O2 are to launch their 3G service on 1st of Feb 2005. Initially it will ony be available to Contract customers but Pay As You Go should be available soon. The new 3G services will be priced at identical rates as existing GPRS (2.5G) tariffs.

I have tried looking at the o2 web site and I can not find any information about their tariffs.

Go to http://www.o2.co.uk and click where it says tariffs on the menu on the left side of the screen.

O2. 3G?

I can't believe they're launching 3G services!

They need to sort out their normal service first!

Sorry if this sounds really dumb, but any idea if this affects people on the '3' network? I mean, when you're out of a 3 area it switches onto O2. So, if you are in an O2 3G area, will 3 phones pick that up or stick to the 2/2.5G signal?

That's a an interesting question, although one thing to consider is that I think O2s 3G service has less coverage than Threes service so I can't imagine there'd be many (if any) places where you can get O2 3G and not Three.

It has no effect.

Three has its own network, and outside of this, you 'roam' onto the O2 2.5G network. You do not roam onto the o2 3G Network (no roaming agreement exists for Three onto o2's 3G Network).

That's pretty much what I thought it'd be. And hadn't thought about the fact O2s 3G network isn't going to be as widespread either.
Thanks guys
