Surely no one actually enjoys sitting in horizontal rain watching people boot the ball from one end of a tattie field to another, playing is even worse. Hardly conducive to improving technique and tactical nous.
Iceland, Russia and Sweden have qualified despite playing summer football.
I know I'm in the minority but everyone would benefit from it, better conditions for players and fans.
We could always leave the juniors running through the winter, that way there is something to keep the masochists happy.
Too many fannies scared it will interfere with their golf season, that other pastime they use to get away from their families for a few hours.”
The football season currently runs for 10 months out of 12. Which two months would you pick for the close season?
November/December? Fine...snow and frozen pitches in January. December/January? Fine..."horizontal rain" and "tattle fields" in October/November. April/May? Doesn't really change things much.
And before you suggest that lighter evenings could mean more evening games, people in this country already have an irrational hatred of anything that isn't Saturday 3pm.
