Couldn't agree more. Both sets of fans above are as bad as each other

Ireland join England, Northern Ireland and Wales in the Euros - do folk still think summer football is the answer?

Why wouldn't it be?

The idea that summer football is the solution is ridiculous. Summer football changes nothing when the coaching of kids is all wrong. Playing football in the summer months doesn't suddenly improve technical ability.

Well done to ROI and it's a pity Scotland aren't going. Not sure how summer football fits in though.

How can anyone think summer football is a bad idea in this country? Have they actually ventured outside over the last couple of weeks?
Surely no one actually enjoys sitting in horizontal rain watching people boot the ball from one end of a tattie field to another, playing is even worse. Hardly conducive to improving technique and tactical nous.
Iceland, Russia and Sweden have qualified despite playing summer football.

I know I'm in the minority but everyone would benefit from it, better conditions for players and fans.
We could always leave the juniors running through the winter, that way there is something to keep the masochists happy.

Too many fannies scared it will interfere with their golf season, that other pastime they use to get away from their families for a few hours.

The football season currently runs for 10 months out of 12. Which two months would you pick for the close season?

November/December? Fine...snow and frozen pitches in January. December/January? Fine..."horizontal rain" and "tattle fields" in October/November. April/May? Doesn't really change things much.

And before you suggest that lighter evenings could mean more evening games, people in this country already have an irrational hatred of anything that isn't Saturday 3pm.

I would agree with you here Mark, the problems of Scottish football go far deeper than the weather when the games are played, Pretty sure it was a similar calendar when Scotland were qualifying for everything in the 70s and 80s.

I don’t see an issue with the calendar months of the season being changed but I have a problem with anyone thinking that’s the solution to inherent problems in Scottish football.

There has to be a better plan rather than ‘summer’ football.

Kids should be playing on pitches which make it condusive to passing the ball no matter the weather. That means 3G artificial grass pitches.

sickened the irish got through it should have been us not them

Go and rent out a 3G pitch and see how much it costs or try and get on council pitches where residents don't want the noise. Some of the kids in Glasgow and surrounding areas don't have £5 or £10 quid a week to play indoor or on great pitches or for boys teams, some of them have parents visiting food banks to feed them never mind spare cash for football.

If you go past Goals or a 5 a side venue you'll probably see fat old guys working off the beer belly or folk in their 20s and 30s who are working and can afford it, not kids. Plus running boys teams now is a pain in the arse with money and other red tape and kids have computers and everything else to distract them now.

I'd move us to summer football as we never qualify for anything anyway, the weather is usually better and we would be up to speed in Europe quicker plus we'd have more coverage in summer as we'd be the only thing on Sky and might wangle a better TV deal.

the fact that TOO MANY GAMES are played, not too less, is the problem!
as it dilutes competitive nature in our leagues, and it actually affects attendances too, as without the need to be at the matches people will not go!

in fact, all of EUROPE should have the same top league structure

so tonight, some hobos will be playing in paisley
live on BBCalba too

DEMAND
that was the word i was looking for
if there is no demand for tickets, then it almost becomes a chore going to so many games that mean very little!

What a story.

Well done to the Green Brigade and all who donated their food, cash and time on the food drive. Tons of food donated and thousands of pounds raised to help the needy around Glasgow.

A bit of a strange weekend at the top of the Premiership with all 3 teams drawing.

Once Aberdeen were ahead today I thought that they would have had enough to keep Hamilton at bay.

Pink away top. Didn't we have one before?

Personally I don't like the home top (tartan with white sleeves).
