4-1. Should be signed, sealed and delivered (eventually)

How nice to see see Scotland score 4 and not limp to a narrow win here.

Expect to win games like this in such a manner.

Scotland game tonight isn't everyone excited at best a 1-0 win .

Too many will start who aren't playing club football
At best a 1-0 win.

I know that you are eternally dour when it comes to Scottish football in general and the national team in particular but you got that spectacularly wrong.

We've got a penalty but malta guy never touched him (and he got a red card for it too)
Was Craig Thompson referring?

I will take that - 5 -1 slightly flattered us but in modern International football you will take any away win you get. Also nice to see a few of the attacking players helping themselves to a few goals tonight.

I also see England haven't used up their qualifying luck either .... however it might not be such a bad result for us in the grand scheme of things.

Just been watching the highlights online. Why was Caruana red carded for conceding a penalty?? I was wondering if it was a second yellow or something but when I looked at the match stats, he hadn't even been booked at the time.

Basically the Maltese defender has got a touch on the cross and Martin has then had to adjust his feet and throw himself at the ball - the ref who is not in the position to judge takes Martin's actions as being that of somebody who was tackled from behind ...

The ref has given something based on assumption but the fact that Martin (or any of the other players) were not crying foul play should have told him everything he needed to know.

Hopefully Malta appeal and it is rescinded.

Very harsh I must say. I'm not sure that was even a penalty, never mind a red card offence.

It was a good win but I am not sure how good as I didn't realise how bad Malta were.

Onwards to the Lithuania game who will sit in as well but probably be better at it

That was a side who Italy only beat 1-0 at home in the Euro 16 qualifiers.

I didn't see that game, but it could easily have been all Italy and it was just 'one of those games'. However I did watch the game last night and 5-1 was a hugely flattering result, Malta would have considered last night one of their best chances at 3 points so would have approached the game with a completely different attitude.

Never a 5-1 that. I fear the worst with that defence last night.

Scotland win 5-1 and folk still find a way to underplay it and moan.

Strachan is damned whatever he does, if Scotland beat England at Wembley folk will be trotting out "aye, but Iceland beat them in France".

Is this how bad we've become, we beat Malta and folk are hanging up the bunting in celebration? Gibraltar and Jordan have beaten Malta, it's hardly something to start comparing us to Italy scraping past them.

I'll take a 5-1 win over a 1-0 win scrape everytime.

Nobody should get over excited over the win while at the same time there is nothing to be disappointed with either.

Italy actually qualified for the tournament. Their 1-0 win was worth the same amount of points as our 5-1 win. Scotland will lose to England twice and end up making an arse of it in Lithuania or Slovenia, it's what they do.

Slovakia, Slovenia and Lithuania are the teams you need maximum points from - all of whom have dropped points already.

The England games will look after themselves.

Irn Bru Cup Draw

Bala v Alloa
Forfar v TNS
Crusaders v Livi
QOTS v Linfield
Hibs v St Mirren
Dunfermline v Queens Park
Ayr v Falkirk
Stranraer v Dundee United

Will be interesting to see how the cross border match ups finish but tie of the round is obviously Hibs v St Mirren.

I'll watch what I like. Scotland will get turned over in some Eastern European capital and Strachan will play Fletcher up top and bemoan no luck or some other crap because he's a dud.

QOTS vs Linfield should be a good game.
