I'd scrap it. The top 4 clubs have enough players to loan numerous youngsters out for a season or two where they will get competitive games.
Others like Motherwell, Partick etc can blood a few in the league cup groups to see how they get on. ![]() ![]() The development league games are played at such a slow pace and such limited physicality that I don't really think that it helps anyone but the youngest players in the squad develop. Once a player is 18/19 he'd be better heading out on loan or, what would be better in my opinion, sticking the Colts teams into the league set up. Quote:
Having non-league sides in it isn't too bad. It evens up the numbers for a straight all-in knockout from round 1. But the "colt" and foreign sides just make a mockery of the competition.
What's wrong with a simple 32-team, 5-round knockout competition? I'd go for that. Quote:
Lol only you could somehow turn a 5-2 win into a criticism of the manager. At 3-2 you must of been so happy but Brendan turned it around.
Rodgers was brought in to get Celtic into the CL. Looks like mission accomplished. That club nobody has ever heard of have a longer history than The Rangers.

I'm very happy to admit I was wrong about Scott Sinclair, he's not getting much credit for last night but, particularly in the first half, I thought he was giving his FB a torrid time and he played crucial roles in 2 of the goals, finding holes and ghosting in behind the defence. He probably should have scored as he had 2 good chances, one in either half, but he was still a crucial cog in the machine last night.
I've also been surprised by Brown adn Forrests performances, I'm not going to get too excited about them yet as I've seen it too often over the years where they have all too brief purple patches. |

Just ignore Frankie 'troll' Fixer. His opinions mean nothing and doesn't have the intelligence to offer real debate.

With only 1 Colts team and 1 non-league side left in the Irn Bru Cup is it safe to say that this is an experiment that hasn't worked?
Last season the U20s won the League unbeaten, also won it with 8 games to spare. We also have our youngsters competeing in all the best youth tournaments since they are primary school age with all the other best teams in Europe, other Scottish teams cant afford to do that or they don't get invited so we are in a different League to them. Our youth team play too good a football that they dont even need to be at their best to skelp the rest. There is no need for Celtic U20s to be playing other under 20 teams when they are probably one of the top 20 teams in Scotland themselves. |

The Celtic youth team should be added to the 4th Tier, we are head and shoulders above the rest and our youngsters should be allowed to play real football. They've won the League pretty much every year for 10+ years, they've won the Youth Cup most of the time, they've cleaned up the U17/U19/U20/Reserve Leagues for a long long time.

Since the turn of the century Celtic have won the development/u18/u19/u20 league on 11 out of 17 occasions, won 5 out of the last 7 Scottish Youth Cups and we won the reserve league 8 years in a row before it was scrapped. Despite all that the players have found the step up difficult so I think that joining the league set up so they are playing competitive games against experienced players every week would do them the world of good. I'm not sure they'd be one of the top 20 sides in the country though, I reckon they'll get beat by Livingston in the next round of the Irn Bru Cup. Mentioning the Irn Bru Cup, here is the draw for the 3rd round. Alloa Athletic v East Fife Brechin City v Dunfermline Athletic Dundee United v Peterhead Turriff United v Hibernian Falkirk v Elgin City Forfar Athletic v Raith Rovers Queen of the South v Stenhousemuir Stranraer v Dumbarton Livingston v Celtic Colts Albion Rovers v St Mirren Ayr United v Airdrieonians Queen's Park v Morton |

Potentially 2 of them could get up to the championship, and finish top 2 so nobody can get promoted or relegated between the top 2 leagues. It stifles competition. An effectively closed Premiership would be ridiculous. |

No. I don't wish to see a few under 20's/colts sides (including buy outs of East Fife or Albion Rovers wuth effectively their first team beibg under 20's of Premiership clubs) appearing in the lower senior leagues.

