No wonder Lennon walked away, that was an Artmedia type result. 4-1 with 2 missed penalties and it could have been more. To think people make an argument that Celtic deserve a place automatically in the champions league. Can you imagine that Celtic team with that manager and Charlie Mulgrew up against Real Madrid?

Champions shouldn't have to play 3 rounds to get to the group stage where teams that finish 3rd/4th in other countries can expect to play no more than 1 round. |

The Scottish league coefficient is behind:
Spain England Germany Portugal Italy France Russia Ukraine Netherlands Belgium Switzerland Turkey Greece Czech Republic Austria Romania Israel Cyprus Denmark Poland Croatia Belarus That dismal performance last night just tells you that the Scottish champions don't deserve anywhere near an automatic spot. Everton, Spurs or Sevilla would rip Celtic apart and deserve a crack at it ahead of the champions of a very poor league. |

The blame lies with the celtic board. Years of under investment in the team will eventually come back to bite. Lennon was doing a good job, getting celtic into the Champions league.
Hopefully this result will make the board realise that the club needs to start spending some serious money on better players. if not then it will be the same next year. |

Most of the Europe's leagues don't have all of their clubs guranteed to play in European club competition in September nowadays. But Celtic ought to enter the competition at a later stage than the 3rd or 4th placed teams of some countries even if they don't automatically qualify for the 6 champions league group games.
Celtic catapulting from having to play 4 x 2 leg ties to qualify for the 6 champions league group games and then make the last 16 of the champions league is a tall order. Such a feat (even starting off having to play 3 x 2 leg pre qualifying rounds) has never happened before and is a most unlikely feat. |

The hilarious thing is people were mentioning David Moyes for the job before Ronny Deila, the Poundland option, came in. The Polish team should have done a Germany vs Brazil and won comfortably 7-1. How Efe Ambrose earns a living as a footballer I don't know.

An utter shambles last night but lawell and the board are the main culprits. The continued downsizing at Celtic has been disgusting. The refusal to spend any money on players while the better players leave only results in a poor side.
Spending little amounts trying to find another wanyanma is ridiculous. The plan of buying cheap and selling for a lot more is fine and FC Porto work under the same conditions. The difference is Porto will spend £6 mil on a player and then sell for £30 mil. They buy a quality player in the first instance rather than trying to go as cheap as possible.. Last year was a struggle in the qualifiers and the warning signs were there but lawell seems to have taken for granted CL qualification. |

It's early days but I think there could be a Paul le guen type experience on the way for Ronnie deliah.
I suspect someone celtic minded will be found by Xmas , although the squad he has been left with looks pretty poor |

Not a good few days for Scottish teams in Europe. Celtic were thrashed, Aberdeen lose 2-0 and St Johnstone lose 2-1 at home.

So celtic in the Europa league play offs is all we will have left.
It's a vicious circle for scots team in Europe until others as well as Celtic make regularly trips beyond the prelims the co-efficient will continue to fall. Celtic don't deserve a place beyond where they come in, the system is fair |

Teams that finish 3rd or 4th in certain leagues bring far more to the Champions League than the Champions of certain other countries. That's it in a nutshell.

Thank goodness The Rangers are there to improve the co efficient.
They haven't had to play 4 qualifying rounds. I could mention that Christiano Ronaldo would sign for the Zombies, it wouldn't mean that it has any possibility of happening. I suspect you will be wrong. Charity bet? In that case we should just let the richest teams take part and none f the other sides should bother. Still, we have the massive Petrofac Training Cup matching involving The Rangers to look forward to. That'll make all the difference. |
