It should probably be noted that in the revamped Champions League, Celtic's coefficient will be boosted thanks to their European Cup win in 1967.

Roxburgh's comments on Costa Rica were shocking. This is your first opponent at a World Cup Finals and they did no preparation at all. Just expected to turn up and win easy.

They'll probably release a DVD of the revamp ceremony in a snazzy pink box to pay homage to the ticket stubs of something that happened almost 50 years ago. They are as bad as England and their 1966 chat and about as useful as them in the respective cups.

What are you talking about? He said Costa Rica had been hidden due to them training so much and it was difficult to know what they would face. What's he supposed to do, magic himself into their training camp? Roxburgh and Brown actually got Scotland to tournaments, the clown today couldn't qualify us for a gigantic Euros that even Northern Ireland and Iceland got to.
Did Walter Smith or Alex McLeish take Scotland to a major tournament? |

Lets see you talk to people and get reports on players playing for there club sides. Costa Rica would of known what about Scotland? To excuse the defeat to Costa Rica because they had locked themselves away for 6 months and Roxburgh hadn't had a chance to see them is desperate.
Did Walter Smith or Alex McLeish take Scotland to a major tournament? Smith and McLeish took us close, but the players and recent managers aren't good enough. International football means nothing anyway. A distraction from the real business of club football. |

Walter Smith was too busy being a traitor and leaving Scotland in the lurch in the middle of a qualifying campaign to get them to a major tournament.

You are talking absolute nonsense, he didn't know what they were facing as the opposition were locked away for 6 months and finding out about what Costa Rica were doing in 1990 was hardly like going on the internet and typing it into Google. What was he going to do dress up as a Costa Rican and infiltrate their training camp? Roxburgh's ways got Scotland to the tournament and the last win at a world cup, now we can't even qualify never mind win a group game.
Smith and McLeish took us close, but the players and recent managers aren't good enough. International football means nothing anyway. A distraction from the real business of club football. For someone who thinks International Football doesn't mean anything you seem to care an awful lot about Strachan & Scotland. |

Yet he still used is as an excuse rather than just say Scotland were poor on the day. As I said if one wants to use such an argument then what would Costa Rica known of Scotland? Nothing at all yet the minnows won. It was a terrible result and if Scotland had performed like they did v Sweden in Game 2 they would of beaten Costa Rica no problem.
A bit like the SFA preparing for the World Cup in 1954. They sent over a delegation in the Swiss winter for a recce and they didn't realise it how hot it would be so got the shirt manufacturer to make shirts that were more suited to the winter. That was also the World Cup that Rangers refused to release their players as they were on tour in America and the SFA only took 13 players to the tournament. |

World cups from 1954?! 62 years ago, a time when your dad would have been in nappies? What next, Ally's Army song shouldn't have been allowed as it got us all to believe in something that was never going to happen?

Rangers Chelsea Man Utd Liverpool Everton Borussia Dortmund Bayern Munich Are you serious? How much do you know about Deportivo Saprissa? C.S. Herediano? You probably couldn't point out Costa Rica on a map, and you expect Roxburgh to know all about them in 1990?! |

Again what do you say "knew nothing about Iran". It's a lame excuse. The fact Scotland had seasoned pros playing in Europe only emphasises the point that Roxburgh failed to get this players to beat a bunch of players from a place he knew nothing about. |

This thread used to be as dull as dishwater, at least it's thriving now, You even have a sudden covert from Liverpool. Must be a dedicated follower of Brendan.....
Shame the game clashes with the Manchester derby. I can't imagine Sky are too happy about that. No room for manoeuvre with the CL coming up. So, question for the Celtic fans, be honest, surely you must be happy having this game back. Rivalry, though it sometimes goes a bit too far, is what makes football. Sterile football is dull. I go on another forum and most Celtic fans are happy it's back but fans of other clubs aren't. No love at all for either team. Sometimes you expect fireworks in a game and it doesn't happen. Brown and Barton might be nice to each other. |

We really do need it back. It hasn't been the same without it. I've missed not being able to sleep the night before because of the nerves and wondering how the team is going to line up. We really do need to embrace it and welcome it back. Thank goodness for the Champions League. |

This is just a league game against a team we share a city with. I don't lose sleep over Partick Thistle and I definitely won't over the tribute act. |

Secondly didn't the UEFA qualification end before CONCACAF? No excuse at all for lack of preparation. Roxburgh should have been honest and said that they treated Costa Rica as a joke team so thought all they had to do was turn up. |

I don't get it either. You can add Barcelona, PSG, and any team that 'Pep' is managing, at any given time.
