Tell me, can Rangers afford 30k a week on players? Do you want Rangers to end up spending like they were last time when they couldn't afford it? It's a risky business to try to match Celtic and get into Champions League by overspending.

Big moves by Celtic and a great appointment. Do wonder if the board are finally gonna spend some money. Surprised Rodgers would take it if the board won't give him the money to improve the team.

He will get Celtic playing a good brand of football.

Shocking that Celtic interviewed malkay makay. He is a racist!

That would be a great appointment.

Brown has always been poor. A shocking 1st touch, cannot pass the ball and doesn't score goals. Remarkable his made a career of just running around.

Celtic interviewing Mackay is a disgrace. Why interview that racist, he shouldn't be welcome .

Smells of a Dermot Desmond appointment, Malky Mackay more a Lawwell candidate.

Buying a guy for £750k and paying him £15k a week works out the same. We don't have 50 players in our squad like Celtic and guys like Derk Boerrigter on £25k a week. A tighter squad means you can pay more in wages to quality players.

Moyes was supposed to be on the list.

Even on a 1 year deal the £30k a week player costs more and for a multi year contract the difference in total payments is huge.

For a 2 year contact the £30k a week guy costs the club £3.12m, the £750k signing costs £2.31m. A massive difference.

Got to admit I'm a bit meh to Rodgers but if he comes I'm going to presume the chequebook will be opened and hopefully a decent size chuck of players will be shown the door.

We don't even know it is £30k a week. For a good midfielder in a key position you could be talking millions + a lot per week. Offering good wages in a key position is good sense. Warburton's signings have mostly been excellent.

I'm not speaking about any player in particular.

I was using your example where you said that the outgoings would be the same when it wouldn't be.

Think it hugely unlikely anyone in Scottish football is actually on £25k a week. The tv deal is worth he-haw and I can't believe Celtic would think that value for money.

Scott Brown is reportedly on 25k at Celtic.

They would be for the year, if they were there longer just say you pay £1.5 million and £15k a week for 2 years, £2.25 million and £15k a week for 3 years. Celtic paid £4.4 million for Brown and have been paying him £25k a week for 9 seasons now, that would mean he was £15 million+ player. But nobody thinks of it like that.

That doesn't make sense when compared to your post in response to CELT1987.

You said that signing an out of contract player and paying him £30k a week is the same as buying someone at £750k and paying him £15k a week.

It simply isn't.

Very true. At best there maybe 1 or 2. Brown somehow gets 25k+ but there isn't the money in the game to pay many players 25k a week.

I wonder how much of Paddy Roberts wage we are picking up?

With City paying £12m for him he must be on northwards of £50k a week I'd have thought?

£50k a week? I doubt that, I think more like £25k a week.

£25k a week doesn't seem very much for a player bought for £12m.

What does the value of the transfer have to do with it?

He would of been on small wages at Fulham, signed for City at 18. Not a chance they handed him 50k a week.

It's all relative, you wouldn't offer £300m for Messi then offer him £5k a week in wages.

Ooft - how in the name of hell did Falkirk manage to win that one?? Outplayed for the majority of the match and then the token soft goal from the Kilmarnock defence pulls them out the shit.

Talk about a lucky run ...

True but as I said this was a young kid on his pro contract at fulham which would of been tiny. I just don't see why city would pay such a player £50k a week. Doesnt make sense.

So looks like Brendan is a done deal. I'm amazed Celtic are going big. It's about time!!

Looking forward to this appointment. An experienced manager whose got experience and has managed a wide variety of clubs. Think he'll definitely grab silverware of Parkhead.
