What your cat does for you
goldberry1

I sometimes meet people who don't have a high opinion of cats - they say they're cruel, flea bitten and are not useful or important.-

Here is a list of what my cat does for me:

He provides friendship and companionship
He's something warm and cuddly especially on cold winter evenings
He's always glad to see me and doesn't care how I look.
He makes me laugh with the things he does and cheers me up - he's like a slap stick straight faced comedian like Buster Keaton sometimes
He's cute and cheeky too - for instance if I'm eating anything tasty he thinks he might like he taps me on the leg and gives me 'the eye'
He is my chief pest control officer and takes care of all the creepy crawlies I can't abide
He is a 'clerk of works' or a 'foreman' and likes to see what you're doing and supervise eg if you're sorting stuff out etc or gardening.
He alerts me to something different - maybe there is someone at the door I haven't heard - I'm sure if there was a fire or smoke he'd wake me before the detectors did.
He's friendly and likes most other cats and humans.

I can't imagine life without him!

One of them sits by my bed at about 10 to 6 in the morning, and kindly wakes me up doing her cute little "mow mow" (she's tiny and has never miaowed like a big cat) to tell me she's hungry

The other one is much more direct and just jumps on my head!

As my fridge magnet says, there is no snooze button on a cat who wants breakfast

Chief whiner
Chief coat shedder
Chief waker-upper
Chief fatty
Chief scratcher
Chief biter
Chief scaredy-cat
Chief tripper-upper
Chief live mouse/rat dropper (I am the chief catcher!)

Chief little furry mate who I wouldn't be without for all the world. She makes me laugh so much sometimes.

Not much anymore cause he is very old (19) so spends 90% of his time asleep, the other 10% is spent crying for food

Even the birds are not scared of him anymore.

Really 19! - that's very old for a cat - I had 2 female cats who reached 16 before they died - thought they were old. He must be well looked after bless him....aww...

My cat [see http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...27104538.jpg/] has now had her 23rd birthday and she's still going although she is a bit hard of hearing now. She still loves her Dreamie and ice cream treats.

Aaahh - what's her name - she is a very old lady, amazing! She has just about the same markings as my cat - hope he lives as long!

I have a medical condition which means I often end up sat on the loo in the middle of the night for 10-15 minutes (like I was just before I wrote this)

My boy cat Dave comes and sits with me in the bathroom on a pile of towels, so I'm not on my own, as if to say "it's ok Mum, i'm here, you aren't alone"

Melts my heart. He's always fast asleep, but comes to find me and doesn't leave til I do

His hearing is going and he seems to forget that he has eaten so I hold a little back and just give him more when after a few minutes he is crying for more food. Otherwise if he eats to much he is sick.

In every other way he is really well, his coat gleams in the sun. He gets spoilt now, freshly cooked fish, chicken and tuna. Cat food every meal can make him sick so have to be careful.

Can't even think of a time when he is not here.

Bops you around the head when you don't notice him.
Runs of with your ps3 headset.
Keeps your feet warm by lying on them.
Washes you even though you just had a bath.
Demands feeding at all times of the day.
Moans at you for no reason.

This thread makes me miss my Jess (RIP)

So many things in the replies remind me of her

Scratches at the door as soon as I sink into a nice relaxing bath.
Sabotages bed making.
Ties himself round my ankles at the top of the stairs.
Sits on the bed and frowns his disapproval at me as I get ready for work in the morning.
Sharpens his claws on the backs of the dining chairs.
Lolls half on the sofa, half on my lap, and every so often looks up at me and 'smiles' as if to say "This is the best!". And do you know? He's right.

This made me laugh, its so true. I never realised how easy and quick it is to change the sheets and duvet. Much rather have my furry mate back though, supervising me.

My Amber acts as:

Back up alarm clock
Laundry basket and airing cupboard arranger
Overseer to make sure I'm opening cans correctly
Shopping checker - climbs into my carrier bags when I get in
Bookshelf disturber
Wardrobe intruder - always tries to open the doors very noisily and only in the middle of the night!
Comforter - when I'm upset
Window ornament
Clown/jester - really makes me laugh when she has her mad 5 minutes galloping round the place
