But do you post it on Facebook to get likes from your friends or 'aww sorry Hun xxx' replies?

My dad died suddenly from a heart attack 13 years ago, I never forget it's impossible as I was there when it happened, but I keep that offline
Yes, my dad died suddenly too. It's **** all to do with Facebook. And all the people at work who need to take time off on the anniversary of their parent dying and the anniversary of their birthday ffs.
Also, all the shite that people post to dead people who are not going to read it

I've now been off FB for two whole weeks and I feel fabulous. No more looking at inane status updates, reading 'inspirational' bollocks or the endless faux messages of support of certain needy friends every time they have one of their self-induced crises.

Interestingly, none of my so-called friends appears to have noticed I'm not on there any more. They're too busy being self-obsessed.
But you could just either un-friend or un-follow if you don't want to remove them completely, get rid of the ones that post crap and then you have a Facebook full of decent things.

I've got a fair bit of crap on mine but it actually amuses me and I like to post sarcastic comments and replies every so often. If it actually annoys you do something about it, quitting Facebook just seems really OTT.

My FB wall has cool memes, interesting links, funny and informative videos, updates on my best friends trip to Sri Lanka, all sorts of good stuff.
My Instagram feed has wicked photos from people I follow.

If people post bilge on FB or IG, I delete or unfollow them. The reason your FB or IG is being cluttered up by garbage is because you let it. That's your fault, not theirs.
This is exactly right. I'm not bothered about seeing all the stupid crap, it amuses me more than annoys and as I said above I like to post the occasional sarcastic comments. If anyone gets too much though they just get deleted or unfollowed.

Problem is that if I unfollow/unfriend the ones who annoy me, I'd end up with about 2 people left. I just don't get anything out of FB. I have about 60 'friends' and of those I'd say 50 are people that have friended me but who I haven't seen or spoken to in years in real life and who I don't interact with at all (or them with me) on FB. Of the remaining 10, maybe 2 of them are worth staying on FB for and I see and speak to them in real life anyway. Good for you if it amuses you, but I just get irritated, so it's best to just not be on there. Or find some new friends

So none of your real life friends are on? Out of all my friends there's only about 2 that I can think of that aren't on Facebook. These all generally post decent stuff and it's nice to see what they're up to etc. The ones who post crap are usually work/ex work colleagues or random acquaintances.

Fair enough though if you'd end up with no friends on there, I can see why you'd delete it if all you ever see is crap!

I have a friend who is constantly posting about the Kardashians and Kanye West, and what a waste of space they are. She'll post this stuff with comments like "oh my god, message to Kim and Kanye: nobody cares". I'm not a fan of the Kardashians or Kanye West, but I don't feel the need to express that fact all the time. I just try to ignore them. Posting about how much you don't care doesn't seem to make much sense to me.

There was one story I read where a lad was getting text messages off his girlfriend who had earlier died in a car crash, which seemed impossible since her phone had been obliterated in the crash and they were coming from that sim card and seemingly made sense to him. Suppose the same could happen on Facebook?

The female friend from school has now got engaged to her latest long term feller on her birthday.

Happy for her obviously.
She sounds like the female version of someone on my page who always has a new girlfriend every week.

Yesterday he updated his status to 'in a relationship' again and people were posting things like 'again?' I give this new relationship two weeks.

To be fair, she's been with this one at least 3 years, but she knew him years ago.

From what I know, this is the 5th guy she's been with since she left school in 87, they may have been more, I don't know or frankly care.

I'm just happy she's sorted herself out finally.

Yeah noticed people were doing it on mine as well. I asked someone and they didn't even really know why they were doing it.

Instead of those be like bill memes now. People are using their real names.

This is Sarah
Sarah is ill but Sarah doesn't need to plaster how illl she is over Facebook to get sympathy.
Be like Sarah.

Um isn't that exactly what you just did?

I've noticed recently that my friends rarely update Facebook with anything of their own so my feed is full of photos and stuff from people I don't know, that these friends have liked. If I were to unfollow everyone who has liked something someone I don't know has out on, my news feed would be empty! I scroll down my news feed and see photos of absolute strangers and what's even worse now is my feed is cluttered with people I don't knows baby photos!

I'm reluctant to post stuff on Facebook now, knowing that my life could be plastered all over some strangers news feed just because my friend has liked or commented on it. I think I need to have a bit of an unfollowing spree, which is sad because I like these people and am genuinely interested in their lives, I just don't give a stuff that they liked a kitten photo posted by a random stranger!

There is actually one person on Facebook who is a friend of a friend- I've never met her but because my friend comments on everything she puts on, I know her life pretty much inside out, and I might as well be her friend too!

I feel like commenting "I know you like it - thats why you posted it". It irks me. Greatly.

That's from Reddit - a very spooky read!

A good friend of mine announced his cancer with a Facebook status. He has a lot of real life friends though, so it was probably the best way of letting people know.

Someone I once worked with once posted an update, supposedly written by her husband, asking people to pray for her because she was critically ill in intensive care.

Except she wasn't, because I bumped into her husband an hour or so later, buying wine in Sainsburys.
I went over to him, to offer my support, ask how she was and did she need anything taking in, like toiletries or nightclothes, and to offer to help out with the kids/dog etc.
He looked at me like I was crazy, and told me his wife was at home, watching netflix, and didn't even have a cold.

I deleted her off facebook after that little stunt, and to this day, I have no idea what she was hoping to achieve .

That is horrible! There is attention seeking, but that is a whole new level!

The ones who get me are those who post that they're going away and en proceed to post photos from holiday. They may say "it's okay, my settings are private so only friends can see it, so I won't get burgled". But how well do you know these friends? I've got lots of friends on Facebook whom I've known for years through various forums and they're lovely, but I don't KNOW them. I would never post about going away on Facebook until I've returned. Maybe I'm paranoid but still, better safe than sorry.

These 'be like' and 'don't be like' statuses are getting really tedious now.
