That's not true. There are many reasons why smaller clubs have a bigger cup final support. Partly it's cost, part of it may be those who can't attend on a regular basis because of work, we also of many people who travel from abroad for games.

Never understood why people have a go at smaller clubs for this, it's not like they're turning fans away.

It is patently true.

What is your average home attendance this season?

What is your average away attendance this season?

How many did you take to the semi final?

How many did you take to the cup final?

The number of Dundee United supporters at the cup final today was superb but you have many fans who only ever turn up for cup finals. It is the same with the likes of Aberdeen as well. It is just gloryhunting.

Well can I just say well done to St Johnstone - I believe they fully deserved their victory on the day - no doubt united fans will think differently but to the neutral they seemed like the team who had the far better chances.

Can I just say as a Rangers fan (and somebody who has seen it all over recent years) I thoroughly enjoyed that game and would commend both teams for their conviction to the cause - this was a blood and thunder encounter (no more - no less) and the English cup final that followed looked quite tame to my eyes - and to think neither side of the old firm were quoted ....

All clubs have them it's just more noticeable when you start with a smaller base and the glories are less frequent.

So you agreeing with my initial point that you have a high percentage of fans who only turn up for cup finals then?

I agree with you but i dont think its glory hunting. Ive been a United fan for 30 years. If im anywhere near Dundee i'll try and catch a game but the reality is it just doesnt happen that often and im happy to admit i'm more likely to make the effort for a game that means something or a cup final. I dont feel like a glory hunter because to be honest there isnt really that much glory!!!

I love Dundee United and Man Utd and have done since i was a wee kid but life gets in the way a bit when it comes to being a football fan and you live on a small island!

I do think that Dundee United should never have any less than 10000 for every home game. I was one of the 30000 yesterday. I go when I can but sometimes work and other commitments stops me going me than I would like to

You can make up as many excuses as you like but it is a clear open and shut case of gloryhunting. It's ironic that the smaller clubs in Scotland and England accuse the big clubs of having gloryhunting fans yet come cup final time they are the biggest gloryhunters of the lot.

People don't support clubs like Dundee United for the glory (trust me), bigger clubs have fans who supported them to see league and cup wins.

No, Tannadice is magic and those extra 20,000 are really there every week.

On a more serious point, it should be noted United fans raised money for poorer fans to go, you gotta think that is a big reason putting a lot of people off regular football. Bigger clubs loose those people but have the fanbase to replace them, we don't.

I don't think the cost has a effect. If Dundee Utd made it £5 per game, the stadium still wouldn't be filled. I think some people just can't be bothered going. Cup finals always attract fans who wouldn't normally go to a game. Celtic hsve tried to get more fans in with kids going for £5 but it still doesn't have a effect. Also, a lot of people would rather watch English football on Sky then go to a game.

Precisely, I can't abide much of these holier than thou 'glory hunting' accusations that some regular attendees come out with.

Folk make their choices based on priorities such as convenience and what else is going on in their lives.

Most regular supporters attend anyway, because they simply want to and enjoy going on a regular basis. Don't let's have nonsense like it's generally their personal sacrifice for the good of their clubs. It is more simply their personal preference, even if that involves say much travel or costs a big % of their income.

If other not so 'committed' supporters prefer normally to play golf on a Saturday or whatever that is their choice, they may be really keen on golf and want to improve their handicap and / or keep up a regular partnership. And you can replace golf with numerous other leisure and general life choices.

But come such as a cup final, of course many such folk will want to see their team, and can put off golf or whatever that week. I am sure the clubs appreciate that support ( and can understand why most cannot or choose not to go on a weekly basis, even if clearly they'ed prefer that more did ).

Not that anyone has to justify or explain, but I am a St Mirren supporter living in Edinburgh. I tend to go to a few matches a season. For quite some time I used to tend to work Saturday till about at least 1 pm - problemo. Nowadays, generally I can't be arsed to make the effort ( no doubt I would more if I lived closer ) and generally taking everything into consideration prefer to do something else like get up on the Pentland Hills on a decent day or even watch sport on TV - eg. I am a big tennis fan and would watch a GB Davis Cup tie before going to watch a normal St Mirren league match. Plenty folk have other sporting commitments including actually playing other sports.

Sorry ( well, I'm not really ), but folk are allowed to have their different priorities. But St Mitten cup final ( and they don't come around too often ) and too right I'm there, unashamedly so.

So enough of this 'glory hunting' stuff used as some rebuke / insult. It is great for Celtic and Rangers ( or should be, but one at least can still **** up ), that they have such traditionally big support. But they will also have many times that less committed support, who would choose just to attend more important matches, though no doubt more difficult for themticketwise.

Nothing really exciting but on the subject of fans, ticket prices etc: I was listening to absolute radio in work last week and they were praising Albion Rovers for their new 'pay what you like' season ticket scheme.

I genuinely think ALL Scottish clubs should cut prices, bigger crowds surely looks better and a larger crowd with cheaper tickets will probably make more profit, with more food, programmes, merchandise purchased.

Hibs £10/£5 for Play-off.

That's a great fact! Incredible when you consider Dundee Utd average attendance and Arsenals, plus Arsenal were playing in London and hadn't won a trophy since 2005.

It's also a rather meaningless ( even if quite fun ) fact, certainly a meaningless comparison, other than, of course, it was a great attendance from Dundee United.

Arsenal and Hull had their share capped at I believe something like 25,000 each, to allow for the 'football family', Wembley debenture holders, etc.

Arsenal, who had over 40,000 at their semi final, were particularly unhappy about this.

Perhaps 'big game hunters' would have been a fairer term to use than 'glory hunters'. C7/Indi, I'm not trying to have a go at you 2 by quoting you btw.

As Indi rightly said people have lots of other things going in their lives and football isn't always going to be the number 1 priority and that is fair enough. It is just funny when folk ask who you support and tell you that you are a glory hunter because you support a team that is successful when the team they support suddenly takes 4 or 5 times their average crowd to a cup final then the extra fans melt away like an ice cream in the Sahara desert under the midday sun.

Maybe the United end that day was close to a sell out but the ground was 20% away from capacity. Anyway, using a game that was a tribute to Eddie Thomson as an example isn't exactly like comparing like with like.
