I have two friends who were an on/off couple for about four years. They split a few months ago and both jumped straight into new relationships. Ever since then theyve been trying to out do each other on facebook. Today being valentines day has been the ultimate battle.

The girl posted a picture of her flowers to show that the bouquet is absolutely huge! Shes written how shes looking forward to a romantic weekend away with her boyfriend and how hes the best in the world and shes not used to being treated like a princess etc.

Almost immediately the bloke put a picture of him and his new gf surrounded by the nik naks hes got her with a comment of how he saved the best until last, revealing that he has booked a week away in paris! Hes saying how hes so lucky after all the bad partners hes had to meet someone so perfect.

Its so ridiculous its silly. They are only doing it to try and make the other jealous as they never posted stuff like this when they were a couple. I thought people grew out of that in their teens but these are mid twenties and still competing.

Poor girl. A whole week? Christ, they'll be bored after a day or so.

Not sure why so many people think Paris is lovers heaven. Got to be the most misplaced stereotype in Europe. I'd much rather take my partner somewhere quieter, cheaper and with more interesting things to do.

To be honest my feed hasn't been as bad today as I thought it'd be. One girl keeps posting pointless "#I #love #my #boyfriend #so #much #5 #years #together ########" status updates. No one seems to be paying much attention, thank God.

I've just seen a picture someone posted of 10 valentines cards, titles included: to my son, to my grandson, to my mummy, to my daddy, to my daughter, to my granddaughter along with the boyfriend/girlfriend ones.

Really? This is a thing? You can buy cards for any family member now?!

Perhaps they can't work out which hashtag to follow

Interestingly the last two GF's when offered the choice of where to go for a city break with me both chose Rome

I'm so torn between hating people putting their personal lives all over FB, and loving it because I am a nosey cow and the drama is often better than the soaps

It isn't a thing that normal people would do, no. It's quite creepy actually.

However, all it takes is one card manufacturer to think "sod it, lets do a card for families to give to one another" and they all follow.

I have seen these kinds of cards in shops and did wonder when things got hat pathetic. Then a few weeks later I saw "Happy St Patrick's day" cards...is that a thing too?

People will literally buy any old crap if they think they have to.

One of my friends has received a message on her wall, from her adult son "Happy Valentines day Mother, love you"
And she's replied "Love you too son".

That's just weird isn't it?

How do you know it was recently stubbed out? Anyhoo, as a recent ex-smoker I definitely smoked in the kitchen while preparing food and none of it ever tasted like fags or ash.
Not to you perhaps but I reckon definitely to non smokers

It is weird... Valentines day is not about the love between yourself and your kids... It's just plain odd!

The only person I'd get a Valentines card/present for other than my partner, would be my best friend of 20+ years. I don't love her in 'that' way, but I do bloody love her, she is a massive part of my life. I don't find that too weird, but I can concede that some people will think it odd..

Not too many Valentine's Day messages on my wall today. Some posts asking if Royal Mail are having delivery problems.

Worst post today was from an old school friend annoucing the birth of his second child and that pictures will follow soon. Fortunately, I no longer see his photos after the birth of his first kid and all the photos that followed.

"Just watched the flora advert with the parents "wresting" and *son* turned to dad and said, thats what we do isnt it, we wrestle. Talk anout cringe".

I would be more bothered about the fact that her son is calling her latest bloke dad more worrying than anything else. Theyve been together barely a month! Before him he was calling her ex dad as well and he wasnt either.

How hilariously tragic. Unbelievable that they are in their twenties! I still wish I was friends with them on Facebook though

Me too! I have one friend in particular. She moved to America and she's pure white trash now. She was with some guy for a month, got knocked up, married him, split with him, had all the drama over court and maintenance with him, and now she's getting married to his ex best friend and has just had a new baby with him. Her wedding's coming up and I expect it to be epic. The last one, she wore a normal dress and he wore a t-shirt and jeans, everyone was wearing denim in the wedding photos and it appeared to be a BBQ in a barn.

You think thats bad?

My parents were friends with a couple who were in a serious relationship for a few years. When they split all hell broke loose on facebook! They both got into new relationships but couldnt help but slag each other off. He would put a status about how his new gf was so much better than his old one and she would retaliate. This was a few years ago so i cant remember anything specific but it did get very personal.

The funny thing was that they blocked each other so couldnt access each others facebooks, but they both knew exactly what the other was saying in order to write not so cryptic messages about each other. So neither of them twigged that they must have a mutual friend who was telling them what the other was saying! This went on for years and neither of them could move on with their new happy lives without having someone relay to the ex how happy they were. Every aspect of their lives was told to the other one. Eg the woman would make sure the man knew that she was off on a romantic holiday to spain with her new bloke. The man would then make a comment about how cheap and tacky spain is etc. not naming each other but everyone knew what was going on.

The sad thing? She was 39 when they split and he was mid 40s!

So that's what it looks like if someone drops an electrical appliance into your bath whilst you're posting on your phone.

I got sent a happy Thanksgiving card once, from a relative in the USA. Thing is, this person is well educated, or at least I thought they were...at least enough to know Thanksgiving is not something marked outside America.

Also seen a rise in Easter Cards which I never understood either. Anyone close enough to me to send a card knows I'm not in the slightest bit interested in Christianity, especially Easter. I don't even buy an egg, so don't really care to receive a card with a picture of Jesus on it. They usually go straight in the bin.

She says she's given up dating. We'll see how long that lasts!

I must stop reading her updates! I'm such a cyber stalker.
