing "I IRA Irish Republican Army" and "I I IRA".

Mind the IRA won Freedom for the Republic of Ireland, whats different between them and the American Colonies who also fought and won freedom from the British? Is American Independance day a sectarian day with terrorists celebrating?

I dont know what your talking about, I dont know a single word of the sash or if its banned or not?

Who is really interested in the Scottish Cup though? its hardly Champions League like, just another diddy tournamnet.

The colonies didn't support Hitler in WW2.

America has armed just about every so called "terrorist" organisation of modern times though.

America are probably labelled terrorists themselves in countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan were thousands of innocent people have been killed by them in shootings, bombings and drone attacks, including hundreds of children.

Just last week the USA killed 5 school kids and 3 teachers in a drone attack at a school in Pakistan. Imagine the taliban had bombed an American school last week? **TERRORIST ATTACK** but not over there, thats just the good old americans.

Probably something in that

The travelling fans have always been more likely to sing these songs. They had definitely died out at CP over the last few years but I hear them regularly this season.

I think the last dozen or so posts highlight the fact that all this has absolutely nothing to do with football ... and that is why Celtic FC will be punished.

If UEFA want to remove political statements/banners from it's games then they'll need to deal with Barcelona and their away kit which supports independence for Catalonia.

Should Scotland be banned too as that strip is blatant push for the "Yes" campaign?

Let's hope so. I doubt Celtic fans want to talk about football anyway considering how awful they have performed.

What's happened tonight in Glasgow proves beyond any doubt that football doesn't really matter that much.

So anything that has nothing to do with football that happens in a football ground should be punished?

The tribute act will be screwed then.

Good success for your national Under 16s - winning the Victory Shield.

Maybe gives hope for the future?

In 1989 the Scotland U16s got to the World Cup final for their age level and few of them made the grade.

Far too many examples of players who look great when young disappearing from the game within a couple years to get excited.

English, Rangers follower, I agree.

To all of you on St Andrews Day, I send respect and love. To victims, and the amazing people who helped strangers on a dark night.

There will be a minute's silence ahead of all Scottish Cup ties today.