Would only be Celtic too, theres no point in any other clubs having a team in it as they wouldn't be good enough. The Celtic youth team have been getting no competition for years and the players can't really be loaned out as the style of football played by teams like Dunfermline and Morton and that isn't good enough and neither is the coaching. So they can only get experience for playing for teams with poor styles of play and poor coaching which doesn't suit them and there's not much point in it. |

Last season the Celtic U20 team won the League by 26 points, won 28 and drew 4 of their 32 games. Thats not any good for anyone, they are in a different League to the other teams.
They only conceded 15 goals in 32 games, the next best defence was Aberdeen who conceded 42 goals, almost triple the amount. Their goaldifference was +38 better than the next best team. Incase people don't know. |

Its actually Sevco fans who are raging that their team are crap and miles behind Celtic and so can't debate anything as they know they'll get the pish ripped out of them. So have nothing to say.

Again, Hampden. Whereas you got beat off a team with the same and a friendly local bobby. Honestly, mate, if you are older than about 15, god help you. At least Timboy and Celt1987 are clearly adults. Your prattle is so immature its embarrassing. |

Prior to last night’s match with Hapoel Beer Sheva a collective of Celtic fans and Palestinian activists in Glasgow called on fans to show our support for the Palestinian people and fly the flag for Palestine. Like many fans throughout the stadium, the Green Brigade answered this call. Superb statement from the Green Brigade about the fantastic display at Celtic Park last night.
From our work with grassroots Palestinian groups in the West Bank and the refugee camps of Bethlehem, we know the positive impact international solidarity has on those living in the open prisons of the Occupied Territories. We also know that their suffering cannot be ignored by the international community and last night’s actions also sought to raise awareness of the Boycott, Divest, Sanctions (BDS) campaign which seeks to challenge the normalisation of the Israeli occupation. Some have argued that football and politics do not mix, including European football’s discredited governing body. In Palestine, however, there is little dispute. The occupation has seen the Palestinian national stadium destroyed twice by Israeli bombs and footballers killed, maimed and imprisoned. In 2013 we were proud to welcome Mahmoud Sarsak, a Palestinian international footballer detained without crime or trial for three years in an Israeli prison, to Glasgow. Mahmoud had only recently been released from prison after a 96-day hunger strike and widespread international protest. The BDS campaign builds on the success of earlier anti-apartheid campaigns. In the 1980s fans and citizens protested against South African sports teams and ultimately shamed the authorities into excluding apartheid South Africa from sporting activity. The late anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela, whose death was marked by a minute’s silence at European matches on UEFA’s instructions, famously remarked that ‘we know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians’. Mandela was right, and like the wider Celtic support we will continue to fly the flag for Palestine. The response we have had since last night has been overwhelming, with messages of support pouring in from our fellow fans, human rights organisations and the global Palestinian community. We would like to thank them sincerely for their backing and tonight re-iterate our support for justice and freedom in Palestine. We also understand that a downmarket tabloid newspaper may tomorrow run a story suggesting our group in some way mislead Celtic plc and told them that we would not be displaying our support for Palestine. This is a complete fabrication and we condemn anyone who spreads smear stories attacking football fans to The Sun. |

Imagine if the sporting world would have ignored what apartheid south Africa was doing.
Green brigade had some Palestinian flags. Whats the big deal. Dunno why UEFA have an issue with flags being waved. Will they stop barca waving Catalan flags. Ajax have Israeli flags at every home game. It's a piece of cotton for crying out loud. |

Scott Brown has retired from international football.
I guess there will be Celtic fans happy to hear that based on his performances so far this season and Scotland fans happy to hear it based on his previous performances. |

I'm sorry but I'm not impressed by this rubbish, I support a FOOTBALL club, if I wanted to be a political activist I'd support a political party not a football team. Clearly not enough glory hunting in liberal politics for the Green Brigade.
The impact of what happened on Wednesday in the media is far higher that what would have happened if a similar number of people had done the same thing outside of the Israeli embassy. We'll get fined but it is one I'm willing to take. Oh, and there were far more than just the Green Brigade who had Palestine flags on Wednesday night. They were all round the ground. |

Apartheid does not have the ambiguity of the Israeli/Palestine conflict, it was very simple case of 'it's wrong'. They're totally disparate situations really. |
