The SFA bow to Celtic's paranoid ranting and have offered Josh Meekings a one match suspension. An offer he has, quite rightly, refused.

Citing a player for handball is farcical and sets a dangerous precedent.

Why do I need to add anything to our current woes when you and several "rangers experts" are giving us a running commentary every couple of minutes.

It reminds me of when the Irish wanted the game replayed when Henry put them out. A bunch of clowns who are ashamed by nothing.

Meetings admitted after the game he did hand ball it, but the SFA are therefore claiming two referees didn't see it happen right in front of them.

Quote:
“Well with Scotland's top club, Celtic, taking the decision to embarrass themselves publicly by writing to the SFA crying about a penalty they weren't awarded against Inverness, you can see there are problems.

I interviewed goal hero Raven and he seemed upset by Celtic's actions: 'For a club that size to write to the SFA is a bit much, it's definitely taken the gloss off it a little bit for me. I'm surprised a club like Celtic have done that – it's a bit of an error of judgment for me. I don't know what they're hoping to get out of it,' he told me.

Well done Celtic, your extreme arrogance managed to spoil the highlight of an honest pro's career. You should be ashamed of themselves.”

Getting banned for accidental handball is the most ludicrous thing I've ever heard. ICT rightly appealing.

The biggest game of the lads life and he's getting it taken away from him as some can't accept defeat. It's pathetic and embarassing

The guy should have been sent off. Unless you didn't see the handball either.

Celtic have every right to question the decision.

He admitted he expected to be sent off - but the SFA should leave it, if they want to look at banning someone it's the boy who fouled Broony and let his mate take the yellow.

it's a damned if you do damned if you don't scenario really, and what if it was the other way around?

we're in a middle mix up situation with retroactive punishments, and AGAIN we are faced with something that could have been fixed and done with with video replays!

it WAS handball
it WAS a penalty
it WAS a red card offence

we CANNOT have it both ways

You are trying to get a guy banned from the biggest day in his career. It's embarrassing.

unreal, let it go Celtic, do u realise the amount of decisions that go your way every season? If every team in the league followed suit there would be at least 3000 admin jobs created at the SFA to deal with such requests.

Laughable like our Football Association

From Garry Harkins twitter,

@jonnyhayes7 you fouled me in Pittodrie in January! I've just finished my letter! Expect your 1 game ban mate!

Even other teams players are mocking the SFA.

Celtic's issue isn't with Meekings, it is with McLean. The SFA are only doing this to cover up their incompetent referee.

If the SFA are looking to punish Meekings then they should also be punishing McLean as well.

Celtic havent complained about Meekings. Its about the referees performance. If the shoe was on the other foot, your club would complain if it happened.

Astonishing. I have bever heard of anything other than violent conduct or very occasionally mistaken identity being retrospectively punished.

I guess you could vaguely argue similar in that he would have been off if the officials had seen it ( and how they didn't, particularly McLean himself who had an unobstructed view, remains very peculiar ).

But it somehow doesn't sit right at all and I've never heard of such a thing.

Shit happens, where do you stop at retrospectively correcting things.

Of course if the dinosaur football authorities would allow video technology for the big goal and penalty issues they would avoid many howlers.

4th official with monitor - sort a lot ! ( clearly not everything, but some is still better ).

Anyway good stuff, SFA, why let the SPFL and they're 'what's the problem with playing Hearts vs Rangers a day later?' get all the publicity.

Derk Boeriggter got a retrospective ban for diving against St Johnstone earlier this season.

This is the SFA closing ranks, Meekings isn't the one who should be having a ban here. If McLean makes such poor decisions he shouldn't be refereeing these games.

McLean's only weekend appointment is as a fourth official at Hamilton v Motherwell on Friday night.

I don't know if that can be considered a demotion or not - how does the pay for a Premiership fourth official compare to that of Championship/L1/L2 referee?

Even mistaken identity doesn't always result in retrospective punishment.

It used to be that the referee's decision was final. Retrospective punishments were then introduced for violence conduct and serious foul play ("leg breaking" challenges etc.). It was recently extended to diving. That's where it should end, otherwise we're on a slippery slope towards every decision being scrutinised.

You are getting a guy banned from the biggest game in his career because you can't take it that you lost.

UEFA recently had a game restarted restarted at the 90th minute with one team taking a penalty after an incorrect decision was made.

To quote Sheldon Cooper "Bazinga". Get the officials to use video evidence where available. It would totally avoid a situation like this.

Celtic aren't banning him, the SFA are. Only because the SFA want to cover their asses.

You can't take it because Celtic want an answer.
