How can it raise awareness when most people haven't a clue what the hell it's about
Exactly the point of my blog post on the subject! Which got me hate mail. Oh well.

And the important thing is to keep the boys guessing... Because men don't get breast cancer or spot symptoms in girlfriends or anything... Idiots!

How does posting something silly like that raise awareness for breast cancer?

Desperately trying to convince themselves they made the right decision to marry the bloke and have a child with him?

One of my fb friends is going through depression right now, I'm suffering with postnatal depression so I'm in no way belittling this horrible illness but she isn't half using it for attention.

She posts random song lyrics which sound so depressing and if people don't know the song then it makes her sound practically suisidal.

She'll tag herself at the hospital a lot, obviously with no explanation.
The last hospital tag came with "here again, on my own "

She only got 2 people asking her why and then she updated her status to "So sorry for worrying everyone, i went to the hospital for my physio appointment".

Its just constant, every status is either about needing a girls night out because she's depressed, or about counselling appointments or tagging at hospitals.
That 'so sorry..........physio appointment' actually makes me angry
Although it should just make me laugh, the fact only TWO people asked why!

It only raises awareness of Facebook attention-seeking!

Thank god for this thread, I had been scratching my head seeing the '0 and proud' posts and the random 'banana' or 'cherry' posts.

Have to say, generally speaking people aren't being too bad at the moment although this guy on my friends list is a bit annoying. He was nominated for that original profile picture thing and posted an essay along with said picture about how his friend who nominated him was 'mischievious' and described it as 'My first snap shot from back in the day in 2010 when I first discovered the marvels of social media!' And essentially every status he puts up has about 40 smiley faces or reads like something a PR company would write like 'Did anyone watch the NYE Top Of The Pops Special yesterday? With the likes of Clean Bandit, Jess Glynne, George Ezra, Arianna Grande and La Roux all performing!'

Maybe I'm just miserable but I can't deal with that much positivity

It's not specifically a status update, but girls/women that take those selfies of themselves pouting and put them as their profile picture are annoying. What's with all the pouting?! Just seems a bit vain? (By the way I am a female and I rarely put pictures of myself on Facebook)

I see some of you talking about a number and proud.

It's the number of tattoos you have.

It allegedly raises breast cancer awareness.

My mum and sister sent it to me. They were speedily reminded of a blog post I wrote about it last year. Breast cancer is not an attention seeking status update.
How does that raise breast cancer awareness in any way? Literally the only connection I can make is, we have bodies that include breast tissue, some of us have tatoos on our body. Silly stuff!

To be honest, at first I thought it might have been number of sexual partners too, but then I saw the local bike say "1 and proud" and knew it couldn't have been that.

If somebody updates their status and uploads photographs at least 8 seperate times in one hour, on a night out ...

Is that an indication that they are having a good, fun night, or a shit one?

To me, it would have seemed the latter, but it seems that times have changed now.

This number thing of "4 and proud" has made its way onto my timeline. My only initial thought was that it was the number of sexual partners people have had.

Of course that guess could be completely inappropriate if people have had under 16s post it on their TL but I'm flabbergasted about what else it could be!

I'm sure in Part 1 of this thread someone said that the majority of these pictures are staged and everyone is having a horrible time.

This is the message I got sent the other day which explains about it.
Hello girls! Like every year ,we are mobilizing against breast cancer. Here is the game this year : It is proposed that GIRLS do something to educate everyone facing breast cancer. It's easy and I would like you all to participate !!! a few years ago we had to write on our wall our bra colour . The men were questioning for days They wondered why girls had written on their wall colours . This year it is related to the number of tattoos you have. Do not reply to this message ... Write only the word that applies to you on your wall and send this message privately to all your GIRLS !!! It also requires that you add the words " ... and I 'm proud ! " Before the actual number. EXAMPLE: 2 and I am proud ! 7 and I'm proud ! 0 and I'm proud ! The game of the bra was up on television, trying to do the same with this , send this message privately to your contacts GIRLS , do " copy" on the message , select " New Message" and then "paste" ** If you please, do not reply to this message , simply do !! GO !! We want to see a maximum of statutes.

Who's responsible for these crazy breast cancer trends? Is there a site or does it come from the same individual on facebook each year?

Facebook statuses that are just

""

Or ""

Vague book.com

Also I seen a girl post a VERY heavily photoshopped selfie with her hand at her face like she was on some sort of photoshoot and the caption was "Make up mish comple! Time for hair mish #animeeyes"
It's so heavily filtered black and white you so can't see her make up...of course I'd got fourteen likes from men and about twenty comments from her friends "U luk stunnin hon"

The App - if that is the word - of the week seems to be "IQ tests". "I've tested my IQ and it came out as 175!" It always seems to be bizarrely high, and without meaning to be unkind, I always think, no, it really, really isn't.

More annoying is someone I see on facebook who has a long - indeed apparentlyl eternal - history of vague physical symptoms, all of which require intense treatment with a long list of herbal products and alternative healers. Only I have a couple of facebook friends who are quite ill - one of them has bone cancer - and every time they put a mild status about having a rough day today, miss oil-of-newt is there to say how much more she suffers than they do, and how they must, absolutely must, try ocelots' testicles or something flakey. If they dare to sound unwell again, she gets properly peeved that they don't seem to have obeyed her command.

I agree.

Every year, someone comes up with one of these ideas which are supposedly to raise breast cancer awareness. Firstly, it's not raising awareness if no-one who sees it knows what its all about. Secondly, I'm pretty sure that most people are already aware about breast cancer.

I don't like the idea of people posting it and then giving themselves a pat on the back because they think they've done something to raise awareness.
